I was a yard jockey at ESTSE EXPRESS LINE for almost 6 years. I was at the Norfolk VA 003 location. It's actually in Chesapeake VA. I can't remember how long ago but they built a new terminal maybe 20years or so and moved from Norfolk to Chesapeake but it's still known and listed as the Norfolk terminal. I actually loved that job. We actually hooked all the doubles up so the drivers didn't have to touch them other than hooking up to lead
Just found your channel and loving it!
I basically had an early retirement about 6 years ago due to a health condition. I had a dedicated run with a US Mail contractor and just loved it! All drop and hook. I would do an overnight in a sleeper truck twice a week.
Watching your channel puts me back on the road which I really miss. Thanks for taking the time and all the work involved with producing these videos. I’m going to keep up with the new ones plus go back to the beginning and watch them all.
I driven over the road many years over million miles and I still drive but now I'm doing relay which means I'm home every night probably like y'all best thing I've ever had for the job
Thank you for all your service in helping move America!! I agree, it’s nice to drive and be home daily when possible. Enjoy the best hear ahead of you Raymond!!
I agree best gig ive ever had
Thanks for trucking man
@@TheTulsaTrucker my name is Shaun I like your UA-cam channel
I was extra board at Big E . Enjoyed being left alone to drive slow trucks. Central dispatch was real fair especially HENRY. GOOD DUDE
I've been driving over 40 yrs and I learned something new watching your video. Never saw wiggle wagons being rigged together. Take care be safe out there.
Thank you for your service Gregg!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker your welcome.
Thank you sir for the ride along. I was finally able to see how doubles are connected. Thank you once again.
Awesome video man!
I'm currently trying to get my Class A so I can go from the yard at ABF onto a line haul driver.
I already have the hooking and everything down since its either hooking or bumping the dock out in the yard.
Now I just need to get my Class A.
I drove straight trucks for about 19 years before recently starting with ABF.
I think I'm going to really enjoy line haul driving!
Best truck driving video I have ever watch, thank you so much and be safe out there.
👊🏻
So……I’m applying with the Loxley, AL terminal. I was going to UA-cam to see videos exactly like yours to give me an idea of day in and day out with the company and as soon as I heard your voice I knew it was a sign of good things. I was like holy crap it’s Chuck!! My favorite corvette UA-camr!! Thank you again for your content brother.
😂. That’s Awesome!! Estes is a great company. Keep me updated on your progress!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker will do brother.
Nice. I'm doing Yard Jockey in Mobile checking out other jobs.
It was amazing to see things like that cuz I'm trying to go to school for truck driving so I wanna learn everything I can.
A local LTL company can train you while you earn. Stick to a local in-town route untill you get some experience with the company & are comfortable driving. I speak from experience.
I work for Estes if you get a job at any terminal they will pay you to get your CDL and you can attend there school I just got my CDL through Estes 10/10 recommend..
Get Busy
Thanks, your videos are very helpful!! Just starting out and will be running doubles!!
I love how ur doing ur videos , it truly gives outsider a great idea on what we do 😎. Stay safe driver
Thanks Alan, LTL is something you don’t see much of on YT and I’m trying to share what’s it’s like to work in this industry. Thanks for stopping by and be safe as well Driver!!
cool vid bud. I work as a yard driver and talk to you estes folks daily. good people. keep up the videos my man.
We appreciate yard drivers. You guys definitely earn your money!! 👊🏻
I drove doubles for a year or so, towards the end. I was able to get the con gear under the 2nd trailer from any position in the yard.
never ran doubles...often wondered what the hook up process consisted of. your videos are made well. nice work!
That was interesting great video, Thanks Chuck!!
Thought I would share a little of that side of the Company. Thanks as always Mike. Have a great Labor Day sir!!
Great content Chuck!
I appreciate that Joseph!!
i work for a company that has lots of the truck companies come in with their trailers and i got to say with the estes ones i like that they have that bar in the front so we know we wont tip forward in the trailer lol. one thing i dont like about them is that the doors need lubed lol. but i like that there is that angel iron in the back to help open the door.
I always see these trucks down by Indiana/Illinois. Great video boss
I’ve done mini hub runs with Overnite many times, brings back old memories!
My dad worked for overnite and then went to ups freight when they bought them out and retired in 2019 before T-Force bought them out and screwed everyone
Disregard my previous comment, I wasn't aware you were doing doubles! I've never seen the process IRL of getting a double trailer together. That's interesting.
Yup, I do that every night. 730 miles. But we do 53” with 37 combos sometimes the tail will be a 28footer.
Linehaul 😎 I’m learning, I’m nervous at the same time . Thank you for the video 🙏🏾
😆 I'm learning to double clutch so I can have a leg up on everyone when I go to take truck driving classes.
