Are there any specific reasons you chose to work with OmniGraffle? Was it simply the program you already had access to, or was this a specific software chosen for your permaculture work? I'm a permaculture designer myself and have been researching what kind of software might be best for my projects; any input or feed back you have would be much appreciated! Thanks so much! Also your property and design is beautiful so far.
Hello, Casey: you ask a fair question. I have access to a lot of software, including the entire Adobe Creative Suite, Sketch, OmniGraffle and others. I have chosen OmniGraffle because I like the open source stencils on the market and it's excellent use of layers.
Hello +Joan Smith, thanks for sharing your thoughts. Hugelkuture, when combined with a swale is called stacking functions. It's a great way to build up the berm whilst providing a mound culture for the trees and shrubs on the water rich downslope-side of the swale. I'm curious where you heard the bad advice that this is a bad idea.
I think the concern is when there is a lot of rain the buried logs have a tendency to float and can destabilize your whole swale system sending it downhill. But if you dont get enough rain for that to happen seems like a good idea to me
+bulfrog5 the best way I have found, if they don't ever surface, is Arial photography or where the grass stays lush. You could also investigate the soil conditions and dig a few pilot holes. Springs will show themselves in the first couple of feet.
Rock on man, you're an inspiration, starting up our perma-property slowly. Cheers
Awesome vision. I can't wait to see it evolve over time.

Where's your link to OmniGraffle?
what is the programme name?
Interesting. I've heard that it's a bad idea to combine a hugelkuture with a swale.

jack spirko. he did a whole video on it. check it out. made sense to me.
+Joan Smith thanks for the info. I'll check it out. I personally have had nothing but gains from stacking the two.

How do you find wind patterns?
+Ashley Shrader, to determine wind patterns one must live on the land for no less than a full season, preferably four or five.
How do you determine where springs are?

How did you establish where the blue highlights are?
