The single most incredible atonal movie theme / title animation ever - and that is saying a lot, after Bernard Hermann / Saul Bass' amazing North By Northwest. This sequence sets every hair on my neck, the animation alone is a potent warning against ever engaging in 'advanced' warfare.
10 times? I probably watch this film that many times every year! And the opening is as brilliant as ever. Though I will say every time I watch it the characters and plot for the first 30 mins still has me so confused! Great film.
Steve, thanx for posting...nice scene cut job. This movie gave me the creeps when I was a kid, along with the later released "The Andromeda Strain" in '71.
Simple and very creepy! Jerry Goldsmith's score and the Saul Bass(ish) animation are a perfect combination. The transition into the live action was well done as well. Its a great movie to watch when there is nothing else on.

Seen the film ten times still the main title is still mysterious and haunting.

Great suspense theme. Not only dissonant in tone but timing as well. Bass line sounds like it's in 6/8 while the melody sounds like it's in 4/4.

I always adore these 60's arty opening sequences.

A movie like they don't make 'em anymore. Fantastic.
No CGI. They had to be innovative. 😯
El camión casi entrando por el dibujo de los vasos sanguíneos, increíble. One of The best
I just watched this movie on Turner Classic Movies. It was good !!
This music makes me itch. Incredible.
To me this is the greatest opening animated titles produced by Depatie-Freleng Enterprises.
Classic early (well, relatively early, anyway...) Jerry Goldsmith. Appropriately eerie-&-suspenseful....
great film. thanks for posting this. it looks great!
i can't explain what a life changing experiance seeing this has been . NOT !!
Sounds something like 12 tone music.
It is.
Ed Asner, James Hong, and Simon Oakland!
These films are boffo!
