Bishop Barron, first allow me to offer my sincere condolences on the passing of Pope Benedict XVI. I would also like to say that I am a United Methodist, but I frequently watch your videos and I appreciate your viewpoints and the respect and dignity you show to people of all faiths. Your comment at the end struck me. Karl Barth has always been one of my theological heroes. A Professor I had as an undergraduate (a retired Methodist minister teaching at a Catholic Liberal Arts College) heard Barth speak at Princeton Theological Seminary and he said the same thing when asked how he summarized his theology and then stated the opening line to "Jesus Loves Me, This I know..."...I still remember that story all these years later. How wonderful that a song we view as a simple children's hymn could sum up the very meaning of being a Christian. How interesting to hear that in your interpretation, Pope Benedict XVI would have agreed. Thank you again for the work you do. I celebrate the commonality of our Faith and embrace the dialogue between us! To paraphrase a quote from another of my Theological heroes, Bishop Futon J. Sheen, "we may not all be able to meet in the same pew on Sunday morning, but we may all meet on our knees". God Bless you, Bishop Barron.
When I read his books, I found he was brilliant and pure minded person and so close to Jesus. Faith and Reason, Christocenteric vision of Church. He was able to see error in this age, which is relavitism. The world we now see is swirling around the extreme relavitism, denying there is objective truth outside of us. Pope Benedic XVI and St. Pope John Paul II, pray for the Church and us all!
“I say to you dear young people: Do not be afraid of Christ! He takes nothing away, and He gives you everything. When we give ourselves to him, we receive a hundredfold in return. Yes, open, open wide the doors to Christ and you will find true life." -Pope Benedict XVI
Pope Benedict is deeply loved. By God and by us. Forever in our hearts. He was shy and an introvert but he did his very best to lead the Catholic church through these times. Pope Benedict be assured, we will keep praying for you. Especially the Divine Mercy chaplet. Thank you for everything.
One has also to comment on his humility and the way he stood aside, silent... in prayer while storms raged about him. His behaviour an example, a blessing to the whole world. Rest in Peace Benedict XVI
I believe there is an incredible "liviing/life" lesson that is often overlooked that, to me, sums up the lesson I receive from this holy man's life. It isn't a great intellectual discourse, it is simply his life: humility. As great as his mind was, his example of how he lived his life, and the humility shown by resigning, are indicators that he didn't just speak of faith, he lived it. Many can grasp the intellectual arguments and many cannot, but all of us can see the example of this great and holy man's life. May he enjoy his eternal glorious union with God at rest.
I continue to pray for your healing and Mercy my dear Lord, for my grandaughter Samantha, 18,who collapsed on 25 November and is still critical in a coma. Jesus, I trust in you, have Mercy.
I remember hearing the phrase, "The spirit of Vatican II." So many times, it could have been honestly said, "What I am about to say is a total misinterpretation of Vatican II." To really understand the Council, I believe that one has to go back and study the Church Fathers and the Bible. As an example, liturgical planning should not be centered on, "How can we creatively do something with this celebration," but rather, "How do we faithfully celebrate these texts and readings, so that we encounter Christ in our liturgical celebration?"
Thank you bishop Barron and mister Brandon for appreciation for our papst Benedict XVI. Really enlightening. Upmost respect, what a contribution. Papa Benedict...is special light for me. I will trust in God. Even though it’s difficult, I will continue to walk with faith and not by sight. Please pray for me. My husband passed away years ago. I’m all alone. I’m a single mother. Both of my sons are autistic, they require a lot from me because they are non verbal. Every month is a struggle, to not end up on the streets. I lost my job as a social worker at Forsyth hospital because I declined the vaccine. I declined because of my pre existing health condition lupus, and heart disease. I was denied my medical/religious exemption. I wish I could go back but the mandate is still in place for hospitals that participate in Medicare and Medicaid all employees must have covid 19 vaccine. I get harassed constantly and mocked for sharing my testimony and for asking for prayers but prayers are all I want and I also want to bring awareness of how vaccine mandates are ruining many ppls lives. I’m now waitressing and I’m so thankful but not making nearly enough to get by. I’m tired of struggling putting food on the table it’s so discouraging. But even as I’m put down and mocked because of my situation. I still have faith that our Heavenly Father will provide he has THIS FAR! Faith over fear. Please pray for me and my boys! God bless! 🥰

I don't think those comments were about Saint Thomas Aquinas. It was more at the neo Thomistic theologians who only saw that theological framework as the basis for explaining Catholic Doctrine. Neo-Thomistic theologians were the predominate way theologians were taught in the 19th century in the Catholic Church which likely persisted well until the early 20th when Pope Benedict was in his formative years in elementary school.
Joseph Ratzinger was probably the greatest Christian writer since Martin Luther, maybe even since Augustine. He wrote for the common man and woman as well as for academics. I highly recommend his three volume work Jesus of Nazareth.
Do not compare the holy Pope Emeritus with the heretic Martin Luther. I consider Benedict XVI one of the greatest Catholic theologians of the past century.
