Regardless of speed, lack of attention or any other blame we want to place on the pickup truck, it looks like the 18 wheeler drove out of a yield or stop sign into the path of the pickup. If so the driver of the 18 wheeler has a case to answer.

Defensive driving is more important than your right of way. You have to drive at a speed that you have full control of your vehicle and when you're speeding you have to know how long you're going to be able to make a full stop.
That tractor driver completely rolled that truck through the stop sign. No complete stop. Also, experienced drivers know, the tractor driver's attention was more on the far lanes that they intend to merge into and not the closest lanes that they will cross first in time. I see that tractor driver facing charges.
Was that a three way stop? There is a stop sign right infront of the camera. If it is a three way stop the pickup truck driver blew through the stop sign.
from what i understand publix doesnt hire experienced truck drivers, they start in the distribution centers first then work their way to a driver position. if someone reads this that knows better please reply to this.
⚠️NOT FOR WEAK READERS ⚠️ The truck driver failed to make a full stop at the stop sign and, upon noticing the approaching pickup truck, accelerated with the apparent intent of forcing the pickup truck to yield. This reckless decision not to stop as required directly led to the accident, as the truck driver’s actions obstructed the right of way. The failure to stop at the designated stop sign set off a chain of events that ultimately resulted in the collision.
Unless the pick up had a stop sign or light, it’s the semis fault for pulling out into traffic, whether the pick up as speeding or not. The semi driver should understand that it takes quite some time for a semi to make a turn from a compete stop, especially loaded.
Publix at fault. He wasn't even going fast, Chris probably wasn't paying attention hence why he couldn't stop. But Publix truck wasn't tryna stop for nobody, not even the car prior
Any big rig turning onto a street is at fault they must yield to oncoming traffic being the pickup truck was ON COMING the big rig was completely at fault. It is not the pick up trucks job to yield . Yes it would’ve been ideal but they had the right of way. Why would u yield when u have the right of way. Why would u slow down if u have the right of way and no one was infront until a big rig decided to turn even though they saw the head lights . Why was the big rig in a rush? Most of those trucks have goods so why rush to damage them
Both are to blame that truck driver saw him coming and still threw that big semi into the middle of the road. The video clearly shows a stop sign for the Publix driver as well as the traffic coming from his right side. Is there a stop sign for the traffic coming from the pickup trucks direction of travel?
That Publix truck made a rolling stop while the pick up truck had the right of way. How did he not see those head lights moving that fast towards him??
Have you ever driven at night??? It is impossible to tell distance, let alone speed or lane position by judging headlights off in the distance. Quite blaming 100% on the semi driver. None of us where there
Speed limit on 183rd is 40 mph. The semi driver misjudged the speed of the pickup truck and pulled out. The pickup was estimated to be traveling 55 mph and never made an attempt to brake.
Of course, with the big truck slow rolling, he was expecting it to stop at any moment. It could happen to you. Pay attention to all the vehicles slow rolling towards a stop sign when you are approaching.
Why was the day cab truck removed and a yard truck put under the trailer? The driver was involved in a deadly accident and the truck is part of the evidence.
Looks to me, buddy was trying to get past that light and kept the speed when he needed to slow down. Whichever way he lost his precious life. But it wasn't the front of the Publix truck he hit. It was the trailer, so he could have seen the middle of the truck before impact if he wasn't speeding. It's likely the truck driver was looking in the other direction towards the bus depot to make sure he was clear on that side before continuing. Trucks are like trains. It's not easy to stop that's why both have to be respected when going against a normal vehicle. 😢
This is the best comment! I've been in situation when my "vision" of a truck was compromised due to the back portion. In addition, your view concerning the driver speeding past the light is a reasonable explanation for this tragedy.
