Mitch (rapper at beginning) and Scott (lead singer blonde) started a channel called Superfruit in which they explore a ton of fun shit. React to their version of 'Anti-Medley', 'Feeling Myself' and for fun 'Hip Hop Goes Broadway I and II'. This is so much fun and amazing.
This is one of their old videos! They are babies! “New rules x are you that somebody” and “somebody that i used to know” are two really great ones... one recent and the other super old. Great reaction!
This video is a metaphor for their own careers in a way. They won the sing off and the record contract that came with it, but we're dropped by the label within a week. So they decided to do it themselves and while people laughed, they flew.
@@deannaunruh6116 Basically, they're back with the same label. They were dropped by Epic, which is Sony-owned, one of their mid-level labels. When Pentatonix started getting some real notice on UA-cam (about eight months after getting dropped), Sony brought them back, but placed them on one of their low-level labels instead, Madison Gate, which was primarily known for releasing movie soundtrack albums. PTX's first three EPs were released on that label, but after the Daft Punk medley became a huge hit and won them their first Grammy, Sony promoted them all the way up to RCA, one of the company's major labels (along with Columbia), where they've been ever since.
I know that during the Sing Off they had to modify how they sang some of their songs due to Kevin’s religion (I’ve always wondered if that’s why they’re so wholesome lol) so it’s always interesting to see how they tackle & modify songs like this that have some not so wholesome lyrics/words lol. One of my favourite things about PTX is that when they were talking on the Sing Off about the issues they were having with the song arrangement due to only being able to use certain parts of the song they never once made Kevin feel bad or got pissy with him about it. Kevin raised the issue with them & they accepted it without question & just cracked on with the job. I think that’s why they gel so well together, with them there’s no ego, no bitchiness, no petty shit, they just accept & have so much respect for each other 🥰
@@mmg8823 see it’s that sort of information that just keeps pushing my respect for them higher & higher, the absolute respect they have for each other is a wonderful thing to see. They’re a one in a million group 🥰
I was attracted to Pentatonix because of the huge variety of music they do. That plus doing it in a cappella which is a very demanding music form. I was hooked.
If you listen carefully, you can clearly hear Avi's overtone. That's what made this awesome, although they are incredibly awesome, but that overtone is just somthing.
Avi and Kevin give such great support to every song, between them you get all the bass and percussion needed for anything. Loving your reactions, and this rabbit hole still has a long way to go!
Love this song. Watching the video for the first time in years, it feels very “retro” much more like their Sing Off performances, dancing in unison like a boy band
Sing and Come Along. You’re welcome for that, too. 😙 Scott: tall blonde guy Mitch: tiny dark-haired guy Kevin: beatboxer Avi: deep bass guy Girl: Kirstin Later: Avi traded for Matt
Love your reactions. You should really check out Superfruit - Feeling Myself. Scott (the tall blode) and Mitch (who did the first verse) are incredibly good.
This is symbolic of them winning the TV show, getting a contract, and then being dropped by the label - so they took it upon themselves to forge ahead - it's such a good message.
Doing fantastic covers of songs is what PTX is known for. I don’t know how many times I’ve heard one of their excellent songs and realized that I probably wouldn’t have been a fan of it when sung by the original artist. They just have such a great way of giving a new and better twist to any song they do. And their bass and rhythm section is so outstanding! Kevin is fabulous here, but he’s only gotten better as time has passed. Interesting fact about Kevin: when Scott asked him to join the trio (Scott, Mitch and Kirsten) and Avi to compete on The SingOff, Kevin had just finished his pre-med studies at Yale University, and had been, I believe, accepted to their School of Medicine. He had planned on becoming a medical missionary in China.
Overtone singing with Avi Kaplan live on stage used quite a bit in this and in the Sing-Off starting with E.T. episode 1 ua-cam.com/video/2i61_JNc_Nc/v-deo.html
I always love it when the Pentaholics get into the 'oldies'! They are as good as the new releases! Have you seen Radioactive featuring Lindsey Sterling yet. It's killer too!
Speaking of the storyline: 1. I actually love how they got the video sponsor into the beginning of the storyline so smoothly too. Perfect product placement! 2. That sound effect made by the beatboxer (Kevin) that you commented on gets me every time. It has more impact in the video vs just listening because of how they time the video shots. It's immediately following the story part where "ASNA" flights gets cancelled & the astronauts get told. The dropping/crashing sound goes well with the dissapointed feeling & counterpoints the building back up which follows.
As you love Pentatonix, you might want to also check out Voice Play and Home Free. They are also a cappella groups and both have amazing basses and are real tight with harmonies.
The one rapping at the start is Mitch (my favourite) he’s a really good rapper, at the start he said Mitch’s like me and not bitches like me, they always change the swear words to family friendly words. Kevin the beatboxer is amazing at rapping too, he raps in their original song SING, he also has an amazing tenor voice. The blonde guy is Scott. The girls name is Kirstin, like she said in the song her name is Kirstin but you can call her Kirstie, although not many people call her Kirstie anymore. The bass guy is Avi who is in this video but they now have a different bass guy his name is Matt. Avi left in 2017 for family reasons and he didn’t like Touring so much and being away from his family
People kinda stopped calling her Kirstie after she released her first solo album under the name of "Kirstin TM" rather than her full name. But everyone around her still calls her Kirstie and she still refers to herself as Kirstie.
I loved this song and your reaction to it. You are definitely a Pentaholic now. Kirstie, soprano, Scott, baritone; Mitch, countertenor; Avi, bass; Kevin, beatboxer, cellist, tenor.
I'm a new sub from your PTX videos.. so happy I found your channel! I love your reactions. I have to recommend Superfruit "Feelin' Myself" like others are probably doing because Mitch kills it with his rap. Superfruit is Mitch and Scott (tall blonde and skinny brunette) from PTX.
Okay from the top band members Beatboxer-Kevin black guy Bass and beatboxing effects e.g Overtone singing- Avi "Ahhhvi" bearded white guy Mezzo soprano- Kirstin - the girl Baritone - Scott -Macklemore tall blond guy Tenor - Mitch high notes

You need to watch the Pentatonix original "Love Again"! SO GOOD... also AHA! Singapore Star Vista Live is a fan-cam video of part of an actual concert!
If you listen carefully to the beginning again Kevin says “ Mitch, let’s go!” and later Mitch then says/sings “ bad Mitches like me are hard to come by”. Which I personally think is a really creative way to make it their own while simultaneously avoiding the B word.
Yes they had to be very creative in covering the raps particularly because Kevin (the beatboxer) is a 7th Day Adventist which is a pretty far right wing Christian faith in the USA. No swearing at all.
Actually if you want to check out how they became publicly known the were debuted on an America acapella competition called the "Sing Off" and they won. They were a five person group competing against groups that had more then 8 people
On The Sing Off they also did some Kanye West (Love Lockdown) though there isn't a rap in there. And the mastermix of Forget You and Since You Been Gone is vocal acrobatics.

I jokingly say that they "Pentasize" covers. Scott and Mitch do Superfruit and Kevin the beatboxer has a channel under KO these are definitely channels you'll want to look at.
Since you appreciate Kevin (beatboxer) as well as all of them, you would really like a song off the EP-AT HOME they put out after quarantine started (they recorded from each of their own home studios) the whole EP is great, but one in particular is a musical masterpiece, a Clean Bandit cover, COLOGNE. In addition to Kevin's incredible beatboxing, Avi adds a ton of effects with his overtones and bass "Bwaaa"s. This is a very old video.
