Hello thanks for the video.
Two questions:
1. Is the washer same as that one on oil drain plug? How much torque is specified?
2. Does this apply to sedan 1.5 T MT model? Though I believe they should be similar
I havent replaced the washer yet so im unsure if it's the same. I have to do my flush again since im at 56k miles already. But im sure they're probably the same. And unfortunately im unsure of torque specs.
The Si is a 1.5t so the base model civics should be similar transmission type. However, i believe the fluid type may be different. Double check your owner's manual.
Modfyd GARAGE thanks. I did more research and would like you to add these info to your description so that more people can be informed!
1. The fill/drain bolts are both 3/8’’. Fill bolt needs >13” extension to be reached and there’s no need to dissemble air box.
2. The drain bolt has a washer that should be replaced every time. It is special 20mm size NOT as the one in the oil pan! Torque is 32 lb ft. I didn’t find a reliable supplier from Amazon, so better buy one from local dealership ($3.15 here).
3. For average owners, Honda MTF is the top1 choice since it’s genuine.
Zixu Tao why is there no need to disassemble the air box ?
@@totljag1 the fill plug can be accessed without taking it out. I took it off for ease of making the video.
Modfyd GARAGE does that oil also lubricant the front end differential or is that separate ?
This is a great video! All the info required and demonstrated what to do and not to do. Thanks for the quick tutorial, just made my job a hell of a lot easier! Keep them coming when you can.
Thanks for sharing your experience with Amsoil in your manual transmission.
awesome! will try it this weekend.
Best video on this I have found
This video is solid, thanks for sharing I’m eager to do an amsoil change even with 25k miles
Same. Did you end up doing it at that mileage?
Thank you I was reading about changing out the MT fluids and looking for a vid on how to get it done thanks for the help!
Glad it helped. Please subscribe. Im editing the next video as we speak!😈
I like this dude!
Thanks again for the video I did replace mine today with 49k and it was black as hell. Replaced it with royal purple since they had it on store and the difference with amsoil was just 2 bucks and had to be delivered. I mistakenly disconnected MAF and had a check engine for a minute.
Great video👍
this is very detailed and easy to follow video, thank you brother
nice video! I don't have a manual but it was fun watching
Thx. I appreciate the feedback! Ive got a good video coming soon!🤫
I have a 2018 Civic lx with a manual trans, should I follow the same steps or is it a different transmission?
Can anyone explain what notchy transmission is? Is it when you try to let go the clutch and feel gears engaging? Thanks for the vid.
Pretty good video.
Dear it’s disturbing me a lot if I remove there is any problem ? I mean down side silver plate who is covering Engine from downside
did this help with shifting at all? any noticeable differences???
Can you do a coolant flush ?
Thanks for the video. Know where I can find one for the 11th Gen Si?
Hey man, awesome video! I had a question about where you put your jack stands, on my 2018 I got these stupid plastic pieces right beside the jack points so you can’t put the jack stands besides where your jacking the car up, is there a way to remove the plastic pieces?
Was like this ever since I bought it OMG, got a link on exhaust?
I'm assuming this will work with my 19 sport manual also? How many quarts of it do I need? I see you put two in but not sure if there was any editing done. And how do you like the amsoil synchromesh as opposed to honda genuine?
Update: 2 Quarts is all you need, glad I went with Amsoil, it's super smooth shifting!
Thanks for the helpful video. My 2019 Si 2nd gear feels weird/stiffer in colder weather(20F or below). Apparently it's a well known issue within the Honda community, they called it "2nd gear grind" mine it's more like a clicking sound. Would you recommend replacing the transmission fluid with the AMSOIL Syncromesh? My Si currently has almost 6k miles. Thanks!
I'd definitely recommend trying a different viscosity oil if you live in lower temp locations. I'm not sure EXACTLY what viscosity to offer, but the difference in just changing the oil was dramatic. Very noticeable!
With Amsoil, the gear shifts still feel notchy during the warm up period but relatively a lot smoother compared to Honda MTF or Redline. Def recommend the Amsoil
How’s the trans holdin up buddy 😂
What size crush washer?
Wondering if this will work on my 2019 6 speed manual civic sedan. The dealer wants 175 for this job andbit just seems too simple that it shouldn't be that expensive. Any help pls lol
Should be similar. Double check your manual for fluid type. The fluid should be approximately $45 total.
Is the amsoil still functioning well? Also, what is the general ambient temperature where you are, so I can gauge if it's similar climate to my location. Thanks!
Yes perfectly. Im already due for another change 30k later. Im in California USA between 60-80* F
can you please show me level plug/ full plug
Thanks man
Youre very welcome
Thanks, I was considering going to Amsoil for the manual transmission on my SI as well, already got Amsoil in the engine, it quieted it down when puttering around in first gear... I want to make this car last, though it would be a miracle if it makes it to almost 300,000 miles like my Integra GSR
High hopes for 300k. But im sure very few people, if any have made it past 200k thus far.