I'm not sure how the tractor trailer driver didn't see that pick up truck coming, the video shows the pick up trucks headlights were on INCLUDING one of those LED light bars so the tractor trailer driver should have easily seen that pick up coming and waited.
The idiots on the road today are staggering. They fly up to a red light running at high speeds , knowing they gotta stop because the light already changed to red. It's like they can only see 50 feet in front of them.
It is called failure to stop completely to the right of way. Sorry for the pickup truck driver.😢 Publix will settle as the semi driver is going to be at fault.
This is the Publix truck drivers fault. The pickup truck had the right of way not the trucker. Go to the intersection of NW Miami CT and N 183rd street and youll see that.
At 3 AM, the pickup driver was likely drunk, was obviously speeding and not paying attention, but the Publix driver had a stop sign and pulled out from it into the path of the pickup. Likely very lucrative for the drunk’s family.
You have a responsibility 1005 of the time while driving. Semi Driver expected the oncoming driver to yield as he had a big load. The oncoming driver never braked and was way over the speed limit. Toxicology reports will tell if either driver was under the influence.
Driver,at 3:12 in the morning you don’t have to pull out in front of a speeding vehicle. One ticket goes to Mr.Publix and the other ticket would’ve went to the speed racer, hope it was worth it.
Everyone is quick to throw the pick up under the bus, but what does the side of a semi truck trailer look like in the middle of the night? There’s maybe one light on the side. The driver probably didn’t see it. This is just a crappy tragedy with no winners. The pickup maybe didn’t pay attention when the rig went in front of him but couldn’t see the trailer when he looked up. Everyone says he is speeding but what is the limit, and how much over is he? I don’t know why we can’t just not blame the dead guy for a minute and maybe give him the possibility that he wasn’t at fault.
It’s the trucks fault 100% did not stop on the stop sign complete stop he should be hold accountable for that you’re gonna tell me the high truck didn’t see the car coming come on sad for the family big lawsuit
Why are there no barriers under the trailer? Here in Europe they are manadatory to prevent bicyclists from getting underneath the wheels... this would also reduce the chance that a car could get underneath the trailer and the top from getting cut off..
The driver in the Publix truck is 100% at fault. One, he did not make a complete stop, two, the driver in the pickup truck has the straight away right away, three, the driver in the pickup truck was by NO MEANS traveling at an excessive speed, and even IF he was going over the speed limit, it is the truck drivers responsibility to judge if he has time or not to make a safe turn into oncoming traffic, and he absolutely did NOT, I wouldn’t even have attempted that turn in my Subaru Legacy, let alone an 18 wheeler, truck driver is 100% at fault and unfortunately was responsible for the death of an innocent life that night…
sometime you can be right and also be dead. The laws of physics don't care about who is in the right...just who is heavier. In this case, the 18 wheeler.
Uh, I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that paying attention to what's in front of you and not crashing into objects is also a responsibility of all drivers. Yes the Publix truck made a mistake, but the gray truck was clearly not paying attention.
The full video that is not accesible to the public shows the semi did a full stop when another car crossed that same road. At that point the pickup was not even in sight cause it was a block away travelling 79 mph.
If you guys see the video, the truck is at fault you could clearly see the light coming and my understanding is the pick up truck has the right away. He’s going straight. He is not turning and that semi truck had to stop and wait until it was clear for him to turn.
I believe this is a three way stop. I can clearly see two stop signs. does anyone know? The stop sign in the middle of the screen should have a matching one for the pickup truck.
With someone having absolutely ZERO reaction to a tractor trailer crossing the roadway, you have to wonder if this man was suffering a medical emergency. Honestly that pickup was speeding regardless, I feel like the publix driver saw him in the distance and judged the speed he was going wrong, he prob saw him all the way in the distance and thought he had enough time to complete his turn which technically he did but that pickup never even tried braking at all, sad situation
@@305dadecountyyExactly.

