I think the most impressive part of this scene, at least for me, is that I single-handedly went from "please no more Joker, we need a break," to "okay... I wanna see where you take this version." But after that, take a break. Please.

Yeah, THAT’S why the scene was cut. they cut it out as this scene basically spoils the ending of the dynamic of the Riddler AND the joker here. The scene is overall an over explanation of things to come, it’s STILL great tho and a fantastic scene regardless even when it got cut. THAT'S why it's a PERFECT scene as a whole! LOVE this movie as a whole as it’s MASTERPIECE easily!
@@Gadget-Walkmen I personally disagree with that sentiment. I don’t feel it spoils anything but rather is clever foreshadowing. They are giving us two options behind the Riddler’s motives while throwing us off the third option…what if it’s both options (admires Batman/Hates bruce) It’s kinda like Kevin Williamson did with the original scream 1996 (Spoilers below: avoid if you want to watch) Throughout Scream they give us obvious clues that Billy or Stu is one of the killers, however what made that movie so unique was that it ended up being both of them. The audience were fooled because they expected Billy or Stu, but not Billy AND Stu
@@wesstewart2677 it also takes away focus from riddler and showcases there’s a bigger threat that people are more concerned about that isn’t going to be resolved in the movie at all which is of course, the joker.
The scene was too good. The characterization of the joker would have made the audience uninvested on the riddler. Individually it qould have been the greatest scene in the movie but the overall movie would have suffered...
Joker had it all figured it out in seconds! The line “he admires you, or maybe... has a grudge against you” Riddler hated Bruce but admires the Batman 😳 this dialogue is a masterpiece! I cant wait to see more of this Joker!
“Why is he writing to me?” “Maybe he’s a fan of yours? Or maybe he’s got a grudge against you too? Maybe you’re the main course? Any theories?” “Not yet” “Really? You’re normally so ahead of the curve.”
That a DELETED SCENE is more memorable and we'll constructed than most scenes in most superhero films, is indicative of how incredible the team behind this movie was.
@@YeOlGamer you can, the picture on the front of the file has two paperclips going in, one on the side and one on top, and only the one on top remains when the file goes back out.
Honestly, I get why this scene was deleted, and I’d be happy if Joker’s appearance was kept to a few fleeting cameos in this new series. But god damn, did Barry Keoghan fucking kill it in this performance.
Well yeah, he'd have called way too much attention to himself, which would distract from the main antagonist, but still, I've heard that they may be planning a TV series with Barry's joker.
I’m getting major “fell into a vat of acid” vibes for Joker’s look this time. I bet that’s the anniversary he was talking about, maybe Batman even knocked him in like in the comics sometimes. Could be why they both seem to feel a connection to each other here. Hope they go full A Serious House on Serious Earth with it if they continue this continuity.

