As someone who had to deal with Bethesda's fuck-ups for years and had to learn to downpatch Skyrim, its incredibly sad to see Risk of Rain 2 of all games to be in a similar state.
new update feature, game lags when you play it well!! Past Stage 3-4 every teleporter is now bellow 30fps, when before it was stable 80 at all times Thanks gearbox!
Dlc content is alright, I like the stages and music, survivors are nice but chef and false son seem like they could use just a little bit more work, and the items include a lot of defensive/on damage taken whites and greens which aren't amazing compared to others. The real big issue is the bugs from the corresponding patch...
@abra_escaped I gotta disagree with you on the greens man they are all amazing items. Except noxious thorn I guess. But sale star is just free items, chance doll is free better items, luminous shot is really good damage especially on survivors like loader, and merc, and the unstable transmitter has saved my life so many times. It really gets you out of bad situations like the false sons insta kill laser. Not sure about prayer beads but they seem to be doin something. I'll agree that most new whites aren't great but the lantern could be really good on survivors who can precisely control their health, like rex, void fiend, or seeker. And then you have growth nectar. Thats just 2 free irradiant pearls for carrying around a few usually scrap items. Most of the new items synergize with it perfectly. People just gotta give it more time and play with these new items and survivors before calling all of them bad.
@@grantcole8898 very true about those greens actually, I just don't have all the items memorized yet and forgot them lol. Luminous shot is kinda crazy on false son especially with the bug where missing a primary lets the extra damage proc off any skill, boomerang and meteor are two good on hit proc chain type items for the red tier, and sale star once got me 4 reds out of the stage 4 gold chest! Having more defensive item options isn't exactly bad but I think most people especially eclipse 6/8 players would rather get extra mobility to avoid taking hits altogether, stuff like antler and echo are being compared directly with syringe, potion, teddy, gas, etc since they share a tier and more non busted items being in the pool means less busted items showing up per run on average. All that said I definitely need to play more before settling on my own opinions of the items, but that's probably an explanation for why the major content creators have had negative reactions to them
Question; I've tried to do this multiple ways (via RoR 2 version selector, and via this method) but no matter what I do I get the error "failed to connect to steam3" or some other variation. Does anyone know how to fix this?
If I do this will my eclipse progress carry over when the game gets into a better state? I had just finished e7 on everyone and was really enjoying the grind e8 :(
all the new white items are still dogshot and it makes runs harder, and then the new red item makes the game too easy, just such an unbalanced experience even without the bugs
It's because there is no Linux specific patch(I think) since RoR2 has no native Linux support. Just do everything like in this video, replace files in the game folder and launch it through steam.
I did basically the same thing but for a different game few years ago(Spelunky 2). It worked for it so I bet this method would work for RoR2(Not sure how to open console on deck though, I'm on PC:))
@@smashpotato2034Linux user here, it works fine, though I only got it working once I actually replaced the files from steam (deleting current patch folder and replacing it with the downpatch manually). Not like there's much use in having the current patch downloaded rn so it's not a big deal.
Thanks for the video. I am sorry for this possibly stupid question: but is this legally ok? I would love to still be able to play on the devotion patch, but without risking my Steam account.
@@Cap_ Can report the same issue; followed all steps in this video including copying the depot files into steamapps/common/Risk of Rain 2, open r2modman, run the profile imported with your code (haven't added any additional mods, was just testing to see if it would start ok) and any time I click "Start modded" Steam starts updating the game to latest patch. I can launch the game by clicking the exe file without it updating, and I suppose I could just manually install all my mods but it'll suck to lose the convenience of r2modman.
Yup, went through the same steps and it worked for me. Anything that works through steam has been pretty standardized because of the steam deck using Unix, which is really nice.
update so bad you need to literally go back in time to have fun in ror2
There are some mods that fix bugs now, so you can choose between downpatching and modding
@@Zeqt_x I love how modded ror2 is more stable than vanilla
I'll be having fun on a functional version of the game for now :)
Best new tech to come out of the DLC lets gooooo

It's just sad to see a beloved game in this state :( Thanks for sharing downpatch AND the mod guide
Of anything Gearbox should put past updates in steam's "betas" tab. That would make this WAY easier.
You missed the opportunity to go for the classic "Text Document + Paralyzer as bg music" type of tutorial.
Ah. The good old days.
Thanks for the tutorial Cap, saving the community once again
this deserves to have 1000,0000 views and be #1 on trending
ty for including the mod profile code and saving me from an aneurysm
I stopped steam from updating the game, loaded it up today and bam, updated. Thanks for the vid!
So good to go back after hours of the new broken version and dlc.. game feels even better than it used to:)
Great tech discovery

Honestly I'm enjoying this dlc. But I'm on console so I really don't have a choice. I do genuinely like it though
its more to do with all the decreases in game quality that came with the update to the pc version, not the dlc itself
@Cap_ yeah that makes sense. One small good thing about playing console I suppose

Let's hope Gearbox can do this
IMPORTANT! Make sure to back up your save file before doing that

It should carry over. And you can always use the realercheatunlocks mod to set them back to what they should be if needed
you should probably back up your save data just in case
There is a modpack out called SOTSfixer which fixes most of the bugs.
all the new white items are still dogshot and it makes runs harder, and then the new red item makes the game too easy, just such an unbalanced experience even without the bugs
The only thing missing from this was Dreamscape and Unregistered Hypercam 2
Man...
Yeah…
If I want to go back to the most recent patch, do I just uninstall and install the game again?
if you want to go back to the current patch, do you just need to verify the files?

so when I go into common it doesn't show ror2 there, so is there another way to paste those content files there or no?

I don't remember which one but it's from the cult of the lamb ost. They're all bangers though so enjoy the whole ost :)
@@Cap_ Thank you so much!
I hope this still works with multiplayer. If not, what would we have to do to get back to the current version?
content never shows up for me in steamapps
peak cap moment, now time to mod in the only decent content from the dlc heheh
Time to download HUNK. Top 5 content mods for the game
i tried installing mods after downpatching. but they either dont work, or it gets stuck during the loading screen
I've tried both manually and through Thunderstore. i havent tried r2modman, but im pretty sure its the same as thunderstore
nevermind i got it to work
how do I find my steam folder if its not in my programs file and my programs (x86) file
right click game in steam, click manage, click browse local files
How i upgrade the versión of the game to sekkers of the storm if i actually donwgrade the game?
Just download the update in steam

Yeah speedrunners downpatch all the time
@@Cap_ Thank you for the reply and the great guide.
Once i’ve downpatched my game crashes on launch :(
will this carry over save data in the game?
how will/does this have any effects on multiplayer? if so, is there any work arounds/fixes
