You may want to use denatured alcohol, which doesn't have the lubricating oils that rubbing alcohol has. This is especially important if you're planning to use water based finishes.
The font for the word "Mother's" is: Harrington The font for the word "Keepsakes" is: Carmencita NOTE: I manually node edited the lettering a little after changing the fonts to curves - i.e., I removed certain fine details to assure a good carve without chipout
Thanks for the plans for the "Fancy That" box project. My granddaughters will love it! I'm new to the cnc world and ran across a G code that I would like to change. In the profile cut of the bottom and top. Z moves to a position that is higher that the machine can go. This line is the first and last Line for Z to move. I have a waste board on my cnc. The G code tells Z to move 1.8000 when I actually only need 0.8000 making my bits to plunge into the wood further. I have edit the code but the next time I open up the file its back to 1.8000. Is there a way to save the 0.8000 value so I don't have to change it every time? I'll look forward to your reply. Thanks in Advance Mr. Tyler
Hello Ralph, and thanks for the question. Have you checked your safe heights when calculating the tooling for your CNC before saving off the g-code? I'm a little unclear why you would manualy change the code. I would problay either recheck the tooling in your software before exporting the gcode (be sure to use the right post-processor for your CNC) or send a note off to support and see if they can see any issues. Hope that helps. Hope that helps.
Hi George! I'm not sure why you are experiencing this problem. This link will take you to login then directly to the download page on V&CO. portal.vectric.com/p/fancythatbox-freeprojectof . Let us know if you have any further problems. Thanks
Nice design, but I can see the bottom splitting due to gluing the sides to it. The wood needs to move. A groove would be better for a panel to ride in (no glue), and then adding a decorative molding at the base. Frame and panel design has been around a long time, and for good reason! I hope to see future designs that take into account wood movement.

That's true, this box is going to fall apart in no time. The design takes no account for the movement of wood. However, I don't think the bottom is going to split, because the end grain to end grain mitre joints holding the sides together are really weak, so that's what's probably going to fail before the bottom has the chance to crack.
Yes, good point! The end grain is the weakest point, so I agree. The bigger issue though is the project needs to be designed to work with wood movement. Other Vectric projects I've looked at have similar issues. I'm still grateful Vectric supplies the projects, but we should also be promoting good woodworking practice and technique.
Hello Garri, thanks for the comment! MIke does not, but he does contribute to or free projects often so keep subscribed and you will be sure to see more of his work.
Hey Steve. Thank you for your comments we shall bear them in mind for production of future videos. Thank you for watching and I hope your wife liked the project too!
Nice clean instructions and video. I should know; I am a retired video producer. But...the sound levels are problematic. When I set the volume to hear your voice, the music then comes on so many decibels higher that it shocks my eardrums. Then you start speaking and I have to turn up the volume again, and then the loud music comes back. Whoever edits your video needs to normalize the output volume so it has even peaks between the music and voice. I mean no offense. I only share this because I know you want the comfort level of your sound to equal the good quality of your visual production.
Hey There! Thank you for your comments, we do appreciate audience feedback as we are always looking for ways to improve our video content. We are currently looking into the production of our videos and so hopefully we should see improvement in new videos that we will be releasing in due course. Thanks again :)

It's a pretty box, but it's poorly designed and constructed. It is going to fall apart in a few years, if not sooner, for two reasons: 1) the sides are glued to the bottom, which is going to expand and shrink across the grain and 2) end grain to end grain glued mitre joints, which hold the sides together, are really weak.
Mr. Tyler you are genius. I like your box design
Thank you for your kind comments :) We love that you love Michael's box!
Love the design of the box, really like those hinges. Good job Mr. Tyler.
Thank you, Stephen!

Very simple easy to do project. Nice job!
Thank you!
use a 1.5" 90 Vgroove bit for your miters. Super EZ
Hi Michael, very nice project. To remove hot glue, use rubbing alcohol and it will come off very easily and it won't stain the wood.

@@ApexWoodworks Good call Marty, thanks.
My daughter loves that kind of thing
Thank you!
Fantastic project thank you...do you sell these
Thank you Ralph, no we do not sell projects they are examples of what you can do with the software!
Awesome work. Thanks so much for sharing.
Nice project and video Michael.
Hello sir , very nice video
What type of wood did u use ? And what u recommend for v carve which wood ?
Awesome build!
Thanks!
Nice job, why dontt you recess/pocket the base so the sides can be seated into the base?
Hey Ned, Thanks for your kind comments :) And that is a great suggestion for an alternate lid - Thank you :)
Hi Michael, love your projects. I saw the mother's keepsake box that you designed and wondered what font you used for the text.
The font for the word "Mother's" is: Harrington
The font for the word "Keepsakes" is: Carmencita

Is there a way to change the words on top of box from "Fancy..." to may be someone's name ?
Hey Ashish, you will have to delete the text that's in place and create new text as the text was converted to curves. I hope this helps!
Beautiful!
Thank you, Jim!
Super job
Thanks from holland
Hello Ben! Thank you very much!
Tried to download it but....it takes me to a set of planters instead. Yes I have a VCO account. Wonder If I am doing something wrong.

Now that's a bodacious box.
Thank you!
What type of wood did you use?
Hi Leba, I used kiln-dried Select Pine for the sample. Any tight-grained light-colored hardwood (such as Maple) would be super!
Just curious how much did your cnc machine cost?
Hey There, you can head over to the ShopBot website to see what they charge for their CNC machines :)
Can you tell us the bits you used in this project?
Hello... that information can be found in the PDF that is included in the download.

May I suggest you show the finished project at the end of the video? I called my wife over to see it and the video just ended. Slight disappointment.

Thats some of the worst music ever put over the top of a youtube video.
Very simple, very cheap, very american. Typical vectric. Everybody who wants something nice, should make a different box.
Fu Thaiter Where is your channel so we can see some typical non-American, non-Vectric work?