Honestly, Amsoil Synchromesh has worked the best in my '09 Si. I prior had tried Honda MTF, Redline, Liqui-Moly, and Honda Improved MTF, but Amsoil gave the smoothest shifts esp in cold weather.
What year is your SI
@@mattf2535 how did the Redline compare to OEM? I mainly have notchy shifting in hot weather so I'm looking for something that can stand up to a lot of heat.
What type of impact drill did you use? I am going through this right now and those bolts are tight as hell. Thanks
You probably shouldnt use impacts. BUT, i have a snap-on and Dewalt impact that Ive been accustom to.
Awesome video! I have a 2018 Honda civic hatchback sport, manual transmission. Am i able to use this same transmission oil?
If it were my car, I would!
@@modfydgarage2312 Do you know where I can get a drain plug washer? And is this the best transmission oil for Honda? I noticed there's other brands of transmission oils
@@alee0294 its just one of many that people prefer to use for oil. Its really preference to be honest. I use it in all my manual trans cars. I have 5.
@@modfydgarage2312 thanks for your insight 🙏 I want to do this service myself because the dealer charges 130 bucks and the oil is only 35 bucks. Can you recommend me some affordable tools needed for this service?
Anyone have a link to the splash shield? I just bought a 10th gen and saw it didnt have one
Dealer only item. Unless you find one on Ebay.
Since the front end is jacked up and the car isn’t level, did you get all the oil out of transmission???
Youll never get 100% oil out.
Can i use hcf-2 transmission fluid for civic 2016 Lx manual ?
You'll be ok with it. It covers all the Honda brand. We don't have specialty transmissions like exotic cars do.
Will the 3/8 fit the fill plug or just use the adapter for the socket ?
3/8" ratchet fits but extention socket allows you to reach it without removing intake or other components as I did, which I did to show you guys where it was.
how hard is it to remove the FILL bolt if you do not remove the air filter?
Very Easy. The intake was removed for sake of the video.
7:22 Is the splashguard necessary can you just take it off and leave it off?
The splash guard does help prevent some amount of drag which in turn helps your gas mileage. Whether or not it's measurable, I can't say. And it does serve the function of a physical layer of protection of the underside of your motor.
There is also a check plug on the bottom to inspect if there is metal debri within the transmission would be cool to check out aswell
the level check plug is tiny. would be hard to inspect anything through that hole unless you had a camera that would fit inside
thanks!
Hello would this be the same for my 2018 Honda Civic LX sedan it's manual transmission?
Michael Mason they are different transmissions so they are probably slightly different. However the process and locations are more than likely identical.
@@modfydgarage2312 okay thanks
I have the same car as you with the manual transmission. I need to do this on my car, it has over 90K miles and I’ve never changed it.
Straight to the point! Will this also work for a 2019 Si?
Yes it will!
Modfyd GARAGE sweet! This is my first car and manual transmission I’ve driven and it’s been a blast riding it!
More fun to come! Subscribe and join the brotherhood!
7:22 is the splashguard necessary or can you just take it off and leave it off?
It covers the drain bolt. So it is required to remove.
@@modfydgarage2312 ok thanks, but I was wondering if I could just leave it off for good? I have a civic (2020 ext) that I hit one of those parking spot bumpers with, I now see that it sheered off the screws that are holding the splash guard up properly and I am wondering if I can just remove it and do without it?
I WAS WONDERING ABOUT THE TRANSMISSION FILTER, DO YOU NEED TO REPLACE THAT AS WELL, IF SO HOW?
This is for manual transmission only. The automatics are the only transmissions with filters.
So just 2 quarts is enough? 🤔
Good video. Wonder if my fk8 gearbox same with the Si.
Transmission sits the same. So id be leaning on the fact that its similar.
Modfyd GARAGE ok thanks
I purchased AMSOIL directly from them for $32.30 for 2 quarts plus shipping. BTW, is there a reason that you jacked up the car before removing the intake?
As i said in the video, you DON'T need to remove the intake. I did it merely to show where the fill plug is at with the camera easier.
@@modfydgarage2312 Hi, I understood that part. I was just wondering why you jacked up the car to do it.
@@Scottmd714 because the car is too low?🤔 I don't understand your question. How else would you get to the drain plug?
@@modfydgarage2312 First of all, thanks for the video, it will help when I change mine next week. I was specifically asking about raising the vehicle before removing the intake (since it's in the engine compartment of course), instead of after. Of course you need to raise the vehicle to get underneath it.
Oceanside/vista !! 🤘🤘🤘🤘
Good eye!
Why didn’t my 2019 Accord and your SI not have that Magnetic transmission drain plug????? I’m gonna go to Honda and get mine replaced
Probably a lot of non magnetic metals inside.