@@meciocio he said he had a negative reaction to it maybe he jumped into the vat of acid as a suicide attempt while being a criminal and Batman saved him?
I’m surprised nobody is talking about the fact that Joker stole a paper clip from the bundle of papers. Leads me to believe he might have a larger role in the trilogy than I’d hope, since it seems he’s hatching an escape plan.
When I first saw this scene, I thought they were right to cut it. The film is very long, and other than introducing Joker, it doesn't add anything Doesn't mean that introduction wasn't amazing, though. I'm glad they released it as a kind of bonus
I agree. The scene was cut probably because the Joker pretty much stated what the Riddler's motivations were, the fact that his crusade against the corrupt politicians was deeply personal, that he admires and was inspired by Batman, etc. Cutting this scene makes a whole lot of sense, because the impact of the revelations later on wouldn't have the same effect if the Joker had pretty much stated them outright 90 minutes earlier.
While I can understand why it was cut because it explained too much of what's to come, I LOVE the length of the film as it went by REALLY fast as not a single scene was not immersive as it was ALL entirely immersive and compelling throughout it's course! I would have LOVED it if the film was even LONGER than it was because of how engaging and compelling it all was. LOVE the how long the movie was because it made us VERY immersed into the dark world of Gotham by fleshing it out immensely! Loved this film so much!
It's great that this awesome scene wasn't wasted and fans got to see it. Wow. I am so excited for the sequel. Like I already can't wait and I saw the movie a week ago
Y'know, when I saw the Joker's design I really thought it was a bit much...seeing the scene and having the dialogue broken down like this, I'm actually pretty won over. This could be a really scary Joker, especially for a younger Batman.
Wouldn't say "could be a really scary joker", as this joker ALREADY is pretty chilling and terrifying from this one scene already. Love this version of the joker and I’m excited for MORE The Batman films entirely!
There are some comic books where the Joker is depicted similarly (though with different details; I meant, a deformed or mutilated face, like something from a horror movie). Even worse, like a skinless face with skin used as a mask because he mutilated himself to put his face on Batman's face. In some cases, he doesn't mind being wounded if he finds a joke behind it. At least in Arkham Asylum (the comic book), he also seems to be a gay travesty with a deformed face.
@@pedroamaralcouto lol what? Joker is NOT a “gay travesty” AT ALL in the comic book of arkham asylum in the slightest. The hell are you going on about?
@@Gadget-Walkmen, you didn't read the book, you missed what I referred to or you read a censored version. He's effeminated, wears high heels, has long painted fingernails, made lewd comments about Batman, grabbed his butt, etc. Batman threatened Joker for being touched inappropriately. The characters are very different from the animated cartoons. Two-Face can't even decide if he should go to the bathroom and makes a mess. Instead of a coin, he used several other objects in a therapy. At the end, he made his own decision. Read the book. [Added] I looked for information about it, and found it was tamed by censorship: «(...) the Joker was to have been dressed in the conical bra worn by Madonna (...) Warner Bros. objected to my portrayal on the grounds that it would encourage the widespread belief that Jack Nicholson (...) was a transvestite» (Grant Morrison - the writer - in Supergod, about the Arkham Asylum book, quoted in Screen Rant)
@@pedroamaralcouto missed that entirely. that’s crazy to think about but for new movie based on this clip, do you like this new look for the joker? I love the horrific grotesque look as it portrays him as truly messed up and chilling! Fantastic look of this new joker! Hope you like it as well!
It’s not just Hannibal-esque. This entire scene is almost a copy and paste of when Will Graham went to see Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon, right down to him asking for pictures.
I want this Joker to stay in the shadows until the very last moment, then he appears and commits an act so vile that every crime committed by other villains in this universe will pale in comparison… Perhaps the death of a Robin?
This Joker definitely looks like the kind of psycho that would kill Robin without any hesitation. I hope they adapt elements of A Death in the Family for the third film.
@@halloweenfriday oh god if that happens it would be a terrifying moment in all of batman’s live action movies! I’ve always wanted to watch death in the family…
I do feel a little conflicted about this scene. On the one hand, I do really enjoy it, but on the other, I am happy that the rest of the movie stood by itself without it
This Joker looks like a solid successor to Heath Ledger's Joker, i.e. he is frightening even if completely disarmed, you can't threaten him, because he cares about nothing and noone and above all the evil he can commit, he will always chose the personal hell to Batman. This scene reminds me of the last interrogation of Blofeld in James Bond No Time to Die. There is a menacing, disfigured interrogation subject, but this scene has so much substance and suspension, in despite it pretty much doesn't have critical information and it ended on the floor of the cutting room.
I saw Killing of a Sacred Deer and instantly thought he should be the next Joker so this casting is so satisfying to me. Even Saltburn has some very Jokerish beats
This is also a great scene for learning when to cut something for the good of the whole, because even with all the care and character present in the scene, it's entirely self contained and distracts from the rest of the movie. There's already half a dozen completely separate plot threads going at once, and adding the Joker is disconnected if you only have this scene, and muddles the movie if you make him more central.
“This is a. example of showing instead of telling.” I could not agree more, sir. The “show, don’t tell” commandment of storytelling is under-appreciated by many today. I am happy Matt Reeves is not one of them.
I absolutely LOVE the fact that the Joker did NOT help Batman AT ALL with solving this case about the Riddler, essentially wasting Batman’s time with going to him and making Batman think he gained nothing from him, BUT Batman actually got something from this visit but it was something very negative as it was the Joker manipulating the Batman to look at his inner dark-side and see a more sinister view of the whole situation which makes you think Batman’s heart must have fell at this conversation as Batman saw something that he didn’t know about himself until spoken outloud by someone as demented as the Joker! I LOVE that and that’s so Joker as he wants everyone to be twisted and messed up just like him! Fantastic scene from a MASTERPIECE of a movie!
Love this version of the joker and I’m excited for MORE The Batman films entirely! This ENTIRE movie already, is a 10/10 MASTERPIECE! Your effusiveness resonates with me. I'm been fixated on this film since its release. It just GETS the character and the source material in a way no film (and I mean NO film) ever has before. Best. Batman. Ever.
