Nicely done, both the video, planking and explanation. Thank you.

It's me again. If that's a first attempt it's brilliant work. I have been watching 'Sampson Boat Co' on UA-cam and that work is being done by a professional. Really Tally Ho is a total rebuild not a repair, your work must be more difficult at times especially as you are a novice. Your lucky to have such experienced help and your wife is wonderful. Thanks for the update. I look forward to the next video when you have the time. One last thing. How on earth have you got so much done so quickly ? All the best to you both.

Thank you JP for letting us know that you enjoy our video's, believe me it helps. We love the fact that we can add something positive in the lives of others but want you to know that we gain so much inspiration and encourgment in return.
We will soon start much more regular updates, in fact, tell our story from the beginning but at the moment we have to focus on getting Josefine finished before we run out of steam, our motivation is the age old one of survival!
Thanks again for your encouragement. Reg & Randie.

When you get a chance you must read Desperate Voyage by Ann Davison. On second thought, perhaps wait until you’ve successfully completed your project. You’re travelling a well trodden path.

Thanks for the suggestion Peter, I am a life long book collector and we have a very nice library on Josefine, always space for a few more! Thanks for following.

Coming along nicely. Just recently found your channel, and have been catching up. Is there a reason you don't put cotton around the nail heads as you drive in the deck nails to help make sure they don't leak in the future? I see that done on other wooden boat channels, at least around hull planks. Is it considered not needed on a deck?

Hi, we are no experts, just learning fast from our fantastic shipwrights but I understand from them that in new or sound wood, it is not normal or required to put cotton or as in our case, Oakhum, under the head of the spikes but it is a good idea and we have done it in places on our hull where refastening in a hole damaged or enlarged which often happens when extracting the old fixing. It depends on how bad the damage is. If too bad then it needs plugging and refastening alongside the old.

Hey have a few questions hope you can help 😊
Planning to put solid wood on a project the wood will be installed on flat fiberglass flooring.
    200sqm outside
112 sqm inside the boat + 60sqm celling
I'm in the Philippines so wood option is
    Acacia
    Mahogony
    Iron wood
Which one is better by order?
What thickness should I use for each area ?
Should I just glue it with epoxy or any other suggestions?
Thanks my friend hope you can help 😊

🙂 I inherited it from my father, he could be a bit extravagant sometimes and bought it in 1961 for diving, no idea how he got it past my mother!

Thank you. Glad you enjoyed it. Early next year, we will begin weekly videos that will catalogue our experience restoring Josefine, from the beginning and hopefully will then continue documenting our experience exploring the northern hemisphere in her! We hope you will enjoy following us.

It’s good to see that the snape of the plank is being joggled into the margin when it’s length exceeds its width x two. So many decks these days are being improperly laid, well done !

Very informative and entertaining. The closing remark about painful body parts brought laughter, reminding me of laying flooring in a house we’d just bought. In the midst of the work I needed knee surgery. The orthopedic sturgeon (pun intended) said to do no kneeling, not even on soft furniture. I redeveloped my ability to hold one arm plank position for extended durations…and also destroy a pillow as I flagged.

I just stumbled over your channel, and it made my day! I love the project, the filming and the persons in it. It is admirable to see 'grown ups' take on such a big project, and I applaud the progress and result so far! I've done similar work on a Norwegian Pilot Cutter, and can relate to the ups and downs.. Keep at it - I will follow with joy and interest! Cheers from up North.

What was the programme you used to visualise the plank layout?

    • @SailingWood
      @SailingWood  3 роки тому

      Hi Annas.
I use Apple's ‘Final cut studio' for video editing and ‘Motion’ for most of the graphics and animation. I use Apples 'Designer' and 'photo' for more complex graphics.
If you are interested in 3D animation I would recommend 'Blender', it is free but is very complex and has a very steep learning curve. Hope this helps. Reg.