I guess you were in the Publix truck?? Way to assume.
Hope his family doesn't have to watch that
Regardless of speed, lack of attention or any other blame we want to place on the pickup truck, it looks like the 18 wheeler drove out of a yield or stop sign into the path of the pickup. If so the driver of the 18 wheeler has a case to answer.
IMO, this is the Publix truck drivers fault. This is where the Publix distibution whse is located. Hundreds of Publix trucks turn left onto MG Drive every day here. There is no visible obstructions when looking west (left) on M.G. Drive while turning west (left) at NW Miami Court. Regardless of whether the guy in the pick-up was speeding, the Publix driver pulled out when the PU driver had the ROW. This wreck will cost Publix $$$. It will be settled out of court. Publix driver should've immediately been tested for drugs and/or alcohol too.
Publix truck driver seen the first car, so he really wasn't hitting the gas because it's a Stop sign ahead. Once noticed that car was turning in, he sees Clear to the Left now as he's looking right for he knows his left is clear he hits the gas! While F-150 coming from his left at an abnormal rate of speed and not scanning ahead. So sad.
I hear u.... He was supposed to look left again after he looked right... Look left, right, then left again and then proceed. That's what is taught.

The truck driver failed to yield the right of way to the pickup. He failed to ensure he could pull out safely.
The pickup truck was traveling at an unsafe speed and failed to stop.
I don't think think pickup was going at a very high speed at all looked maybe 35 - 40mph tops.
Video gives you a false perception of speed. The mere fact that he went that far under the Publix truck with all that debris flying out indicates he was going much faster than 35 - 40.
@@ronj9933
A full size pickup going 45-55 mph colliding with a fixed object will do a lot of damage. Semi has to yield the r.o.w. there.
Pick was speeding to flatten itself under a semi trailer
@@ronj9933 Call me crazy but I think a crash like this at 60mph+ would look a lot worse. I think he hit him at doing around 40 full on without braking. Also the road is wet too. No way I see the pickup "going at a very high rate of speed".. I've seen plenty crash videos with people actually speeding.
@@ronj9933 If you put this intersection on google maps you can pinpoint the distance the pickup traveled and the time for said distance by comparing scenery.
The pickup drove about 75 meters in 4 seconds corresponding to about 40 miles an hour. The road has 40 MPH signage. The pickup was not speeding.
However if you look at the intersection on street view you can see the semi ran a stop sign and failed to yield to the pickup.
The semi driver was 100% at fault and only he was at fault and caused this death.
Intoxicated. No reaction.
Everyone in the comment section that says the pick up truck was in the wrong, none of you should have a drivers license. The pick up HAD the right of way (even if he was speeding). That semi HAD a stop sign and should of remained stopped. Semi is 100% at fault foe that death
Graveyards are full of people that had the right of way
The speeding makes it much harder to judge if it's safe to cross traffic.
My guy had 5 business days to stop or veer out of the way. Semi driver walks because of bro’s horrible reaction capabilities
Please never drive again 🤦♂️
Defensive driving is more important than your right of way. You have to drive at a speed that you have full control of your vehicle and when you're speeding you have to know how long you're going to be able to make a full stop.
That tractor driver completely rolled that truck through the stop sign. No complete stop. Also, experienced drivers know, the tractor driver's attention was more on the far lanes that they intend to merge into and not the closest lanes that they will cross first in time. I see that tractor driver facing charges.
That semi truck was in the wrong.🤦🏽♂️ Publix about to pay up to the family.💰

Doesn't matter, Publix driver is at fault. Prayers for everyone and their families involved. Also for the first responders to this horrific scene!
If the 18 wheeler would’ve stopped the accident could have been avoided. It was the Publix truck is at fault. That’s a lawsuit right there
Was that a three way stop? There is a stop sign right infront of the camera. If it is a three way stop the pickup truck driver blew through the stop sign.
the stop sign in fron of the camera is for the parking lot. it's a 3 lane road, pickup had no stop sign
from what i understand publix doesnt hire experienced truck drivers, they start in the distribution centers first then work their way to a driver position. if someone reads this that knows better please reply to this.
Wrong
Your an idiot
@@tjjohnson136No. You’re wrong.
Truck drivers need to be more careful. If yall hauling heavy why attempt to proceed?
Most of those trucks have goods so why rush to damage them
Big truck saw little trunk going fast and said I can do that too
In the UK we have bars along the sides of the trucks to prevent this from happening, is this not a requirement in the US?
To prevent vehicles from getting pinned underneath?
Thanks for not blurring it out.
Both are to blame that truck driver saw him coming and still threw that big semi into the middle of the road. The pickup had the right of way, with that said the pickup still should've stopped and not crashed into the semi, obviously. But that truck driver needs to be charged cuz he's just as guilty as the pickup driver
honestly i blame the publix truck to me it looks like he knew what he was doing and blew a stop sign. people in miami are just sick everyone really
So sad but that’s what happen when you drive and drive. 9/10 coming from a club. Sorry for the lost
and speed on any roads , especially wet ones . The Ford made no attemp to slow down like they said.

@305dadecountyy no way the semi could make that left in time, even if the pickup truck was going slower. The pickup truck has the right of way. The semi should have come to complete stop and allow the pickup truck to pass by.

Obviously the semi’s fault - but sometimes people make mistakes. Unfortunately this mistake took someone else’s life - but it’s clear the truck was not paying attention, no brakes. That text or social post was NOT worth it.
The video clearly shows a stop sign for the Publix driver as well as the traffic coming from his right side. Is there a stop sign for the traffic coming from the pickup trucks direction of travel?
The pickup truck has the right of way. The stop sign you see is coming from the Telx parking lot. The speed limit is 40mph.
That Publix truck made a rolling stop while the pick up truck had the right of way. How did he not see those head lights moving that fast towards him??

