So... it's a bit of a long story for this one--I didn't actually intend to make this video.
Last year, I was asked to do a bunch of 4th of July brass quintet concerts, so I arranged this tune because it's fun and part of an ongoing inside joke I was beating like a dead horse with some of the orchestra staff. Three or four days before the gig, they mentioned, "by the way, this is a DEI concert." So I didn't feel like playing "Stacy's Mom" was appropriate for a concert honoring Harriet Tubman with her granddaughter there. (Although in hindsight, she seemed like she maybe would have enjoyed it).
Anyway, cut to a year later and I'm testing out some new audio equipment, so I just start recording that arrangement, taking a bunch of the music down a 5th. I took a couple of parts down another 8vb, added some auxiliary percussion, and realized this was a banger. It also amused me that Mother's Day is just around the corner.--and thus "Stacy's Mom" for trombone quintet was born. Hope you enjoy it!

Nice! Never heard this tune before, so I had to find a video of it. Liked the official video. Your cover does the tune justice. As always, your sound is great. Thanks for the video!

Thanks for listening! Glad you enjoyed the original video too. Thought about including bits of it, but decided against it in the current climate…

You've outdone yourself Chuck. Other guy is right about the percussion being nearly inaudible vs the lush bone landscape, but damn i don't care i just wanna know how many bass trombones you have?

haha... you hear that Tom? You're right!
You know I had been playing a bunch of orchestra concerts in a row with loud percussion right behind me. This may have been a subconscious reaction to that.

I can't hear the tambourine at all, and can only barely hear the other percussion. Although my ears are old, I just visited another video (Postmodern Jukebox ft.Morgan James & Tambourine guy...) and clearly heard the tambourine. Anyone else had a similar experience?

      Hi, Tom! Thanks for listening.
I’d say the percussion is definitely buried in the texture. The arrangement wasn’t meant to have any perc at all. I.e. the bass lines are much more active because of this. As a result the perc is just there to add some energy to the backbeats. It’s not very present on my iPhone speakers, but it’s there. Try headphones maybe?

@@Chuckplaysthetrombone I started with on-ear headphones then moved to the polk audio floor speakers. I guess I am confused why you would feature them in the video so prominently and then mute their presence.

@@TomW2034I mean… to answer your question directly, I can hear it just fine, it’s just not very prominent in the texture. Maybe others disagree? I know I tend to mix percussion further back in the mix in gerneral so I wouldn’t worry about it too much.

@@Chuckplaysthetrombone your ears are younger. Regardless, I just wanted to pass along an observation. I did enjoy you making me think about a part in a performance. I don't do that as much anymore.