I appreciate your videos..as a writer improving, you’ve influenced the way I consume media and analyze content..thanks for the breakdown I definitely didn’t notice some of these bits and pieces
Its interesting as well, when you look at the structures of all the different jokers. I think this one might show the most potential for damage. Heaths was a criminal mastermind, a crazy genius. Nicklson's was a charismatic crazy, tongue in cheek yet still vicious. Even Leto's joker, a sort of gangster, stylish crazy. Someone it was hard to put your finger on what they would do next. I know many did not like him, but i thought the direction he took, showed some balls and made it his own. It would have been easy to go in and act like a previous version, but he dident do that, and i think that should be commended in some ways. This joker however...He feels more like a rabid, mange riddled animal. I mean just look at him, patches of hair missing, his fingers all (seemingly) chewed up. His mouth, i would not be surprised if he chewed or cut off his own lips. If he will do those sorts of things, TO HIMSELF, just imagine what he would do to someone who pissed him off? And his calm psychotic tendencies, there is something so unnerving about someone who you know is fucking nuts, but talks calmly, almost softly, and worst of all, makes sense in many ways. It shouldent be, crazy does not mix with calm and collected, yet here he is, sitting chained and behind bars and glass, and still controlling the room. I could see this joker being the kind of person, who would cut off someone's body parts, just too see how many it takes too kill someone. And then, when he finished, would get someone new to try again too see if he could take more.
This version of the joker had me when he says maybe he's a fan? Then laughs or a slight chuckle more of a holding in a belly laugh. And then when he says really? Then laughs again but this time he couldn't help himself cause the bat gave him what he wanted man I might like this joker
I understand why they decided to delete this scene, but man, it's become my favorite Batman and Joker scene to date. It's just brilliant, and puts on display how great of a writer Matt Reeves is. Mattson Tomlin wrote a small piece of the film, and will be returning for the sequel. This is by far the best Batman movie we've ever had, in my opinion. And its not even close. Awesome breakdown of the dialog my friend. New sub!
I like the idea that the Joker has already figured out the Riddler was inspired by Batman, but instead of saying it he taunts Batman about how similar they are
I swear to God that I had straight chills watching this deleted Joker scene. I understand why it was cut from the final cut, but I was surprised at how the scene played out. I seriously don't want to hear people complaining about Joker being "repetitive" or people being "fatigued" by "too much Joker". How many times have we seen Batman or Spider-Man done in different ways? Where's the complaints for that? Nowhere to be found, because there isn't none. Barry Keoghan as his version of the Joker creeped me out dearly (which is a good thing). Barry's version of the Clown Prince of Crime had everything I didn't know I needed: the hair, the eyes, the voice, the laugh, the smile (which is the result of his birth defect), everything was picture-perfect. Hell, the look of Keoghan's Joker looks like someone who has survived being burned in a vat of chemicals (even though Matt Reeves has stated that it isn't the case with this version). This version of the Joker has got massive potential for future projects. I can't wait to see more of this Joker (hopefully NOT in The Batman movie sequel).
I think vigilantism needs to be approached in a more serious manner and I hope these new Batman movies show that.. perhaps a past scene of Batman losing control and ruining Joker's face due to his emotional immaturity.. showing that perhaps romanticization is dangerous, and while Batman is a "professional", he still makes dire mistakes.
Lol what? What your saying makes no sense as this movie already SHOWS that Batman being a “vigilante” is ALREADY super dangerous enough from all the stuff that Batman has gone through in this movie alone. What your saying isn’t needed at all with this idea of Batman “losing control” NOR this false idea that he’s “ruined the joker’s face due to his emotional immaturity”, that’s nonsense as “vigilantism” in the movie is already seen as super dangerous as Batman has HEAVY conflict with the cops and how they don’t trust him at all, as WELL as Batman getting into massive dangerous stunts like jumping off the police tower with his bat suit glider and crashing down hard on the way down showing how dangerous ALOT of this vigilante work truly is as by having things not always work out in the end! This movie ALREADY shows that which you missed out on as vigilantism is ALREADY approached in a VERY serious manner right off the bat in this movie! What you’re saying is pretty standard and basic for Batman as he ALWAYS goes through “dire mistakes” when he starts off AS the Batman, and this movie showcased that perfectly fine enough!
@@Gadget-Walkmen I agree. Also it looks like this Joker was knocked into that vat of acid by this Batman before becoming the Joker. So there will be more examples of how vigilantism can create problems and Batman making mistakes in this series.
I don’t think Joker’s messed up face was a result of Batman brutalizing him. Like Matt Reeves said this is a Joker born with an agonizing disease that gave him that permanent smile across his face, that same disease might’ve caused all those horrible rashes and hair loss. Sure Batman might’ve hit him in the face once or twice but not enough to scar him that much
Hmmmm that sounds like a good plot line that the joker is of his own doing.and what if he already has been shitted on his whole life batman might've been the catalyst to send him over the edge no pon intended
Same here! “This is very upsetting to you.” “Let’s get back to him.” “Why? You’re so much more fun!” “That’s interesting.” “No, it’s not. You thought of it before.” “I considered it.” “You came here to look at me, didn’t you? To get the old scent back?”
I think we’ll see more of this character in the HBO spin-offs he might make another cameo appearance. I think the Court of Owls or Mr. Freeze will be the next Gillian
After rewatching the Batman movie and this deleted scene again all I can think of is Batward Pattinson was a lot like bale in his completely 1 sided obsession with joker and I am glad they kept that theme with Riddler. One of my favorite things to see with Batman is how much he just disrespects his villains, and sometimes his allies, when they think they are more of a threat/matter more then they really are.
I explained to is seen to my girlfriend for like half an hour. Such a powerful scene and the dialogue is truly incredible. Matt Reeves laid out an amazing chemistry between Batman n joker in this new run of Batman movies. Can’t wait to see more of Barry’s joker!
This joker needs to remain in prison for the next movies, mostly because it would give him time to plan and bide his time untill his actual appearance. It gives him the chance to not only befriend and study other villains, but also serves as strategy, since Batman came once to talk, he might show up again whenever a new weird case happens Staying on Arkham also gives the joker the possibility of controlling the facility like he does in some depictions, that is, he is free to come and go as he pleases, but decided to stay in order to lure Batman there from time to time, untill he is ready to strike