It's clear that Pope Benedict XVI was a gifted intellectual with a brilliant mind. And even with all that was said in this episode of the show, there's so much more to unpack on him for many years to come.
Thank you Bishop Barron. Loved the video and we shall always remember Pope Benedict as one of the greatest leaders in the Catholic Church!!! May he Rest In Peace!!!!!!🙏🙏🙏🙏
🙏🙏🙏In typical Pope Benedict XVI fashion, just as in life his humble death humbly points toward the Lord. Joseph Ratzinger was such a great blessed man and servant of Christ Church. RIP Pope Eméritus Benedict XVI🙏🙏🙏
A holy priest, an academic, so studious, very influential in the vatican. How he loved God!!!! Many people didnt know what a great human being our beloved Pope Benedict was. And a great priest too. His writings, research, his enciclicals,....such a great contributor to our Church and faith. We thank You father Ratzinger, Pope Benedict. Rest in peace. God Bless.
12:19 PM. Pope. Benedict XVI blessed our world with his love of God, his Son and our Savior Jesus Christ. Filled with the Holy Spirit his leadership during Vatican II., and during his eight years of Papacy, was able to illuminate the world in his “ dialogue with the rationale word” and with his “Faith & Reason; and his Friendship with Jesus Christ “!! RIP, Pope Benedict XIV, you will be missed!
On question I would have liked to ask Bishop Barron... Do you think Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will become a Saint? (I do) God bless our beautiful Catholic Church! ⛪️
“On pain of excommunication you are not to talk to the police or anyone else. Investigations should be handled in the most secretive way restrained by perpetual silence”. Joseph Ratzinger - Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith message to cardinals and bishops.
Love and go on loving, until you reach an old age and die, what is there to look for, but someone later will see that you have a strength to endure , they will see something.. (everybody wants to love and be loved!!)
What is the title of the book which is a great aid to us who do not know much of the beloved Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI and how to order it? I am from the Philippines. A great prayer warrior for the late Pope Emeritus since day 1 he resigned. I always prayed for him and his intentions during prayer of the Holy Rosary and following the prayer for the intentions of Pope Francis. The late Pope Emeritus was not included in the collective prayer for me, his exemplary show of how a good leader and true servant will always be the number one legacy I will always keep in my heart. I know Jesus has been preparing his wonderful and awesome room since his birth. God bless his beautiful soul. I will always pray that the good teachings and learnings we have from him will not be put to waste, i.e., may the Good and ever Living God place his name into the long lists of our saints. Proud to be a catholic here. God bless us all!
One of Benedict XVI's great friendships was with the founder of the movement out of Milan called Communion and Liberation, Fr. Luigi Giussani. A somewhat charismatic movement that is fond to describe Christianity as an event, the theology underpinning the movement dovetailed closely with Ratzinger's own thoughts. The 2 men found themselves kindred spirits in the war against the dictatorship of relativism. The pontiff gave the homily at the funeral of Giussani, it's very much worth listening to.
We need to thank Pope Paul VI for making him Archbishop of Munich and a Cardinal. If he hadn't, Fr Ratzinger [as he then was] would have remained a university professor at Regensburg and would probably have been unknown outside of Germany.
I so enjoyed your commentary on Benedict XVI, especially with reference to Vatican II. By way of background, I was a teenager living in Germany (where my father was stationed) during the Council so we experienced its full effects of the liturgical changes. Germany had been ‘leading’ the way in ‘reform’ (as it is apparently doing today) using German in the Mass and so on. Your comments about how the decisions of the Council were received somewhat erroneously resonated with me. My dad was terribly distressed by the Council remarking at one time that he no longer knew what was a sin and what wasn’t based on what we learned from the publicity about the council. He was opposed the guitar masses and regretted the relegation of the great Church music to the background as well as other liturgical changes that seemed to make no sense to him. IF he had been able to listen to you and your thoughtful explanations, I think he would have become a great proponent of the Council.
Great summary on the great Pope Emeritus, Benedict XVI! Thank you. It would have been more complete if Bishop Barron could have provided some discerning commentary on the controversial post-retirement letter Benedict wrote which in many ways was seen as a criticism of Pope Francis' first 5 years. Still, all in all a good episode. May he RIP. Thx.
Thank you father, may 2023 bring prosperity to the Church to what already has to re-nourish it. I like your style. It was the House of Tibetan Healing from the school of Osho in India, the Multi-University as it was named then in Puna (Poona) India whom in the 90's or 2000's with it's leader Deresh moved near the Vatican. As we broad International therapist to our Osho Oasis in another part of the world and Tibetan Healing too, with Massage therapist and dance, meditations they would tell us of the events near the Vatican, just in the boarder or so. They meditated for the Vatican, because they have so much power, I'm certain that it could be certified, Deresh, before dying wished to be right there as close as possible with his people, meditating for the monks and nuns in the Vatican. Many had died from cancer, etc,... and are not here today. They broad Millions to the commune and had profitable followers whom invest to settle near the Vatican. When Osho died I was 17, there was an energy in the air and, no the Bible, the works of our people would never surrender because of the devotion beyond the self and sense of charity no other religion or enlighten cares. Simply as that, there was a strong meltdown when he left the body. Deresh understood this, I love being Christian, was broad to India when 13 and always compared the Church accepting their learnings and thanking I'm a christian for the integrity. Adults would say that I was too straight, and in the end was right, I was ashamed of being with this uncaring people and not growing with my own, yet if there was something to learn my interest was open too, they had wisdom too and preventing sickness with doctors and psychiatrist who left the career in order to help prevent sickness. Celebrating and learning from the body is still dubious, for me Jesus was celebration and transformation, anyone who'd love wine, to let the dead burry the dead had to be joyous in profound glory. As older I've become, is deeper and intimate, without effort. Thank you father, I pray to get out and move.

