Ripchair Test Drive

After flying east from California for a family wedding, we stopped at Howe and Howe Technologies in Waterboro, Maine to test a most amazing machine - the Ripchair! This is just one of the many high-tech machines they build - see www.howeandhowe.com for their other innovative projects. The folks were very helpful, taking time from their busy schedules to discuss how it works and let me give it a whirl. My driving is a little clumsy - the joystick was set up for another customer and my hand kept bouncing off of it, causing me to jerk forward and stop on the bumps. But it' a great machine, easy to wheel a manual or motorized chair into it, lock down, flip down the front crash bar, fire up and go places no wheelchair can go! Without attachments the cost is $39,500. Dan Rowe did a great job of building and letting me drive it; Tony (in his motorized chair) and his mom Deanna were very helpful in providing the information we needed.
