After watching every car reviewer on most all 3-row SUV's and also driving for a year, all luxury models, nothing even comes close to this terrific well thought out and totally inside and out remodel. Acura was smart to keep the tried and tested six and that combined with the in-house designed 10 speed just works so smoothly unlike all the competition. The only thing I drove close to this was the BMW X5, but BMW's have a bad reputation when the warranty runs out, (then you pay big time) and take a look at parts you can not find and oil changes costing many hundreds of dollars. Go to Scotty Kilmer on this one and other European models that have that sweet smell for a while, but unlike the Acura's and Lexus models just disappoint over time. Time tells all things and Acura MDX has been the number one best seller with over one million MDX's sold and this one it off the charts impressive in every way. So many things like they had a think tank in engineering etc. come together to say let's make something NO one else will ever try. They did just that and I bought this Pearl Red and even my wife of 53 years loves the color and that is the only shock I had with the MDX. My only task is now watching tutorials on how to understand a huge computer on four wheels, as tech is everywhere in the Acura MDX. Also, as an author with eight books published I can go with just the third row down and carry 40 cases of my latest book to autograph signings and still seat five or four with the back seat center pull out seat. A neat trick there too!

This Advanced MDX should now include a working Dashcam (front and rear) that records when you start your engine using micro-sd card. Something to think about.

    • @ahf5471
      @ahf5471 3 роки тому

They aren’t using a camera capable of recording at higher speeds, typically that requires a compromise between optical power and optical speed. And Acura isn’t spending the kind of money to find a high quality solution.
And frankly, I’m not sure the control unit could even handle that on top of controlling the current head unit and it’s various features.
They can’t even find a suitable solution for in-motion-camera or a valet or park assist. The 2022 still lacks fairly plebeian features common in this segment like lane-change assist. Most vehicles already have a co-pilot/drivers-assist package in this segment. Not Acura.

My only gripe from reading the reviews and the Acura web site is the Color combos. I have a Canyon Bronze Metalic - not too many on the road, but is a standout as many people have complimented me on it with an Espresso interior. Acura dropped the Canyon Bronze color but retained the Espresso interior but only in the White exterior color. I personally don't embrace Black leather interiors. Or for that matter, they have a beautiful new Platinum color, but only paired with Black interior. A nice two tone grey would have been spectacular. Beggars can't be choosey. If Acura comes up with a Nice Trade up program (rade uip from my 2019 ) I would strongly going down that "road" ... THX again for nice succinct and informative Review.

If you can afford it, it looks like a good long-distance tralling SUV.

Completely disagree! This is the easiest direct touch Infotainment system on the market. Touch screens are actually as dangerous as playing with the phone. Gotta agree with Matthew down below, if it was a mouse pad style where you have to drag the cursor around then yes, this is similar to a mouse pad in that you press down to click however where you are on the trackpad is where the "cursor" is on the screen so if you touch the bottom left on the pad you'll be selecting the bottom left on the screen. It takes a minute to adjust but once you get used to its much easier.

I love my 2017 MDX with Advance package. The new one has a lot of upgrades and I like it too. There are some things I don't quite like like using the same engine with the same hp but the vehicle is bigger and heavier which is not ideal. The other one is the exterior - the old MDX (post-facelift) looks better to me. I don't quite like the rear lights of the old MDX but I don't like them on the new one as well. Also there are some shiny plastic (piano black) parts in the interior and this is a slight step back for me. Other than that a solid upgrade and I wish someday I get the new model. That said I plan on driving my MDX for at least 4-5 more years.

Hey Man, a very Good overall review.... Best I've seen the past week or so. No one emphasized the Interior lighting changes- that is very Cool. Even at 69 YO , I like Gadgets. This model is a wonderful upgrade from mine , at 201 MDX Advance. I would like to [pint out : Mine has 245/45 ratio tires, the new one has 50 ratio tires. When I out mine into Sport Driving Dynamic mode , the Advance package introduces Suspension Dampening together with the throttle and steering enhancements . The 45 ratio ties in Sport mode feel way too hard forcing me to go back to Normal mode. When I had a Loaner with 50 ratio ties, it was definetely better . I presume this MDX also engages suspension dampening !!

If you had to pick would you take 22 Acura MDX or 22 Lexus RX350L? I like to size of the MDX but I think long term Lexus would hold up better over time as for as reliability. I don't like the fact that MDX has a timing belt which is a big maintenance cost at 100k miles($2300). The Lexus RX350L has a timing chain.

Acura should include digital rear mirror, hill descent control and backing up emergency brake if you call yourself a 2022 luxury family suv. These safety features are actually nothing new or special in today’s vehicles. Even Toyota or Subaru has them.

    • @colinmacgrath5230
      @colinmacgrath5230 3 роки тому +1

there's no need for a digital rearview camera as you have cameras all around, i want to say it has backup e braking (not sure) and hill decent control is a nice idea for sure however the majority of people wont ever use it. Its a "soccer mom suv" if you know what i mean so while you can definitely take it off road the vast majority of people wont ever unless its an unpaved back road. But all good suggestions

Pause@8:54 wow, truly flat. I really really like the design engineers for this MDX.
They did an awesome job. Thoughtful people.
    THE BAD:
I don't like the busy dashboard, the gloss-black paint, the unnecessary curves and molds on the dash -- way too busy/old.-style.
Even the leather stitching/wrap around the display is overkill to me. Are all these molds and curve really appealing to people?