This is a different way to meet the joker in a movie before seeing him again in a different movie and this is to show that batman has done a better job getting the joker sooner just how good he is at getting the joker that he is better than you think
I always thought, because we're not certain of where in the timeline he goes to joker for his perspective, when asked if he had leads batman replies he has none this was a lie to let joker think he had the upperhand in the exchange. Not hugely important, brilliant video.
I could see this Joker being in most projects but as a way to build to a conclusion much like maybe Arkham Asylum whether the book or the game. Joker somehow taking control over the "mad house" and forcing Batman to really put to the test everything he's learned and to truly see what he'll do to win even when he's being talked to as if he should be in there too. The whole part where he tells Batman that he and the Riddler are so similar and he knows exactly how he thinks really hits the nail on the head of what I want this jokers big moment to be about. He's not trying to necessarily break Batman's moral code and get him to kill but more so trying to get him to realize that he's just as crazy as they are
I love this version of Joker because he seems to be the perfect synthesis of the animated/Arkham Joker and the Heath Ledger Joker. At his core, he still yearns for that beastial authenticity in people and will worm his way into your head to get it, but he's also the completely insane comedy from tragedy Joker of the past that you could totally see throwing a pie laced with acid or something cartoonishly evil like that
Didn’t like this scene at first but now I understand it better I’m really starting to appreciate this joker. Hopefully in the future we can see maybe a serious house on serious earth or Arkham Asylum type Asylum hijacking, I think it would fit this joker well. That or some really horrendous crime like in death in the family or the killing joke. Really excited to see what Matt does.
I hope we barely get joker in movie 2 again. I hope we get another reconstruction of villains we dont usually see on the big screen or havent seen in a while, with Joker still locked up. And then in third, we get Matt Reeves take on Arkham Asylum with Joker as the lead Antagonist.
I would love if you could do a dialogue dive on the Riddler interrogation in the Batman. I love that scene, and there's so much going on. I'd love to hear your perspective on that dialogue!
Can you do a dialogue dive into the Knightmare scene in Zack Snyder’s justice league? Primarily the encounter between Ben Affleck’s Batman and Jared Leto’s Joker. I didn’t like Jared Leto in Suicide Squad but I really liked his portrayal and interactions with Batfleck in the Snyder Cut. Edit: Also a great video btw. Wasn’t trying to sound ungrateful.
I understand why the scene was deleted but that was no small sacrifice. Thank you for the video, I’m starting a screenwriting class soon and I don’t think I know how to get the dialogue to mesh with my visions yet
What I love is that this relationship isn't "We're two sides of the same coin." Instead it's basically Hannibal Lector's "I'm a fucking psychopath so I know one when I see it", then proceeds to call out Batman for being just as psychotic as the Riddler, foreshadowing the whole "I'm vengeance" twist, which honestly would've probably spoiled too much before the climax.
Why a bunch of people in this comment section don’t wanna see another Batman vs Joker movie is beyond me. And then if we get another Batman movie with a less interesting/nuanced villain like Mr. Freeze or Deathstroke, then everyone is gonna complain about how bad the movie is and how they should’ve just had Joker as a main villain. People are really acting like Batman vs Joker has already been done to death, when there was only ever one good depiction of Batman vs Joker in The Dark Knight.
Lot of non comic readers mostly. I mean shit he's in damn near every comic series. He's integral to the story of Batman, there's no "too much" Honestly it's just people getting with the zeitgeist of hopping on Ledgers dick and acting like that role is sacred now and can never be done again. Which is silly, I loved that Joker but it's by no means the end all be all
The deleted scene doesn't undermine Batman. It confirms Batman which is why he lied about not having a theory. That's what Detectives do, they form objective motives based on subjective opinions. This is why Joker was teasing the Batman is always ahead of the curve, joker knew he was BSing him. He also got under Batman's skin by pointing out that Batman thinks Riddler is right but that's not what Batman does, he finds justice regardless what his subjective opinion is. In the books, Batman never expresses his opinion about a crime, he focuses for the why not the how. Like the young boy that he will always be, why did my parent die, why couldn't I stop it. The joker doesn't care on the why he just does, motives are just excuses which is why the Bat and the Clown are polar opposites.
So your saying it was okay for the joker to cuck him at the be hest of the riddler. Not to mention Joker basically figures out the movie; this takes away from a Batman’s paranioa somewhat that he think Riddler believe he’s Bruce, and even if he doesn’t it takes away from Riddlers scene because from Jokers dialogue we can gauge where the scene is headed.
@@XaldinX I agree, as I've already stated this scene detracts from the movie's reveal, but this scene isn't about what the Joker knows and immediately figures out. It's about the Joker knowing what Batman already knows and he calls him out on it. Not only does he calls Batman's bluff, Joker gets under Batman's skin by putting thoughts in his head that the Riddler might right. When it comes to great story telling, the villian never realizes that he's the villian. The difference with this Joker, He knows he's the villian and loves being one.
I had the same thought about the Joker knowing Batman was BSing him on the spot. Like Will Graham and (Brian Cox) Hannibal Lector in “Manhunter.” “That’s interesting.” “No, it’s not. You thought of it before.”
@@lukenorth7127 Yeah, Joker saw right through that BS and retaliated with making fun of him saying that he's afraid Riddler making him look soft. Pretty brilliant quips between the both of them. The gist that Joker doesn't care what Batman is asking him and more interested into getting under Batman's skin makes this scene classic canon to the dynamics of their relationship with each other. I can see this version of Batman and Joker performing an adaptation of the Killing Joke and it being a very dark drama with extremely morbid sense of humor added in.
Interesting insight as always :) I liked this Joker portrayal, I would prefer him as a sideline villain that Batman could talk to. As the main villain I think there are other choices that could be more interesting, because they were never explored on the big screen. Or atleast not on this century
I hope he isn't! It's been too gosh damn long for DC to not take a page out of Marvel's book: don't come out with the biggest villain ever right off the bat (no pun), edge the audience/build anticipation. Make us beg for it!

