I think the biggest reason could be if your fighting someone on the ground they may try and grab ahold of the badge as a grip and doing that will bend the pin and rip it off and it’ll be damaged.
I felt the same way, I liked the idea of a metal badge I think they look so much better than a patch. However, after doing the job for several years, I can see why agencies are moving away from them. I had a coworker forcefully reach across my chest to aid me in detaining someone. He accidentally clipped my badge cutting the outside of his palm nearest to his pinky, nothing serious but still. I could recall several metal badge stories, but ultimately I decided to go full sowed on.
most police department wear the tradionalll dark bule shirt and pants and of course state trooper and sheriff department uniforms are different of course but most police department city that is wear the tradnitional blue uniform
Probably to hide dirt marks during a POs shift; they start out clean but by the end of the day they have encountered so many things that they are probably finding the tan pants look dirty.
I could attest to that, I swear when I wear black work pants, I could feel the sun's rays directly on my skin as if I wasn't wearing pants, followed by the pants acting like an oven on my legs

Can you imagine wearing black clothing in Vegas when it’s 108 degrees? They should be wearing all tan/beige because it doesn’t absorb the sun/heat as much as black - so tan fabric ends up being cooler temperature. Although tan pants probably get very dirty very fast. Fashion tip = try keeping the shirts tan and using brown pants (not black pants). If the brown pants still keep getting too dirty, go darker brown until the dirt problem improves… but avoid black especially in Vegas.
Tan pants during the summer and black during winter is fine, white undershirt during summer and black shirt during winter is fine. Insignia on back is WAAAAAAAYYYYY to big, that’s TOO much “visibility”. If you wanted a lower profile badge, you could have just made it brushed instead of shiny because a brass badge is iconic for metro.

Good change, tan pants get really dirty while doing cop works. Same with the black t-shirt, white t-shirts get dirty around the collar. But I prefer green pants which is a classic law enforcement look for deputy sheriffs.
They are not sheriff deputies, they are police officers. The Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department took over duties from Clark County, including the jail. The head of the police department is the sheriff.

Those vests are very intimidating. It makes them look like they’re fighting a war, rather than patrolling a neighborhood. The police in my area don’t wear them. Instead, their duty belts are minimalistic. They look sharp and approachable, especially to young people. It’s the Pete Malloy and Jim Reed approach.

Some Officers/Deputies do go a bit unhinged and put 20 "taco" pouches with more ammo than a Army Surplus store and have crap flying off left and right the first time they get in a foot pursuit...but the vast majority of "bulk" on most Officers rigs are moving stuff off the hips and onto the rig. Cuffs, tasers, TQ, spare mags...it makes a difference. We arent trying to "look like we are in the military" anymore than a warehouse employee wearing a hardhat is just "looking like he works at a construction site". Its a health and safety PPE issue.

Willing to bet admin dont want to "look militaristic". Speaking for myself as an Officer serving since 2015, I am a BIG fan of my Class A/B uniform with my Sam Browne belt. Showing off my service stripes and my half dozen citation/certification pins stacked above my name makes me feel real proud. Its showing off. But doing the job in it? It SUCKS! Ever since I hit FTO a few years ago and was permitted to start wearing Class C's (polo style shirt, cargo style pants, and outer armor rig), my quality of life and health have vastly improved. My gun-side hip still brused a little bit, but not near as much, and my lower back pain is so reduced thay I hardly notice it until I relax back home after stripping lol. Any agency, department, company, troop, w.e. that ISNT using chest rigs in the 2020's is an agency that hates their frontline Officers and loves destroying their bodies and health needlessly.