Learn to float the gears. It's easy to do, and won't give you a sore leg.
@@markbremmer8642 That's also how you fail the class. Now if I can get lucky to find a school that has an instructor that could care less if you float the box then I'd be sitting pretty because I can float one halfway decent after only an hour of making laps around the block at work.
@@SOU6900 that's for after the class then. Once you have passed and are employed with someone.
Awesome video. Hope you have good Labor Day!
Thank you Benji the same to you my friend
Hello from Richmond, VA the Estes Express HQ!
Really awesome video. Be safe out there
Thanks Tyler!!
It amazes me everythime i see those primitve pintle hitches. Did really no one ever came up with the idea of an automatic coupler for drawbar trailers and dollies? Like the Ringfeder ones the europeans and aussies are using since ages.
My brother works for Estes, off the 55, good to see
On Canadian super "B" trains (doubles), there is no dolly needed to pull the second trailer. The back of the front trailer has an extended 5th wheel integral to it's back end with tandem wheels to attach the second trailer.
I used to Jockey Trailers at a place in northern Wisconsin and saw one of those setups.
Getting my CDL A next month, loved the video!! Stay safe out there...
Lots of possibilities once you get your CDL and get that 1 year experience.
@@TheTulsaTrucker Yes sir that is what I am being told by everyone I speak to
I'm at switcher AKA yard jockey at fedex and i'm getting my cdl I have been really enjoying your videos keep it up man!
That’s Awesome, I’m glad they have been helpful to you. Much success
I just came out of p&d to do xtra board out of 040 Savannah GA. jealous of that asphalt and wide open space you have to hook a set. 🤣🤣
😂😂. Yea, some of ours terminals asphalt is a much needed upgrade. I have been to several yards while doing XB and they can be the challenge for sure!! Much success out there Tony!!
Thank you for teaching
What a great video, never seen that done before. I am in the process of getting my CDL and the life isn't always glamorous but it can definitely be fun. God bless 🙌 🙏 ❤
Trucking is very rewarding if you can find the right place for you.
@@TheTulsaTrucker thankfully the gentleman who is teaching me will be the one I'm going to work for
So every time you get a different dolly or when you meet and get the other persons trailers do you have to put the pre-trip in on your E logs? And possibly post trip for trailers your unhooking?
We do log we used the trailer and dolly but not as an actual Pre-trip like on the tractor. We log it in a DVR and let dispatch know of any issues.
I've done LTL, P&D, Regional, OTR. And I'm going at it
I just came across this channel and subscribed I really enjoyed the video thank you🙂
I appreciate that Larry, welcome to the channel sir!!
@@TheTulsaTrucker 🙂👍
Nice video, I don't know if you feel happy with the pay vs the potential danger from the job, but everyday seems to be a journey, quite interesting!
There are allot of dangers but you just have to do things as safely as you can. The pay is definitely worth it.
Hey there buddy, just wanted to say your videos rock man and thank you for showing us how it's done. In your future video, could you explain or show how you deal with paperwork at the dock and how you decide which trailers are to be placed first and last. I am actually joining Estes for the line haul soon and it would be great to see how truckers like you do it. I know its funny to ask but I am a rookie and would love to learn. Hope you don't mind bro :) :)
How can I get cdl
I broker with ESTES. They set me up with a 53’ and pup the other day to run 500+ plus up to the Canadian boarder. Not that easy hooking up a 53’ by yourself.
Good vid.!👍
My terminal really dropped the ball on me, I think. Put me with a P&D driver for two weeks then sent me out on my own doing hub runs with no linehaul training whatsoever. I'm supposed to start extraboard tomorrow and still feel like I have no idea what I'm doing 😖
Find a yard dawg and ride around with him for a few when they’re doing linehaul hooks at night
When I got started I just pulled the terminal I was headed to up in google maps and looked at how the yard was later out. If so seen a bunch of sets then that yard wants you to drop them. If you get to a terminal and it’s up just run inside and ask them how they want you to handle the set. Once you have been to a terminal once you will remember their process. You will hit allot of the same terminals over and over so you catch on quick. The small terminals or end of the line terminals you just drop the set and call central to see what’s next if you haven’t been preplanned on the linehaul dashboard which you can view on your phone. If you need any questions answered just e-mail me Assurance2131@gmail.com
Do you guys use chains if so were do you keep them?
Almost went to work for Estes in Sharonville Ohio back in '06, got my HAZMAT and double and triples endorsements, but went to work for a U.S. Mail contractor instead.
The money was outstanding, I was home every day even though I was doing close to 600 miles per day.
Unfortunately, that job only lasted four years, so I would have been better off if I had went to Estes.
Estes is a great company very laid back definitely enjoy driving here.