When I saw this first I thought "wow, this is a cool scene. It was good they took it out because it's redundant for the movie... But gosh I'm glad they are using it for hype like this because this is great".
Probably because the Joker pretty much stated what the Riddler's motivations were, the fact that his crusade against the corrupt politicians was deeply personal, that he admires and was inspired by Batman, etc. Cutting this scene makes a whole lot of sense, because the impact of the revelations later on wouldn't have the same effect if the Joker had pretty much stated them outright 90 minutes earlier.
The tension in this scene derived from my inability to under the Joker's dialogue and struggling to understand Batman. I like the framing of the shots, with Batman in sharp focus and Joker out of focus.
If you mean it's a shame that it wasn't used in the movie then I completely disagree. This scene needed to be cut, it would have completely overshadowed the events of the rest of the film, as well as The Riddler as the main villain. It's good it wasn't used in that regard, but the fact that it's been released as a deleted scene means it's being used right now. It's better to watch now after seeing the movie because it works on it's own as an entertaining scene, establishing a relationship between Batman and Joker in this universe, all while not taking the spotlight away from The Riddler, or revealing too much about the plot before it happens.
I realize he was avoiding *the curtains are blue* stuff but i feel like the fact that we only clearly see Joker’s eyes and face during the climax where he’s really getting into Batman as he’s running away was just kinda glazed over
As much as I feel Cameron monaghan should've been the joker in this trilogy as he really brought a flare to the character, I think the writing in this scene is enough to give me hope for barry