Speed limit on 183rd is 40 mph. The semi driver misjudged the speed of the pickup truck and pulled out. The pickup was estimated to be traveling 55 mph and never made an attempt to brake.
Of course, with the big truck slow rolling, he was expecting it to stop at any moment. It could happen to you. Pay attention to all the vehicles slow rolling towards a stop sign when you are approaching.
And they'll blame the truck driver
Why was the day cab truck removed and a yard truck put under the trailer? The driver was involved in a deadly accident and the truck is part of the evidence.
Publix is at fault. They put a delivery schedule on the driver that makes them rush to make the deliveries.
The full video which is not accessible to the public tells a different story.
Typical entitled truck driver who thinks traffic should stop so they can take 2 full minutes to make a left
Without speeding the other driver would have still been alive. Also, what's wrong with slowing down for a few seconds to let a truck through?
No matter how fast the truck was going the Semi truck did not fully stop, 100% he will lose his job
I'm not sure how the tractor trailer driver didn't see that pick up truck coming, the video shows the pick up trucks headlights were on INCLUDING one of those LED light bars so the tractor trailer driver should have easily seen that pick up coming and waited.
It takes a football field to stop a semi idiot
Absolutely amazes me that trucks in the US still aren't fitted with side impact bars which have been mandatory here in the UK for decades!
The idiots on the road today are staggering. They fly up to a red light running at high speeds , knowing they gotta stop because the light already changed to red. It's like they can only see 50 feet in front of them.
Feel bad for the first responders having to clean up that red chunky human soup from the road.
Pick up truck at fault,a la eternidad...speeding...!
The comments section has deemed it to be the truck drivers fault combined with elements of the pick up drivers actions. Glad its now been settled.
“Very high speed”? The speed limit there is 40. Maybe the pickup was doing 45? It’s the semi’s fault in my opinion.
Publix is at Fault 💯. RAN THE STOP SIGN. He might face Charges Too. Civil Lawsuit.
Both were at fault. Semi driver failed to do a complete stop and yield to incoming traffic and the pickup truck was speeding in wet conditions.
At 3 AM, the pickup driver was likely drunk, was obviously speeding and not paying attention, but the Publix driver had a stop sign and pulled out from it into the path of the pickup. Likely very lucrative for the drunk’s family.
Distracted driver, someone with poor night vision, or an elderly person who shouldn't be driving anymore?

Never understood why American reporters have to go to the scene of the event hours later just to stand in front of a camera for 10s.
In nyc if your pulling out from anywhere u have to exercise caution or it will be your fault no matter what the drivers on the right of way are doing
Need to sue Publix and the driver of their semi truck.
You have a responsibility 1005 of the time while driving. Semi Driver expected the oncoming driver to yield as he had a big load. The oncoming driver never braked and was way over the speed limit. Toxicology reports will tell if either driver was under the influence.
100%
Is that a 3-way stop sign area? I do not see any traffic lights
It’s the trucks fault 100% did not stop on the stop sign complete stop he should be hold accountable for that you’re gonna tell me the high truck didn’t see the car coming come on sad for the family big lawsuit
We don’t need 3 reporters for a story
The good thing is, that pickup driver won't be trying that again.
Why are there no barriers under the trailer? Here in Europe they are manadatory to prevent bicyclists from getting underneath the wheels... this would also reduce the chance that a car could get underneath the trailer and the top from getting cut off..
In Europe they also had the guillotine at one time.
How did this "driver" not see that pickup coming ??
At that time of the morning , and with all the lights , he damn sure wasn't paying attention.
Perfectly explained.
sometime you can be right and also be dead.
Someone going that fast, you look it's clear, you start the turn and you see him flying at you. Dead .
These are usually the toughest at fault accidents for cops but this video will help.
My mother always says, "If you drive like hell, you'll get there."
Publix semi is at fault, but the news had to somehow make the innocent look guilty.
It looks both drivers were at fault. The pickup had plenty of time to stop or at least slow down.
Wasn't paying attention and lost his head.
I believe this is a three way stop. I can clearly see two stop signs. does anyone know? The stop sign in the middle of the screen should have a matching one for the pickup truck.
Truck driver did the California roll At the stop sign Publix is going to lose
We call it a NY stop here in Fla
I feel sorry for the first responders who had to see what was left of him.
I've been on many calls like this. Usually when it's really foggy.
Is this a 4 way stop intersection? If so, the pick up driver is at fault. If it is a 4 way stop, then the Publix driver is not at fault.
No its a major road with 3 lanes on each side
@ Is there a light there? I keep seeing comments stating there is but I’m not seeing any traffic light. I’m curious. I’m not from the area.
With someone having absolutely ZERO reaction to a tractor trailer crossing the roadway, you have to wonder if this man was suffering a medical emergency. I mean he was driving at a high rate of speed but had ZERO reaction like he didn't even see the trailer as he made his approach. I mean maybe he was DUI of something possibly. But I can't imagine ANYBODY AWAKE who wouldn't at the very least try to slow down before impact.
Just wondering if even making a complete stop would’ve made any difference because the Publix driver decided to go anyway? Doesn’t seem like it.
truck drivers fault period.