Modfyd GARAGE my car only had 25k already changed my trans fluid to amsoil
@@Chrispena86 and how does she shift now?
Modfyd GARAGE smooth. So why didn’t our cars come with the magnetic one. Even the video shows he doesn’t have one.
@@Chrispena86 sorry, i didn't engineer the car. But I'm glad to see my video helped you. Id appreciate you subscribing. My next video is going to be awesome! Thx!
Doesn’t you care need to be level? Honest question.
Amsoil is the top notch shit!
Ay bro how’s the car drive with amsoil? I’m bouta get mine done at 28k for 17 si
I did another oil change back to OEM oil and i hate it. I'm switching back to Amsoil ASAP. Im currently at 70k miles.
Modfyd GARAGE right on so performance wise amsoil over oem? Bouta order my oil then
@@sfurq2954 yeah, it's noticeable difference.
Nice drain pan
Thanks for the video. Only thing i disagree with is where you placed your jack. Rigjt on the body it looks like
When your car is lowered, it's impossible to get it jacked up on the frame rails. So the body seams are just as strong. Thanks for watching!
@@modfydgarage2312 you can use the jack that came with the car
@@mikehascats26 the factory jack gets placed in the same location. At the seam of the chasis.
That's a bad ass shirt brotha whered you get it. Its sick hahaha lol 😎😎
I need a new one 😩
You also forgot to mention NOT to use a drill when tightening the bolts cuz you could cross thread them and/or over tighten them
Soo true. No reward without risk however!!😅
good video but make sure the amount of fluid you remove is desame amount in adding. i recommend getting a measuring container for draining.
You live in the Vista area?…I think I’ve seen you around.
Not anymore
Anyone ever try the pennzoil synchromesh??
On other vehicles. But i haven't on a 10th gen.
So amsoil is better than the Honda trans fluid?
Just my honest opinion. Its up to you to try.
@@modfydgarage2312 just asking because every one that does fluid change on the 10 gen uses amsoil.
@@raging_carnut it works well, I have no complaints about it. Seriously a huge difference in shifting after fluid change
@@modfydgarage2312 thanks my man I'm I'll go to it. You just lifted in the front right?
Where can I find amsoil in store or will I have to order it
Always online. Its typically never in store
@@modfydgarage2312 had to order got taxed like a mf but oh well just did the flush yesterday
@@billcivicsff6808 and what are your thoughts now?
@@modfydgarage2312 I do feel a slight deference it does shift smoother all n all good product
That’s weird. The fill hole is straight up. How do you know if it’s full or needs oil?
There is a plug on the side too if youd like to use that for perfect measurement. If it's fulp, it'll leak out that plug.
@@modfydgarage2312 Oh ok. Great. Thanks for that. Where exactly is that side fill hole?
@@BW-kv9wj www.civicx.com/forum/threads/transmission-fluid-change-2017-si.24076/
@@modfydgarage2312 Thank you Sir. Much appreciated.
@@modfydgarage2312 I just changed mine and it started dribbling out of the check hole after about 2 3/4 courts.
You didnt use the overfill plug ?
The 2 quarts works perfectly. Wasn't really necessary to check it. I did a check the first time around with a previous vehicle.
Where exactly is the overfill plug?
@@thatcryptoguy7313 excellent question. On the side of the transmission there is a plug similar to the drain plug that tells the case the limit the oil should be filled to. Now, with that in mind, if the car is NOT level, you can actually overfill it due to the slosh effect if you rely on the plug.
@@modfydgarage2312 thanks man. Very helpful video by the way. 👍🏽👍🏽
isn’t there a level check hole?
no
yes there is, found it, its a small 10mm bolt. that is the proper way to get the right amount of fluid. never guestimate!
Only takes 2 quarts?
Correct
Do you need to change the filter also ??
Only automatic transmissions have filters. Manual transmissions do not have filters.
@@modfydgarage2312 ahh okay thank you for the notice. Just got my si

It says not for Lsds tho🤔
Been working for me great. Anything you suggest? The OEM oil breaks down too quickly.
Dam hope ur LSD holds up
Modfyd GARAGE does the oil for the manual transmission also lubricate the LSD ?
@@totljag1 its supposed to lubricate everything inside the transmission case. The additives change upon the manufacturer based on materials used in the transmission.
Found out that it says its not for Limited Slip Clutch Type Differentials. Our transmissions are Helical Differentials.
This fluid IS MADE for our vehicles.
Never drain your trans without I surfing you can get the fill removed
Wait...what???
Wait...what???
Fat thumbs....... insuring you can get the fill plug removed first

Just took my Type R last monday for this cus they said Its recommended to drain it at 30k and I had just hit 30k Miles lol
If you are going to do a video on "how to" at least do it correctly. Everything you did was kinda, "Mickey Mouse."