The scene is overall an over explanation of things to come, it’s STILL great tho and a fantastic scene regardless even when it got cut. THAT'S why it's a PERFECT scene as a whole! LOVE this movie as a whole as it’s MASTERPIECE easily!
Ji oppure moon
@@Gadget-Walkmen I personally disagree with that sentiment. I don’t feel it spoils anything but rather is clever foreshadowing. They are giving us two options behind the Riddler’s motives while throwing us off the third option…what if it’s both options (admires Batman/Hates bruce)
It’s kinda like Kevin Williamson did with the original scream 1996 (Spoilers below: avoid if you want to watch)
Throughout Scream they give us obvious clues that Billy or Stu is one of the killers, however what made that movie so unique was that it ended up being both of them.
The line “he admires you, or maybe... has a grudge against you”
Riddler hated Bruce but admires the Batman 😳 this dialogue is a masterpiece! I cant wait to see more of this Joker!

Hannibal Lecter Joker is a cool take. I'd like to see that being done in the second film building him up for when he's finally loose

That a DELETED SCENE is more memorable and we'll constructed than most scenes in most superhero films, is indicative of how incredible the team behind this movie was.

100% agree
Well yeah, he'd have called way too much attention to himself, which would distract from the main antagonist, but still, I've heard that they may be planning a TV series with Barry's joker.

I’m getting major “fell into a vat of acid” vibes for Joker’s look this time. I bet that’s the anniversary he was talking about, maybe Batman even knocked him in like in the comics sometimes. Could be why they both seem to feel a connection to each other here. Hope they go full A Serious House on Serious Earth with it if they continue this continuity.
Matt Reeves said that he was born with his severely scarred skin and became the Joker because he felt, “alright, the joke’s on me. I’m gonna share that joke with the rest of the world!”
@@gdhuertas07 he only said he was born with a condition making him look like his smiling all the time. He said nothing about how his body got so disfigured.
Yeah I think Matt Reeves officially revealed that the Joker was born this way.
I think the anniversary is from when Batman either first fought him or locked him up
@@meciocio he said he had a negative reaction to it maybe he jumped into the vat of acid as a suicide attempt while being a criminal and Batman saved him?
I’m surprised nobody is talking about the fact that Joker stole a paper clip from the bundle of papers. Leads me to believe he might have a larger role in the trilogy than I’d hope, since it seems he’s hatching an escape plan.
I think if the plan is a trilogy the best course of action would be for Joker to be the main villain of the third film.
When I first saw this scene, I thought they were right to cut it. The film is very long, and other than introducing Joker, it doesn't add anything
Doesn't mean that introduction wasn't amazing, though.
Adds nothing? It gives away the entire plot.
[Added] I looked for information about it, and found it was tamed by censorship:
«(...) the Joker was to have been dressed in the conical bra worn by Madonna (...)
Warner Bros. objected to my portrayal on the grounds that it would encourage the widespread belief that Jack Nicholson (...) was a transvestite» (Grant Morrison - the writer - in Supergod, about the Arkham Asylum book, quoted in Screen Rant)
@@pedroamaralcouto missed that entirely. that’s crazy to think about but for new movie based on this clip, do you like this new look for the joker? I love the horrific grotesque look as it portrays him as truly messed up and chilling! Fantastic look of this new joker! Hope you like it as well!
Honestly, this made me appreciate the scene a lot more than I did the first time I watched it.
I really love the Hannibal-esque feel of this scene.
It’s not just Hannibal-esque. This entire scene is almost a copy and paste of when Will Graham went to see Hannibal Lector in Red Dragon, right down to him asking for pictures.

