OMG 😱 I shook my pen a bit and the Fire and Oster has a beautiful red sheen. It’s gorgeous. Wow! All this time it had no red sheen. So I guess you have to work at it to make it work, which is ridiculous. Try it folks.
Good review. I purchased a full bottle, and while I like the ink very much, I have noticed no sheen or red tones either. I purchased several other bottles of Robert Oster blues and they seem poorly differentiated-too similar. Again, thanks for your work.
Having looked at a ton of Oster blue inks they are very close to each other, there are some subtle differences between them all. I think of it like this, while I wasn't 100% happy with this ink I would easily use top a bottle. That feeling makes me think that it must be pretty good if even when left disappointed I could be happy using the ink.
Just got a sample of this from Goulet, same thing for me. 0 sheen with a medium point Pilot dip pen on Muji paper. Looks like a slightly more blue version of Tranquility with less shading. Based on my sample I like Kon-Peki better.
If I remember this review correctly, I didn't get much sheen at all.... if any at all. But if you want sheen then give a try to Ackerman #5 Shocking Blue.
Same thing happened to me when ordering samples. I have ordered the craziest inks and to my surprise they were plain in some cases. I believe that could be the person filling u the samples not mixing the ink first. Thats my opinion.
I think for a long time it wasn't known that these sheen inks need to be shaken before filling or they separate in the bottle. I don't stress it though, I figure that is the sample I have and will be reviewed as is.
I actually think I recall others being confused over lack of sheen or inconsistent sheen as well. In fact the complaint is one of the reasons I haven't bought this color, because I do like sheen a lot and otherwise am not impressed by this shade of blue.
I see nothing truly wrong with this shade of blue... it just doesn't do for me what so many talked about. As far as Robert Oster Blues go though, I am a huge fan of his School Blue.
I found Fire and Ice to be a little "shy" when it came to showing sheen at first, but after a few fills, the rest of the bottle became a quite heavy sheener. Not sure why this happened - I recap my bottles immediately after filling and always shake before filling, so it doesn't make sense that the first 2-3 fills had no sheen and every one after that has had pretty impressive sheen... but that's been my experience.
I did laugh at calling it "shy"... I see how if I had a bottle and the bottle gets down then there might be more sheen. I was disappointed it didn't have the sheen just because I expected so much of it here. The ink is otherwise nice.
@@AnInkGuy I hear you. I was so disappointed I almost sent the whole bottle to someone else, but it's become one of my favorite inks now. Which is not me trying to convince you to do the same, just a general commentary on how weird inks can be sometimes!
You are 100% correct... this was filmed before I had known that. With that said, I stand by my review, it was, after all, a review of the sample I purchased.
No ideas why that happens. It has happened to me a bunch of times from different retailers. Maybe bottle isn't shaken before making samples, so there is some sample out there that is all sheen, lol.

That's good to know!
Thanks.
No sheen for me either. I’ll try shaking it before. Hmm. Sad. Thank you for your honest review.
It is just really a shame because that is what this ink is known most for.
Without the red sheene, this ink looks a lot like Diamine Turquoise, which is a beautiful ink.
I find the sheene ruins a bunch of inks for me...

Thank you for this honest review! As so often - just a hype 😉
Always!

I was wondering if you could review Sailor Manyo Yomogi.
I can add it to the next buy list, but will likely take some time to get to for a review.
@@AnInkGuy Thanks. It is my favorite teal ink so far, but I don't think I look at the same properties of it that you do.

@@maccaj6565 It can take a little bit for us to gain a full appreciation of different things.
Do you shake your ink bottles before you fill your pen?
@@TheMartialist Yep, as I said in my original comment, I always shake before filling.
If the sample was taken without stirring up the larger bottle, none of the sheen would be present in your aliquot.

No sheen for me either, sample from goulet pen.

Weird.
What is weird? Is it that I didn't get the sheen that people revel about?
