    This is a nice demonstration. I know of several students who would love to see this content.

    hello thanks a lot for such amazing work though i am wondering if i could get specification for small blades for toys not the real chopper.

    Hello Mr. Tom, I'm happy with this video clip and it really helped me in my work. Please I like to know how you work out the various thickness (in percentage) of the airfoil section at various stations. Kindly reply, please.

      Emmanuel, it has been a couple of years since I did this video but if I remember correctly, there is a screen shot of a "casting" that I made of the prop camber. At 2:03 in the video I show how I "molded" the outside of a section of the prop. The picture shows a view looking down on the piece of paper onto which I traced the outline of the mold. As i remember, the calculations were simple math from there. As I mentioned in the video, there were a few assumptions made throughout. I hope that helps.

      @@theminertom11551 Thank you for your quick response. I believe the casting you are referring to is for a particular blade station. Can you throw more light on the simple math involved? How do you get the root station blade thickness to be 100% and the tip station blade thickness to be 15%? Looking forward to your response please.

      @@emmanuelnwokolo1424 Emmanuel, I would help you more if I remembered more. I can tell you that I am not 100% sure that the camber is the same throughout the blade, as I made an assumption. And, I only used the mold in order to find what the camber might be...it was not all that mathematical. Once I determined a "close fit" while looking at all of the possibilities that I downloaded from the website as shown in the video, there was no math involved, just copying dimensions from the data. All of that is explained, in probably too much detail, in the video. Yes, there was a lot of hand waving involved. This was not too scientific. True aeronautical engineers would use something like Matlab or more specific tools. I was not looking for great accuracy but only intended to show why a prop might need a twist, because I was curious. I am not a prop designer, nor will I be. I'm just a humble A&P. Oh, yes, I forgot, with 40 years of experience as an electronics engineer designing high speed circuits and digital signal processing :-D .Finally, I don't think that anyone in my A&P class actually watched the video. One said to me "I tried to watch it but there was too much math". Oh, dear.

    The tangent arc is only tangent to the line at the first point.

    Where can i find those propeller section data? Just as the repair specifications you showed at the beggining of the video.

      Leonardo, I am not sure that I understand your question. The Senenich propeller manual should be available on line, although I probably used the manual that was available when I was in the A&P class. However, as shown in the video, the thickness of the propeller was not available in the manual so I needed to make a cast of the prop and use those thickness measurements. Good luck.

    Sir I want to make an accurate model of 15x8 propeller for my model and do the analysis, where can I get the data sheet like the repair manual you have mentioned in the video??

      Adhish, I honestly don't know how to answer. The only reason that I had the data is that in A&P class, there were these manuals that were part of the course. I did not have to find them. Now, I would expect that any propeller that you choose will have the same data, available from the manufacturer. However, the maintenance manual for a propeller is not design data. As you can see from the video, I had to make a mold of part of the propeller, which I had in the hangar, in order to get an idea of the camber of the propeller, which is not in the maintenance manual. Perhaps in some other maintenance manual, that information is there. Also, there are several assumptions that were made. My reason for doing this video was to explore the idea of putting a twist in a propeller, which the Wright Brothers knew about without the benefit of advanced simulation tools. I just wanted to see if there was a difference. This was not an exact method of propeller design. If that is what you are after then you are on your own.

    Hi, how do you work out the reference geometry / stattion points .. confused why theyre not the same as your length

    • @theminertom11551
      @theminertom11551  2 роки тому

      Almost all the information came from the maintenance specification of the propeller, a page of which, was shown in the video. I only used the mold (again, shown in the video) to determine the camber of the prop that I had. That information was not in the maintenance spec. Once I had a good idea of the camber, I looked at the site referenced in the video to find a prop profile that fit that camber relatively closely. As I have stated to Emmanuel, this was not an attempt to design a prop but it was an attempt to use Solidworks flow profiler to see why a propeller needs a twist. Prop designers use completely different tools and mathematical methods.