Thank you Pope Benedict the 16th for your prayers and achievements coming from Marktl, Germany. God bless. God bless quantum entanglement.
Thank you Jesus
🙏🙏🙏In typical Pope Benedict XVI fashion, just as in life his humble death humbly points toward the Lord. Joseph Ratzinger was such a great blessed man and servant of Christ Church. RIP Pope Eméritus Benedict XVI🙏🙏🙏
Thank you Bishop Baron.
I hope he sees the Lord
A Saint in Heaven today. God bless Pope Benedict. He was a blessing and gift.
Lord I pray Pope Benedict is with you. Eternal rest grant unto him Lord and may he rest in your light and love now and forever.
May Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI,
Rest In Peace
A holy priest, an academic, so studious, very influential in the vatican. How he loved God!!!! Many people didnt know what a great human being our beloved Pope Benedict was. And a great priest too. His writings, research, his enciclicals,....such a great contributor to our Church and faith. We thank You father Ratzinger, Pope Benedict. Rest in peace. God Bless.
a fine pope and author, well done good and faithful servant.
Lord welcome the soul of Pope Benedict XVI into your most holy dwelling in heaven. Amen.
12:19 PM. Pope. Benedict XVI blessed our world with his love of God, his Son and our Savior Jesus Christ. Filled with the Holy Spirit his leadership during Vatican II., and during his eight years of Papacy, was
able to illuminate the world in his
“ dialogue with the rationale word” and with his “Faith & Reason; and his Friendship with Jesus Christ “!! RIP,
Pope Benedict XIV, you will be missed!
He was one of the best Pope.
Well, in any case, it’s a good day for heaven. He was great.
We believe that death is not the end…🙏❤️🕊
Thank you, great video!
Christianity is not an ideology or philosophy. It is rather a relationship with a person, Jesus Christ the Lord. So true! So profound!
On question I would have liked to ask Bishop Barron...
Do you think Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI will become a Saint? (I do)
God bless our beautiful Catholic Church! ⛪️
This talks is just great! Thank you very much.
“On pain of excommunication you are not to talk to the police or anyone else. Investigations should be handled in the most secretive way restrained by perpetual silence”. Joseph Ratzinger - Prefect of the Congregation for the Doctrine of Faith message to cardinals and bishops.
Dios bendiga el obispo Robert Barron, it may be too hard sometimes to fight for others and I am so grateful people like you.
He was a very gentle and kind man but one can hardly praise His resignation from the papal office as an example to follow for other hierarchs.
What a wonderful lady,GOD bless you yes I will pray for u.🙏🙏🙏❤
Protection against the attempt to abolish the TLM: One of the greatest gifts he gave us! We're so lost now, without our Pope!
Magnificent Pope.
Yay TY
Love and go on loving, until you reach an old age and die, what is there to look for, but someone later will see that you have a strength to endure , they will see something.. (everybody wants to love and be loved!!)
We were blessed to see and relish the reign of two Popes
I wish Bishop Barron would comment on the particulars of the liturgy that were dear to Benedict, such as ad orientem
A great man and giant theologian par excellence...please read his Jesus of Nazareth series...phenomenal. ❤🙏
Thanks to God for his life
We need to thank Pope Paul VI for making him Archbishop of Munich and a Cardinal. If he hadn't, Fr Ratzinger [as he then was] would have remained a university professor at Regensburg and would probably have been unknown outside of Germany.
Thanks be to God for these great intellects. Friendship with Jesus
Is what Christianity is all about!
The more I hear the more I’m sad he’s gone. May he better intercede for us in Heaven.
“Be not afraid” JP2
“Follow Me” B16
“Yes” EMTD
He will be declared a Doctor of the Church.
Perhaps the next Word on Fire classic should be one of Ratzinger/Benedict XVI's books?
A genius and brilliant Theologian.
Thank you for creating this book on Pope Benedict. Will purchase. Glad I watched the entire video. Happy New Year!!
May he RIP. Thx.
He has changed the course of the Christian faith in the Roman Catholic Church in is Brilliant, thank God for Pope Emeritus Benedict XVI 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻😇❤️
Thank you
RIP
Everything begins and ends with Jesus, the God-Man; God becoming Man and bringing man to God.
Mary Kochan would’ve loved this. God bless you all!