I went to work for Estes in August of '06 as a city driver. Five of us were put on call at the end of November. We were brought back full time at the end of February. Terminal managers discretion as to who was put on call. Dock guys to yard jockey, yard jockey to driving, driver was to hold their position. Our TM decided seniority ruled so new drivers were bumped by the newly positioned drivers. '07 was the same way, we just had more guys ahead of us. I left Mmarch of '08 due to this. I liked the company overall. I was in Indianapolis at the old terminal.
He never check his fifth wheel to make sure they were hooked but check tires and lights . Wow check fifth wheel drivers don't want drop trailer
Interesting dolly work. 👌 We deal with B trains up in Canada...no dolly. But we have long combination A trains with 53s , but I never watched how they set them up.
Very interesting. When you’re covering a route, is that like overtime for you or do they adjust your schedule?
When I run LH I get paid by the mile when I work in the city it’s by the hour.
@@TheTulsaTrucker Do you get payed for the time to back the trailer into the dock at the end of the day? on lH
@@deek431 im sure he does backing is apart of the work he has to do so he most likely on the clock i think
@@TheTulsaTrucker How is work life balance with Estes? I know you guys make decent money but do they just work the dogshit out of you or
@@zachz699 I work 7-5 now that I have been here a year. New drivers normally do 9-10 start times and go until the bulk work is done. Once you have a route it’s not bad at all.
I used to be a linehaul driver at Roadway Express out of stroudsburg Pa
Thank you Allan for all your hard work and time moving America.
I like the video. It was awesome
Thanks Chuck for making these videos now I can show my wife exactly what I do on a nightly basis as a Jockey lol who by the way is officially a driver trainee
Congrats, Where are you? I begin my 1st day on Monday the 24 in KCKS. Dock to driver. I guess that’s what you did too? How long was the process if that is what you did
UA-cam actually recommended me a good channel this time
😂. Much appreciated Scuba.Joe 😂
Was on the 210 run for Estes for a while
Awesome video!

Awesome video keep up with a great work and be safe out there 👍😀
Thank you BF18
@@TheTulsaTrucker your very welcome sir
I'm a trucker from Rolla. I think I saw my truck near the end of the video. That's so crazy.
Small world
Hey Chuck, I never thought of it before, but are dollies plated as a trailer (is there a license plate and registration on a dolly?)
They have a vin number but not plated
Good video!
Thank you!
This is satisfying
Thanks JW for stopping by!!
Hey fan u did a video when u was training at prime and u did a video on how to move the drop pin on google map and then u put it latitude and longitude on ur garmin gps but I was wondering how to use that method if u could show me thnx
Loved the video. I retired from yellow freight an bought my own truck. Just relaxing an doing my own thing when I want to. But I am very very surprised that Rob Estes allows filming of his equipment on social media. It opens a pandoars 📦. Take care an besafe trailer trucking hero.
Webb Estes is brining the company into the future.
Hey I am a rookie & just got hired on for linehaul . Yrc/ Holland. How was your experience? What should I expect? & if you don’t mind, how was your ending pay? Is the seniority worth it?
@@realnickbryant Back in the 90s it was awesome. But things change and so did the company. STAY THERE . Great benefits . Great insurance. With all union jobs it take seniority. Seniority prevails so you gotta do your time. Stick with it. Never get discouraged. Save save invest invest.
Great pre trip inspection ( have any flats or wrong seals )
Haven’t had any issues
@@TheTulsaTrucker just lucky ... so far !
Let’s run!!!
Definitely
Good Video Chuck How About some road footage ?
Definitely next time!
I'm thinking about adding doubles/triples to my CLP when I go to renew it next month.
Definitely doesn’t hurt to have any endorsements you can get.
Definitely doesn’t hurt to have any endorsements you can get.
@@TheTulsaTrucker That's why I took the extra time and got my tanker endorsement. Let's me sneak out of the warehouse and get some experience with my dad driving his bulk tanker.
@@SOU6900 Add hazmat as well. It's a necessary if\when you go LTL.
@@markbremmer8642 I was thinking more along the lines of OTR. Seeing first hand what my dad has to deal with to renew his hazmat and shit makes me want to try and avoid hazmat if I can.
I'm looking into trucking and there's an estes depo nit fsr from me, I got to thinking, does estes make you back doubles into a dock?
I just got hired onto estes and they put me into P&D but wasn't digging it (only been working this week and training) but love to drive more so I asked to switch to linehaul and they allowed me to. Seems like I'll like this more haha. I was gonna make 28.60 an hour for P&D but I heard linehaul you make more
Definitely make more, line haul is much more laid back. Welcome to Estes
@@TheTulsaTrucker But driving only evening/night shifts - 8 to 10 hours 5 days a week, that must take a toll on you ?
