    I love this Glen Campbell rendition however some days when I listen to it, my eyes can't help but fill with tears as I realise how much of my life I have wasted. People say you regret what you don't do, rather than what you do. And in my case at 64 the heartful regret I feel of not having any kids is never more apparent especially when surrounded by my family and friends when it's obvious their children bring them so much joy, pleasure and pride.

      hi brian, many of us who share your situation feel the same as you. but remember not everyone is meant or needs to have children in a world already far overpopulated. and you likely have done other things in life that would not have been possible with children and family obligations. and perhaps those things gave goodness to others that made their lives better, just as much as the offspring you would have had. so it isn't simply whether or not you have had kids, but how you lived your life. best to you.

    I get teary eyed whenever I hear this song. The message cuts deep into the heart. Even though I cannot say I had a nice and colorful youth, so there is nothing much to remember and nothing much to regret. However I still wish I had enjoyed it like the many fortunate ones. The only comfort I get today is when I see my son enjoying the things I never had yesterday...when I was young.

    • @sepandghanouni2271
      @sepandghanouni2271 8 років тому +16

      Oh no my friend this IS NOT country music. In fact, the lyrics, the music, and the song were all written by a French singer named Charles Aznavour. This is an almost exact translation of that song Hier Encore.

    • @paulevans6403
      @paulevans6403 8 років тому +1

      In the French original the first words are Hier encore, j'avais vingt ans, translated as "Yesterday (the "encore" adding a figurative meaning to the word yesterday), when I was 20." I believe French-Armenian singer Charles Azvanour wrote it when he was all of 23! He has sung it in over 20 languages and still performs it as of 2016 - he is in his 90s. Campbell does a great job.

    What a great man and singer songwriter with unlimited talent who entertained the world 🌎 I'm so very very greatful that i had a childhood with my beautiful mother and father who played his music all through my childhood. And i met his young daughter playing in concert with jimmy webb at the Birmingham Town Hall last year? It was very very emotional as i was in a coma for 9and a half weeks and 7months in a hospital bed and now in a wheelchair 😭 and my beautiful best forever friend tom was supposed to have been there too as i purchased tom a ticket for his 65th birthday but we boh developed chronic covid pneumonia and multiple organ failure and hypoxia and sepsis and heart attacks through the medications 💊 that the medics had to give us whilst we were in our comas. But unfortunately tom didn't make it he had to have his ventilator turned of as he had no brain activity due to hypoxia and multiple organ failure. I awoke 9 and a half weeks later only to find that he passed away 3beds away from me whilst I was in my coma. So when i was at the show jimmy came back on stage to do one last song and i broke down crying 😢 as it was the song tom truly truly loved Glenn cambell singing and all through the show i was dreading he wouldn't sing it and then the very very last song when he came back on stage was the one? The moon's a harsh mistress! This totally broke me into tears as i looked up from my wheelchair ♿️ and said quietly? This is for you tom rip 🙏 and nowadays I'm so very very lonely and lost and broken 💔 and honestly with this awful ptsd and illnesses I'm struggling with I'm a shadowman 👤 and numb 😔 anyway RIP TOM AND THANKYOU FOR 21AND A HALF YEARS OF YOUR FRIENDSHIP AND FOR ALWAYS SMILING FOR ME WHEN I COULDN'T AFTER LOSING MY VERY VERY BEAUTIFUL SWEET ANGEL 😇 MOTHER. AND THANKYOU AGAIN GLENN FOR ALL THE WONDERFUL MEMORIES THAT I STILL HOLD IN MY SOUL RIP 🙏 FROM A SHADOWMAN 👤🎤🎸🎹🥁🇬🇧🙏

    Great song. Married once, divorced, no kids, mid-60's. Life is a mixed bag no matter what, always something to regret if we go there. "Woulda, shoulda, coulda" just doesn't seem healthy to me. Both my sisters (older than me) are in terrible marriages and their families are a wreck. It's a different journey for each of us, pro's and con's no matter the direction. I've been blessed with great experiences and great friends, and believe if we focus on contributing to the lives of others and being there when it counts the most, we'll be okay.

      The old saying "youth is wasted on the young" - imagine if we had our youth and energy it with the wisdom we gain later? I think I'd play even harder, and worry less, knowing time is so very, very short.

    My dad used to sing this to me when I was little, I had no understanding of what he was singing or what it meant, but until recently I found myself at school humming it, I typed up the lyrics I knew and now I understand. Thanks Dad!

    I am 67 now and most of the words sung here, in this song, are true and to the point. I wish I could be young once more but have no regrets on the life lived as the years went by so fast that I am a grandad now, for four wonderful Kids.

    I'm sure we all have regrets from our past, but regrets are a waste of Time. We have a wonderful thing.... TODAY! the Bible says Today is the the day the Lord has made, Rejoice and be Glad in it. It took me too much Time to realize this. We only pay for our regrets if we if we make ourselves do it.

    This song is so emotional and inspirational at the same time which brings the best in you. I'm only 33, but it always takes 1 or 2 tears from me. It's a wonderful song and you can feel its power by just listening to it. This song makes me think of the ones that lived their lifes and got older, and the ones that never made it so far. Remember to always be nice and humble towards the older people.