The entire movie is heavily inspired by old crime thriller movies, Silence of the lambs, Seven etc.
I want this Joker to stay in the shadows until the very last moment, then he appears and commits an act so vile that every crime committed by other villains in this universe will pale in comparison…
Perhaps the death of a Robin?
This Joker definitely looks like the kind of psycho that would kill Robin without any hesitation. I hope they adapt elements of A Death in the Family for the third film.
@@halloweenfriday oh god if that happens it would be a terrifying moment in all of batman’s live action movies! I’ve always wanted to watch death in the family…

Honestly, I don't think he did because if he truly did, it would have been important later on.
@@errwhattheflip I mean, the scene was cut
I feel like Barry Keoghan is the LAST casting I'd expect for this specific role but he killed it
Come to think about it this is exactly what everyone said about Heath Ledger when he was casted
I saw Killing of a Sacred Deer and instantly thought he should be the next Joker so this casting is so satisfying to me. Even Saltburn has some very Jokerish beats
I love that never see his full face, only parts or a blurred vision at a time.

I definitely didn’t notice some of these bits and pieces
Can't believe you didn't mention how similar this is to the introduction of Hannibal in The Silence of the Lambs
I love the way the glass obscures his details, adds mystery to his hideous appearance.
A video essay on a deleted scene... F**k, I love UA-camrs like you!
New sub!
I like the idea that the Joker has already figured out the Riddler was inspired by Batman, but instead of saying it he taunts Batman about how similar they are
"You're normally so ahead of the curve"? :sarcastically laughs:
Did I hear that right? Kind of a play on one of Heaths lines maybe?
I can't wait to see more of this Joker (hopefully NOT in The Batman movie sequel).
basically a joker in a deck. Whatever role that needs to be filled he's there. That's why he's the balancing act.
I rewatched like 3 times and I still didn't fully get wtf they mumbled there in the beginning. Thanks for the subtitles
The moment I saw he went to joker for advice I was LIKE wtf U doing batman
Sure Batman might’ve hit him in the face once or twice but not enough to scar him that much
@@rhetiq9989 well whatever the reason, this joker still looks amazing!

“You came here to look at me, didn’t you?
My fav part of this scene is the most ppl miss, but joker steals a paper clip from those folders
Maybe he can use it as toothpick for later use
This joker needs to remain in prison for the next movies, mostly because it would give him time to plan and bide his time untill his actual appearance. It gives him the chance to not only befriend and study other villains, but also serves as strategy, since Batman came once to talk, he might show up again whenever a new weird case happens
Staying on Arkham also gives the joker the possibility of controlling the facility like he does in some depictions, that is, he is free to come and go as he pleases, but decided to stay in order to lure Batman there from time to time, untill he is ready to strike
So glad I found this channel 🔥 more Batman/superhero content please 🙌🏽
I like how Joker is completely right in his assessment
I hope we barely get joker in movie 2 again. I hope we get another reconstruction of villains we dont usually see on the big screen or havent seen in a while, with Joker still locked up. And then in third, we get Matt Reeves take on Arkham Asylum with Joker as the lead Antagonist.
I would love if you could do a dialogue dive on the Riddler interrogation in the Batman. I love that scene, and there's so much going on. I'd love to hear your perspective on that dialogue!
Looks like people either love or hate this scene, hardly anything in between.
I saw the scene literally minutes before this video and now hearing how the Joker manipulates Batman into opening up… Oh My GAWD! 😱😱
I love how your dialogue dives give so much to chew on!
I understand why the scene was deleted but that was no small sacrifice. Thank you for the video, I’m starting a screenwriting class soon and I don’t think I know how to get the dialogue to mesh with my visions yet
I love how you want us not just to watch your videos but also create and learn from them. Thank you for real.
When I saw this scene couple days ago, this channel was the first thing I thought about
Dude I love all your video you really help me as a writer
This feels more like a short film.
He's integral to the story of Batman, there's no "too much"
Honestly it's just people getting with the zeitgeist of hopping on Ledgers dick and acting like that role is sacred now and can never be done again. Which is silly, I loved that Joker but it's by no means the end all be all
I Hope we get a killing joke storyline in this timeline of events maybe as an end to the Patterson batman
If you look very carefully, one of the paperclips on the notes is gone when Batman takes the folder back.