Hello neighbor. Tulsa yard there I believe? Currently running Wichita linehaul myself. Sometimes the nights get longer than expected.
Yes sir, the XB is the way to go in LH, no crazy hurry to get out and back to terminal 😁. Stay safe out there driver!! Thanks for stopping by the Channel.
I have a cup for my sunflower seeds also 😀
Got to have them seeds for long trips 😁
Just curious how much did you make on that run.
Hey Chuck, how good are you at backing up dolly behind a trailer? I know you’ve showed us footage of your colleagues doing it. The first time I ever did it, it took me 35 minutes to get it hooked. It doesn’t take me that long anymore but I wouldn’t call myself good at it, I’m just okay at it, but I try to practice whenever I can.
I practice if I have time. Definitely haven’t mastered it. For myself I just find it way faster to do it the old fashion way. No super trucker here. 😂🤣
Just remember that extra pivot point means you turn it left to go left and it walks faster than you'd think so small adjustments is all you. And if you can get lined up for the most part before backing its not to difficult. Now doing it at night with only one yard light, that makes it fun but we get r done.
@@scottkelly7172 But driving only evening/night shifts - 8 to 10 hours 5 days a week, that must take a toll on you ?

Not all but most
Your camera is very clear good shot good view
Much appreciated thanks for stopping by the Channel!!
Wow that all you do for living I hava a cdl I need to go LTL dobles and triples soon.
Best kept secret in trucking 😁
great video sir
Chuck question for you do you have to pay out-of-pocket for the fill up the gas tank or is the company's job to fill the gas tank up
Company takes care of all expenses
You have 3 screen so what screen do you follow
Chuck you do make it look easy and fun..???
I know you get all kinds of vitamin d with all that sun beaming in through that back window
That’s how us LTL brothers roll. 😂😂. Enjoy that riding solo much deserved
Just became a fan
Welcome to the channel, glad to have you Chris!
Why aren't trailers equipped with reverse lights in the United States?
Hey, Doug again. I start Monday 2am to noon on the dock and driving school down the road. All trucks are auto? Do you know, are most LTL companies auto or atleast moving to auto?
Our fleet is 70-30 auto shift
Similar to what we do at XPO
Was this at Wichita Kansas?
I always thought you weren’t allowed to run dauls tires tractor with pup trailer
Dot better not see you hammering them tires lol
Sick, did you ask the tm if it was cool and he said yes? I wanna do this for OD lol
I got permission from TM and Saftey
@@TheTulsaTrucker dude awesome! I drive line out of Portland OR for OD stay safe out there!
You have an aluminum Dolly much lighter than the steel ones.
Do you have Haz mat?
Those are steel dollies. Just balanced good.
@@markbremmer8642
I looked again its stamped steel thats why there light.
There not like are dollys they are cars steel and heavy as hell. There is know way no matter how well balanced they are you would man handle are dolly like that with out leaving your Nutz in your socks.
CRS Steel
Man I miss ltl linehaul. Might need to get back into it. This o/p life ain't all that
You are not the only person to have said almost the same thing. Come on back driver 😁
It’s not for everyone
Haii,Yang Dibawah Box Itu Untuk Apa Ya?
With the technology we have today you would think they could come up with a wifi backup camera for trailers
I’ve never bothered backing a dolly like that; just get it somewhat close and walk it in place and grab the lead
Hey do work the dock also? Or is the route all you do for the day?
Line haul doesn’t do any dock work at estes unless you are a hub driver.
@@TheTulsaTrucker ok great!!! thanks for the response!
Nice video 👍🏻👋🏻🚛
Thank you Marcos!!
Is it the same procedure for roadtrains?
If you are talking about triples, yes.
Is it to pull the two trailers like that.
Yes, the dolly is used to connect both the trailers.
Awesome video. In my Construction Company, we use a Wheel Loader to push the Dolly underneath the trailer. We used to have a Truck Tractor, however the transmission got chewed up.
That would definitely do the job. Thanks for stopping by the Channel!!
What time does your shift start?
7:00 am when doing P&D 8:00 pm if doing line haul.
Which gps is the most accurate and precise any tips anyone? Thnx
I have found allot I’d success with the Garmin OTR series
Respect I just start working at this company
Welcome to the Estes Family!!
Actually loved running line for RAC out of Grand Junction to Denver over the mountain pass's for 10years. Didn't mind even throwing the iron in the winter
Much respect to those drivers up north. Thank you for your service in helping move America.
C'mon Chuck, if you're a experienced driver, you should be able to hook up the con gear to the rear box already hooked up to your lead box. Only have to handle it once.
No supper trucker here. I leave that to you guys 😂😂
