  • The Southern Alps Long Skinny Array (SALSA) project is using a llne of 50 seismometers spaced 10km apart along about 500kms of the Alpine Fault.
The seismometers detect background seismic noise and the data will be used to find out how a large Alpine Fault earthquake will be felt in different parts of New Zealand. This research will help New Zealand to build resilience for when the next big Alpine Fault earthquake occurs.
In this video we fly up to meet Carmen Garfias and Finn Illsley-Kemp where they have installed one of the seismometers for the project.