This doesn't look a like a Mazda. Hahahaha! The grille has been around for a while. They just took it from their cars and put it on the mdx and rdx starting in 2017. The Acura dealership I went to called it an "eagle grille" and that was back in 2016. This grille is very specific to Acura. And the light shape is even different than a Mazda. Put the CX9 next to this and you see the difference and I'm not even an Acura fan. Damn. I just like to look.

You also get more space and better warranty. I think Acura is in trouble. They are not a luxury brand and mainstream brands already caught up.

Great, IN DEPTH review by Hanson. All the changes are totally tech-forward & impressive! I actually love my 2017 Acura MDX w tech package, but am waiting to first see the MDX type-S, before making a decision. I’ve been a long time believer in Honda/Acura products. Whatever you’re paying for your Acura, you can expect to pay TOO MUCH MORE in a German/European vehicle and without the long term RELIABILITY. To me SAFETY & RELIABILITY means everything. Have a nice day.

This is not accurate with the 2022. Go price one out in the top trim, look at the lease prices. Then consider the Type S will be over $3000 more. There’s no rebates or incentives unless you are coming from another Acura in which case you will get $1000. But the dealer will mark up the top trim especially in the rarer color schemes. It’s not 2017 anymore, you’re in for some sticker shock, especially with this car. And let me tell you, it won’t be as reliable as you think. There’s tons of early release gremlins and many half-baked, imbecilic implementations.

Just purchased a 2022 Advance Model for my wife. Black pearl with added roof crossbars and hitch. I didn’t think too much of it at first but after driving it for a few days now I must say, it’s an absolute fantastic car. The interior quality is fantastic and the removable middle seat is great. Perfect family car. It a bit long in the front end and we are still getting used to that over our 2010 MDX. The steering wheel also feels really nice. The tech is almost overload. It will take a while to figure everything out from the safety features and settings.
My daily is a 5-series. I ll probably be sneaking away with my wife’s car a lot more often to keep “testing” the MDX out.

Are used to have an 02 Acura MDX and I loved it. One of my favorite cars however after that I moved over to the Hyundai brand because it was a much lower price and the warranty was phenomenal it was a full five-year 60,000 mile warranty. I also did not like the looks and the direction the MDX was going. This latest one is a big improvement for sure. It’s the first time I’ve even looked at an MDX several years. Once I started buying holidays I became hurts. The latest 2020 to Tucson in Santa Fe are amazing vehicles and just loaded with tech in a very reasonable price and phenomenal warranty. They may not be quite as solid as an MDX but for the difference in price that’s a direction I went. I’ll definitely check out the 2020 to MDX and see what’s going on with it before I make my next purchase. Right now I’m looking at a 2022 Hyundai Tucson or Santa Fe highbred. Both have a ton of horsepower and specifically thinking of the plug-in hybrid which gets 32 miles just on the battery but I still have a turbo engine at 182 hp backing it up for a total horsepower of over 240. Best of all worlds. All wheel drive course as well.

    Pause@8:17 The design details... awesome.
(The font is legible, to large, to close, etc. The icons aren't appropriate, too large, too shapeless/close, etc.)
Anyway, Tesla should pay attention to quality design/build.

Range of 178 with over half a tank of fuel means this thing is terrible on gas. My 21 X5 gets 520 miles on a tank and I average 27MPG.

Hanging on to my 19 MDX Sport Hybrid for a little longer. The +22 MDXs would be perfect for the old 17-20 MDX Sport Hybrid powertrain AND a plug-in Hybrid option.

@@mrgold3591 Since posting this comment, I've since learned that Acura is still using timing belt instead of a timing chain!! That is a huge turnoff for me! I too will be keeping what I got for awhile before deciding on another vehicle for I still haven't found the perfect car that hits all the checkmark of what I'm looking for!
What's even more depressing is that nothing I've found on the horizon even meets my expectations! Hopefully that will change soon!

@@driversteve9345 Honda/Acura V-6 have been using timing belts for awhile. It only matters if you plan to keep your V-6 Acura more than 7 years or 105,000 miles when the minimal timing belt service is due. Some Acura owners have gone up to 10 years or 150,000 miles on the original timing belt.
It cost me around $1600 for the timing belt service on my 11 MDX back in 2018 (timing belt, serpentine belt kit, water pump, coolant, spark plugs, valve adjustment, oil change). You would only have to spend that much money once in 210,000 miles or 14 years of ownership. Spending $1600 isn't that much more than a good set of tires that only last 3-5 years compared to 7-10 years for the timing belt.

@@mrgold3591 It does matter to me and actually, by a lot! I drive for Uber/Lyft and I put on about 45K miles per year! So yeah, if I plan to keep the car for years to come, a timing belt I wouldn't feel safe with because as you know, if that goes, your engine is just a huge paperweight!
Not only that, but using a timing belt puts into question what other parts did they skemp'd on to save money?? This is why I love Toyota and Lexus vehicles even though they don't yet have a perfect vehicle for me but they are very reliable vehicles that I can count on for 400,000, 500,000, and even 600,000 miles! Yes, that's how reliable they are and why they tend to hold their resale value pretty well!

@@driversteve9345 I see just as many Toyota/Lexus with +300,000 miles as Honda/Acura. What you don't see is Korean or European with that many miles. It is a like Chevy-vs-Ford debate in the good ol' days. It just depends on what side of fence you are standing for the best vehicle for you. We will both be on the road when everything else in the same price range is in the salvage yard.

To make money off the app subscription. Just got a 22 and there’s I believe a three month trial before you have to pay to include remote start with the app
