    This is FREAKING BRILLIANT. I'm gonna use it in my personal and professional (freelance) life. And for one of my clients, I'm gonna do the same in google drive: use a single sheet to keep track of all 30+ team projects and refer to individual project folders with a link. BRILLIANT.

    Thank you Carl. I use almost the same system, with some GTD thrown in. My area of focus and resources can be in various notebooks and are identified with tags. I am a great believer in and use of tags. The management of tasks also lives in Evernote, and heavily using tagging, saved searches and the shortcuts in Evernote. This, together with Google Calendar and Google Drive, is how I do projects. Linking between notes en between the Google Ecosystem is essential for me and allows me to (re)view on every device I use (Android phone, iPad and Linux Computer using Chromium).
    Oh, and checkboxes. Can’t do without checkboxes. I love the sound of clicking of checkboxes in the morning 😂

    Carl, I have to tell you that this video left me kind of cold. I was wondering about how you connect projects in Evernote to Tasks in Todoist. THEN, I watched your video from a few days prior on how you process (and use) your Todoist Inbox and it all came clear to me. Excellent! And folks really do need to watch both videos.

    Thank you Carl, Do you save all the information in a single note? Where do you put emails or meeting notes that belong to a project?

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  3 роки тому +2

      That depends. If the email contains a lot of information, then I. would add that to the project notebook. But mostly I just copy/paste any relevant information into the main project note.

    • @NicoVeenkamp
      @NicoVeenkamp 3 роки тому

      There is a nifty Evernote extension for GMail. I use this to save relevant emails directly into Evernote. In my system I use tags to reference the relevant task/tasks that this email is associated with and relevant additional tags, such as project. When the project is finished i only change the ProjectName tag to the ProjectNameArchive. I almost never delete notes in Evernote.

    Carl - A very helpful video for sure. How would you apply this if you have multiple areas to manage. I have a day job, a part-time business and a personal life that all have these needs. Do you split them or merge them all together?

    • @Carl_Pullein

      For me all projects are equal. Trying to segment them between business and personal only adds complexity. So, I keep all project plans together in the same project stack in Evernote.

    Thank you for this video!!! I have used Evernote for a while now, but not as well as I could be. I am loving the new look and features and believe this is just what I needed to pull my project thoughts together. I have been using Trello (which I also love) to build project boards over the last 4 years, but am finding that I am still missing some things in certain areas. I think this will bring all of my thoughts together in one place and make sure I am staying on track with things. I also really like the PARA framework. Thanks for sharing your knowledge and tips.

    Looks good and very easy to manage. The downside for me is that as each project is essentially a ‘line’ in that table, you could end up with 10’s of completed lines and not easily be able to hide them to remove distractions. If you can only archive entire notes then you’d need to start a new note with a reduced project list if you wanted to tidy things up.
    I use Apple Notes for project material generally and use Things. Each project has a heading and I group tasks into those headings. If they are in play they have a due date, if they’re subsequent actions then they get actioned upon completion of the previous step.

    • @Carl_Pullein
      @Carl_Pullein  3 роки тому +2

      One thing I've learned is if I try and manage all projects, then I end up with an overwhelming list. Instead I only have my active projects in there. The book, for example, is a 10-month project that will be in play from January. First-quarter will be writing the first draft. After that there's editing and re-writes. Other projects are projects coming up in Q1 only. Q2 projects are ready and waiting to be brought into the list.
      Once a project's complete, it is removed from the master list.

    • @lewisdoyle
      @lewisdoyle 3 роки тому +1

      @@Carl_Pullein Ah that makes sense. I thought you were implying you'd have a years worth of projects listed. I like the hyperlink to project material tip, that's useful.
      It's a shame Apple wont improve the features in Apple Notes because I prefer using that to Evernote as its so zippy and clean looking.

      @@lewisdoyle I too enjoy Apple Notes. Especially the updated version. I am user of Evernote dating back to 2008. A few months ago I tried using Apple Notes for entries I would typically create in Evernote. Let's take for example Receipts. I do not keep paper receipts. All receipts are scanned usually at the time I receive them into Evernote. Each receipt has handwritten note with indications such as "Personal" or "The Wayne Project", etc ... Apple Notes would often capture the receipt background in the image. Evernote quickly captures the receipt image only. Searching later I found Apple Note could not search handwritten notations. Where as Evernote search will find handwritten notes, even recognizing my artistic handwriting. Apple Notes is good. But, Evernote has superior image capturing and search technology.

      @@malcolmstephenson556 I used to use Evernote like that but just found it became bloated with several thousand notes.
      I only use Apple Notes to take notes. And it’s integration with my Apple devices is just brilliant.
      My interest in returning to Evernote spiked with the refresh but I still find the iPad and iPhone version unappealing.
      I really like the fact that global searches on Apple devices return items in Notes as well.
      Notes just has very limited text editing tools

    Do you have just one note for each project?

    Carl, I think you will be much happier putting your projects into Apple Numbers. Doing so will will allow you to sort or filter your project list on any column you use. - - - In addition, add another sheet in that Numbers document for "Tasks". That will keep you from spending time bounding back and forth between Evernote and ToDoist. You will also be able to relate each task to its project by including a project # in the task record and have Numbers look up the project name in the Project sheet. But, perhaps most importantly, you will be able to add a column to your task list that is the sequence (priority) number in which you intend to work on your tasks. Once you've assigned the sequence numbers, you will be able to sort the list in the proper order.
    Also, in your project and/or task sheets, add a column for a URL that a connects a project or task to a Note in Evernote where you put details for it.
