- If the initial trailer was a 1/10, the unveiled (no pun!) gameplay was at best a 5/10. According to the superfans this makes it a big win that has proven the doubters wrong!
In reality though, this looks like a repurposed mobile phone / live service game with dumbed down action combat designed to appeal to the masses. Those masses however, showed last year that they want games like Baldur's Gate 3, not whatever Bioware is microwaving up...
You either die a good game or live long enough to see yourself become Fortnite.

Also the blueprint for "cinematic AAA game" is all over this, feels indistinguishable from other games.
Looks like they will have a multiplayer mode like andromeda. Else why make the combat a clone of it.
The one thing bioware always had was it's writing. I'd go so far as to say the gameplay was never exceptionally good. The writing of the characters carried the franchise. It's the one thing that not even Larian could entirely duplicate, though they got damn close.

I can forgive everything else: mediocre gameplay, distracting hud, playful aesthetics, everything... If the dialog is written this badly throughout, I'd rather spend my time replaying origins.

All these years since Origins my hype was in hopes Bioware would deliver us a sequel similar to Origins, thats all I could ever ask for... But they failed miserably, the backlash they are gonna get for this huge waste of time and resources is well deserved.
Fifteen years later they could not even come close to replicate that level of mastercraft...

Here's the thing tho... Yes, I was also looking at the gameplay and thinking to myself "this looks off somehow"... Then I watched some inquisition gameplay and... technically they are not that different... but somehow, this still feels off...
So I wonder if it's not the game... if it's just us that are jaded with all the games and also good games we had last few years... and if we just want more then a "decent game"...

This unironically looks like a jrpg now. Where are the days of Origins where the story was dark and the gameplay actually made you the pause function to appropriately plan out your strategy? Inquisition was already bad enough but from the gameplay shown, it looks like they've not only double down on deep as a puddle gameplay from inquisition, they basically made it into a hack and slash with skills.
Baldurs gate 3 proved that the audience can handle a bit of complexity. Consolization is destroying meaningful decision making about how you develop characters
No it doesn't. JRPG characters are typically drawn to be pleasing to the eye.
I really hope that the whole game isn't a mass effect style on rails shooter set in fantasy time. Origins had moments like that, but it didn't define the experience

It shows that the people writing that “pansexual” article on Reddit have never actually played a Dragon Age game. In DA2 you could romance all companions (except for Sebastian DLC) regardless of your character’s gender.
I will likely play this game... once it's on sale.
There's a mode where your character won't die. Back in the day we called this God Mode, for Veilguard it's more like Clod Mode, and the game "journalists" will be gushing over it.
There are 3 types of people:
1. People dissatisfied with the game
2. People who defend the game with their life because they are thirsty for the characters
3. People who defend the game with their life because they want to give BioWare another chance (like Andromeda and Anthem didn't teach them a lesson)
at least i can save my money for something better. that is one good thing with this disaster.
I can judge only by two trailers for now, but from what I saw:
1. Combat is bad (even worse than in Inquisition).
2. Facial animations are bad and with a bad lipsync.
3. Some clothes are cartoonish (like in companions trailer).
4. The graphics are mediocre (remained at the level of the Inquisition and Andromeda).
5. Textures are low-res/blurry/have no any details (especially compared to tha recent STALKER 2 trailer where the texture details are on the insane level)
6. Voice acting of the most characters is bad or in the best case mediocre (even Solas, wonder what happened to the voice actor there, because in DAI it was good). Varric is awesome (as always).
And that purple UI reminds me of Suicide Squad. *Not* a good memory lol.

You are very right I was very surprised. I have never liked Solas, but I admit his VA was great in Inquisition.
Neve was very bad too, and don't let me start on Rook, his voice is the worst one in that gameplay reveal.

To be fair, people are hyped about the queer elements and things like character creator because that's all we got news of for now. When we get to know more regarding gameplay we'll see what we think of it.
At this point I just want a Dragon Age Origins remaster (NOT REMAKE).

Its an rpg, we have always played for the story, the world and the characters. Veilguard does not look bad at all.

Most people feel this way. The devs removed the tactical approach to combat because they saw that only a small minority of players used it in Inquisition.
Arkham Age: Valorant
Exactly what I thought when I watched the gameplay. The people behind this worked on Valorant, Overwatch and the Batman series.
The game doesn't look like a Dragon Age sequel and the characters look terrible. This is another release I stopped caring about the moment I saw real gameplay. Bioware is now another mediocre studio releasing mediocre games at best.

bg3 was a good game with some woke stuff added in. You can feel that some bg3 developers wanted to do more woke stuff but someone prevented it. Remember the articles during early access were the bg3 devs were annoyed that people just make white human characters. A short while ago i saw a short interview with neil newbon at the bafta awards. He said something about that he is so happy about the fact that so many people are able to see themself in the game.
The bg3 devs are just as woke as the veilguard devs. Someone in Larian made sure that they made a good game first and prevented the woke dial turned to 1000.
The fact that they used vitiligo as an "skin option" shows how infected they were, yes.
I forgot the white character selection fuss, yes that was a red flag , myself I thought the game fell apart in act 3 , even ignoring the woke..i certainly lost interest , no longer understood the point or cared , i think folks raved about the game, cause the character writing was excellent, and its usually shit in AAA
They're very woke but they also know they can't go full woke on the game and keep existing, that's why they only showed a single lesbian couple in all of chapter 1 and 2 and hid under the rug all the gay husband one liners on act3 on irrelevant npc's, and a 2 minute dialogue for the trans character and the drag queen character.
The woke crowd is really easy to trick, you just add they/them on a game and put some ''gay dating sim'' into it and they're sold. That's why all we get is horrible low effort token characters.
My guess, Wizards of the Coast had a heavy hand in it and Swen kept it from getting out of control. From various articles, Wizards did have people work on it and Swen completely broke off ties with WotC. While there will still be woke stuff on their things, it will still be a fun game since Swen strikes me as an old guard type of dev. Make something fun over anything else.