@@corruptangel6793 lol wow I forgot about that.
I didn't care about her enough to feel like they deserves any sentimental closure
I like this video, it made me realize that this deleted scene established Joker as I always knew him; a really smart psycho.
This is really excellent analysis
Like Will Graham and (Brian Cox) Hannibal Lector in “Manhunter.”
“That’s interesting.”
“No, it’s not.
This joker is the nightmare that haunts dreams.
Interesting insight as always :) I liked this Joker portrayal, I would prefer him as a sideline villain that Batman could talk to. As the main villain I think there are other choices that could be more interesting, because they were never explored on the big screen. Or atleast not on this century

I’m interested to see if Joker will have a bigger role in the sequel or if he’ll be the main villain.

Always wanted Batman and Joker to have a Will Graham/Lecter moment.
Wow great analysis. 😃
That Jared Leto Joker "Hunka Hunka" gets me every time bro 😂😂
Would love it if you covered the scene from ManHunter that this is based on.
The tension in this scene derived from my inability to under the Joker's dialogue and struggling to understand Batman.
I like the framing of the shots, with Batman in sharp focus and Joker out of focus.
Shame such a well done scene ultimately didn't get to be used
it's being used right now, to build up future movies.
@@WoahLookAtThatFreak fair
I realize he was avoiding *the curtains are blue* stuff but i feel like the fact that we only clearly see Joker’s eyes and face during the climax where he’s really getting into Batman as he’s running away was just kinda glazed over
I absolutely get why this scene was deleted, but *damn* it’s good.
As much as I feel Cameron monaghan should've been the joker in this trilogy as he really brought a flare to the character, I think the writing in this scene is enough to give me hope for barry
I love this scene. I felt the movie was a bit long and this scene was a bit too long but I suspect that if they were edited together keeping the movie the same length it would be really good.
I gotta disagree with the movie was a "bit long" as it really wasn't as every scene in the movie was MASSIVELY immersive and compelling in EVERY scene as it sucked you completely in as not a single scene was not immersive as it was ALL entirely immersive and compelling throughout it's course! I would have LOVED it if the film was even LONGER than it was because of how engaging and compelling it all was. LOVE the how long the movie was because it made us VERY immersed into the dark world of Gotham by fleshing it out immensely! Loved this film so much and I even wished it was longer even!
@@Gadget-Walkmen glad you liked it. i love these kinds of movies, but was a bit disappointed in this one, my girlfriend who doesn't like these kind of movies like it. I'm sure I'll watch it again and maybe like it more.
This Joker scene is probably my favorite scene "in" the movie, ironically I am like alot of people who think the Joker has been overplayed quite a bit, but here I liked it.
@@happyron it’s unfortunate that you found it “a bit disappointed in this one” at all as I LOVED this movie to death as it had everything to that makes Batman, BATMAN in a story while stylized in modern times!
You should REALLY watch it again and hopefully you’ll grow to love it as I did because for me, I found it to be a complete MASTERPIECE of a movie as a long time Batman fan who ALWAYS wanted a dark story like this focusing on his detective aspect more than anything else.
This ENTIRE movie for me and most others, is a 10/10 MASTERPIECE! We have a batman movie where the best character in the film IS Batman/Bruce Wayne! Robert Pattinson is the BEST batman I've seen and he's PHENOMENAL as Batman AND Bruce Wayne entirely while still given him a new stylized look that's FANTASTIC to see! Love this movie to death as it's the BEST batman movie, felt like watching batman: the animated series BEAUTIFULLY brought to life with it's gorgeous Art Direction and aesthetics! MASTERPIECE of a film throughout!
@@Gadget-Walkmen will watch again!
@@happyron that’s fantastic to hear! Hope you have a much more positive experience with it! As the movie is phenomenal throughout!
Never considered this possible side of the Joker helping Batman on a case!
