They have been in Washington Square Park on weekends when the weather permits, and they have a new name: Select Blendz or Select Blends. Some other musicians, too and some new songs. Check for them on UA-cam!
"Duke of Earl" is a 1962 number-one song, originally by Gene Chandler. It is the best known of Chandler's songs, and he subsequently dubbed himself 'The Duke of Earl'. "Duke of Earl" debuted on the Billboard Hot 100 chart on January 13, 1962, and held the number-one spot for three weeks. It was on the Hot 100 for a total of 15 weeks.
These guys ARE professional. This music started out on the street corner and is best perfomed and purest in its original environment: THE STREET. And...Groundstone just won a NME award for best street video. Is that professional enough? Hollywood take note!
Thaks you for your information about.. They tell me what they are singing during 4-5hours by day!!!..(without playback ;D).. I think they are a lovely people with awesome voices!
Thanks for the info and reply. Also glad they won the best street video award and they deserve it. I do not live in the US, and no idea they were professional. I'm a big Sam Cooke fan, and had Sam been alive, he would've been proud of them.
The first song is "Duke of Earl" original by Gene Chandler" #2 is "What A wonderful world" by Sam Cooke. #3 Is "When You Dance" by The Turbans. #4 is "The Lion sleeps Tonight" first recorded by its writer, Solomon Linda, and his group, The Evening Birds made Famous by The Tokens. #5 is "Why Do Fools Fall In Love" By Frankie Lymon & the Teenagers. #6 Is "Chain Gang" By Sam Cooke.
@jgq85 They have a UA-cam channel, Groundstone1, and a myspace page. You can get in touch with them and buy their CD. Some of the musicians now perform with a group called "Select Blendz." They have CD too with similar great soul & doo wop music.