Reddit made me remember Tumblr circa 2014 when DAI came out and how insufferable the fans were back then. Seems not even time has made a dent in that. For me it's not the wokeness that gets me. It's the fact that people are saying they're sold on this game when we've since seen shit dialogue, voice acting and gutted gaming mechanics.
It's like people learned absolutely nothing from Andromeda. Personally I'm very concerned with how it looks and expect a solid 5/10 but will reserve final judgement for when players get it in their hands in the fall.

You kinda have to remind people why trailers and gameplay teases are shown:

Devs wanna present the game in the best light possible. And if hundred of thousands of fans don't get excited by any of these, chances are the game will suck. You don't even have to get into the DEI stuff to make abundandtly clear that the game itself will be pretty generic, enemies just standing there, only focusing on the protag, dumb companion AI, voice acting a 6/10, enemies taken straight out of a mobile game for children.
I really wanted BioWare to succeed, so they can make things right with ME5 but if this is the main focus of BioWare, it might be for the better they never get to abuse my fav franchise like they did with Dragon Age.
I wanted them in a way to succeed because I want a Dragon Age Origins remaster.
But I don't even think they want to do that. In every entry they seem to ignore that game more and more.
Can they perhaps sell the franchise to Larian, that be great but wishful thinking i guess
Unless the game has a disastrous launch, and I mean to a degree that even people that want the game to fail would be shocked at, I dont think this will be the end of Bioware because ME4 is still in development. Lets be real, ME has always been the crown jewel of Bioware and I think the potential of ME to make money will stay EA's hand so long as, again, Veilguard does at least moderately to decently well in sales. That said, regardless of how Veilguard turns out, I cannot say I am excited for anything Bioware anymore.
Funny, because I read an article that says that Dragon age actually sells more than Mass Effect (to the surprise of EA devs themselves).
If devs keep talking about features that are supposed to be in the game but can't show them three or so months before the release, it usually means that they are still in no condition that can be shown to the public. This in return means, they either manage to fix in three months what they couldn't in three years, or these features won't make it into the final game, or they will be there but utterly broken. BioWare in particular has been guilty of the last one with Andromeda.
It was like1 and now its like weak3,so that is why they try to hammer so bad Baldur's Gate 3 was anomaly and back to the AAA purple DEi slobfest, i more care about story of the developing this.its crazy that Dragon age origins /aka the first one from: 2. November 2009,its eons better then this wow.ou and bioware is dead infected by activist and wokness.
I actually didn't know this was a thing until i started these videos. But i just started DA Origins because i was hungry for a game with a killer story.
But as I was playing last night i found myself admiring Duncan's devotion to his order and code. Even when he killed his recruit and says "Im sorry". I believed he was, hed have preferred not to do that, but hes not compromising the code of his order. I felt the pain of the king getting wrecked. I fell in love with Morrigan's dry wit, with Lilianna's accent. And the fact they actually look like women, bonus round. Good dialogue writing and great voice acting makes it easy to get invested in the characters. The type of combat system in this game wasnt my cup of tea but the game as a whole is just too good to walk away from.
Everything i just said about Origins, I don't think i could force myself to say about this DEI mess. This looks stupid, childish, and gross.

I'm not expecting anything even resembling quality from BioWare anymore and probably won't be playing the new Dragon Age at all, but Inquisition was already so bad that I don't see how Veilguard would be any great loss to gaming. I’m shocked the direction they took. Veil guard has so much potential, I never thought they would take it down the hack and slash path . With a point a to point b dungeon runs . Man everything I thought they would improve they went the complete opposite. I hope when the game releases it proves me wrong . But Its been removed from my buy list for now.
It's really bad how the devs act towards women. They purposely make us ugly. Only the women. Why is that ok, to make us ugly on purpose? The game itself: Characters look too clean, they should look well traveled. Neon lights and spotlights take me immediately out of the immersion. Should be toned down about 80 percent. There should have been a choice in that major moment, to work with Solas's plan or kill him to prevent it. Roleplaying is gone, linear storytelling with dialogue wheels that do nothing is what this game is about.

My personal opinion: I think the game looks great. The graphics are definitely improved from inquisition. I cant really judge the story or writing since i haven't seen enough of it. I think the switch to action is a good choice, because it will bring in more players who aren't as good at tactical playstyles or who prefer to take full control of their character. I don't care about the sexuality of the characters because that just makes it easy to romance who you want instead of having to start a whole new game just to bang a chick that says she like girls only. My final verdict. I think people need to hold off on all their negativity and realise that Drage age has been leaning in this direction for a while now. its not bad and I await to see more of what they've done to the world. I think we all as gamers to stop hating something before it releases, because all that's going to do is either add an unnecessary delay to game that's just gonna releases the same, or cause people who worked hard trying to deliver a product to us to get fired and we'll never see anything like it again. As the old saying goes Don't judge a book by its cover.
