Also 45 and was blessed to have an older sister with exquisite taste in music. I thought this was perfect the first time I heard it, which I still remember the moment like it was yesterday.
Mate you're so insightful, you pick up on double meanings in lyrics and vocal nuances very quickly when most people take a good few listens for it to sink in. I really appreciate you going through the lyrics. Also you're bang on (pun intended) about the drummer, in my view Andrew Paresi is maybe the most technically gifted drummer Morrissey's worked with. ALSO, can you believe this was a b-side?? Madness...
I’ve always loved this one. It was a one of 3 b-sides to Moz’s first solo Single, ‘Suedehead’. The other 2 were ‘Oh well, I’ll never learn’ and ‘I know very well how I got my name’. Which I highly recommend. A really subtle and beautiful song. Morrissey has always had a habit of hiding away some of his best songs as B-sides. I always enjoyed listening to these four together. A nice little collection of songs. More like an EP really.
I can't believe I missed this one. I'm pretty sure I was here 11 months ago. This is def one of my favorites. I love the mocking way he says "You're just so busy".
Love your Morrissey Fridays! I don't know if you're going through Morrissey's albums chronologically or not, but you should definitely give Nobody Loves Us a go. IMO Moz sounded his best on Vauxhall & I and Southpaw Grammar.
Wonder which hairdresser he is singing about? Have a listen to William it was really nothing by The Smiths, with the great lyrics How can you stay with the fat girl, who said would you like to marry me and if you like you can buy the ring. Brilliant
This is one of his songs that make me laugh. A Rush and a Push... is one of m y faborites as well. Have you reacted to the song Rubber Ring(Smiths) yet? There is a good Morrissey documentary you can find on You Tube called The Importance of Being Morrissey. It follows him around and we get a glimpse into his life. Including going to a hairdresser. Happy Smiths/Morrissey Friday!
I think this is another of Moz's subtle gay flirtations. The "power in the fingers" always struck me as a hint of sexual frisson between the hairdresser and client. The area of Earl's Court and Sloane Square was also a place where there were traditionally a lot of gay bars, before they all moved towards Soho.
This was the b-side extra track on the 12inch version of his first solo single Suedehead , so very soon after Strangeways. He was singing then with his most confidence, singing like he did live at the time at concerts, you should listen to some tracks from the album Rank by the Smiths it's a live album, if you like they way he sings in this and Rush and a Push.
😈Love these 15 minutes -Moz-Fridays with you,Nick! Thanx for that reaction!💘 Great song! Please react to THE BEAUTIFUL SOUTH: Don’t marry her,f*** me!😊 one day! 🙏🏼

The song is nothing to do with hairdressing it’s a swipe at pretentious Londoners and the idea that London is a staple of success and content, but in reality the song shows the desperation of people trying to look good to fit in there to make it, big city nights and all that lol
Generally These reaction videos are so lame. Why should I be impressed because someone else is impressed? If you want a video that will be worthy of a reaction get the live version of Morrissey performing this song where least he adlibs and does some stage antics that you can react to.
@@InsignificantNick I never do. cuz this song is REALLY special to me, i thought id take a look see. OK ? Geez . Way to go to make me sorry I clicked on your link.
Dude, you're trully got the best taste in music i've seen here on youtube

I agree 'I know very well how I got my name' is a fantastic song. That first solo single had such great songs on it.

Good review Nick, Viva Hate and Bona Drag are brilliant in my opinion and the most smiths like Moz is as a solo artist
I look forward to Fridays now!
