@@KevinIsted you could try very finely chopping some veg/greens or mix into a mush. Mix it with the bird seed & gradually lower the amount of seed each time. This can be done a few times a day as you'll need to regularly remove & replace the veg/greens either way - so should be a quicker process. Obviously be vigilant with it as you'll want them to eat & not miss out on food because it's not seed. It really is a waiting game with some & perseverance is key so keep at it 👍
Hi Dave, i have a canary that is moulting but at the same time is being hormonal, the vet told me to stop his egg food for a month and just provide regular seed, veggies and little fruit, as far as i know that birds in moulting need that ekstra protein, what do you think?
@@lilsangarden thats correct. Stopping the egg food all together seems a bit weird. Yes, extra protein is one of the things that brings birds into breeding condition, but Im quite surprised your vet suggested that. The main factor that increases the need to breed is daylight. So id suggest reducing that each day & also reducing the egg food to a couple of days a week. However, its impossible to suppress hormones completely so stopping egg food for a month will only be removing the much needed protein
I'm here because we stumbled upon a gouldian finch on the road. He's not native, but what can I do to make sure he's okay till I can find someone to take him?
@@yuko6378 lucky you found him & he found you! Is he ok? Any injuries? You would need a small cage for him (as a temporary measure) & some food & water. Any Foreign finch seed will be fine for now. Might be worth you watching my video on How To Care For Finches. That will give you lots of great info for you to care for him correctly until he is removed 🙂
@@yuko6378 he may be moulting. In which case he could do with daily bathing. You can pick up bird baths for caged birds quite cheap. Please let me know how it all turns out with him & good luck 🤞😄
Depends how you want to breed. In cages you can target breed, but in an aviary you would be colony breeding - with both methods having their own set of challenges. Breeding cages are better imo as you know which pairs are mating, for example. Colony breeding works best when there is lots and lots of room. The size of your aviary isnt ideal for colony breeding with the amount of birds you have. Hope that helps 😊
👌🏻👌🏻👍🏻
Hi Dave still trying to get mine to eat other food rather than just seed, different bowls on its own mixed with seed still a waiting game

I'm watching them now, I got him the Pure canary and finch food. Thank you! I'm not seeing any injuries, but his feathers are messed up.
