I had to work around some issues due to prior tries using IIS and MySQL instances, but this video made everything work for me after more than 12 hours wasted on the no-wamp setup! Thank you very much :). If anyone did like me and installed many PHP clients, you'll have to manually delete all the php.ini files that are not in the wamp folder - otherwise, blank phpmyadmin page.

I also plugged in an external HDD to the PC and set up Owncloud to save its files to it and now I have a 4TB cloud drive for close to free (already had the HDD). Talk about a drop box killer.
Thanks for the Great Vid Locslikes. It answered questions that other vids over looked. Like were to change the server name to the IP as well as the port number for port forwarding. I run owncloud behind a pfsense firewall server and it works great. Good JOB
no that is just a name for the server. it can be anything you like. for the client you need the external ip address and port number unless you are using ssl. when you install the client it will create a folder called clientsync and it should put a shortcut to your favorites just like dropbox otherwise its under c:\users\username\owncloud.
@Sehee Kim I can't reply directly to your post for some reason. If you go through the wamp icon it will automatically use notepad. if you want to notepad ++ you have to manually open the files through explorer.

not sure i totally understand the question but you can't make it "public" you have to sync to it using the clientsync or access it via a browser. Just install the client sync on your netbook and let it sync.

I set the server up and everything was running smooth, able to connect from outside sources(had 3 different people verify from 3 different locations). Let the server sit for a few hours and tried to log back in now it keeps giving the error "ERR_CONNECTION_TIMED_OUT" All of my other computers are connecting fine to the network and I can get to localhost/owncloud, but trying to use the ip address is returning that error every time. Any ideas what might be causing this?

Programa Fragua unfortunately you can't install owncloud 8 on windows anymore. i think some of the earlier versions of 8 still worked but definitely the newer versions won't work.
Hello, great video but i have question: What if you change the location where the data needs to be saved of the cloud, for an example what if i put the path to /D (external hard disk) in stead of using the path C:/ww/owncloud/data etc? So i can easily make a backup of the data when needed and i can take the hard disk away and replace it with another one when needed. (for example a bigger hard disk with more memory avaible).
In your guide you named the server 192.168.1.XX. Is that name relevant when you try to remote from for example OwnCloud client (Android and PC) or is the remote adress the servers external IP? Another thing I wonder is where the folder is for the Owncloud sync on my computer. In Dropbox I have a folder and I can drag and drop things in that folder to sync. Where is that folder on my server? I appriciate your help!
When I try to access ownCloud from another PC on the same network. It's kicking me out, saying " Forbidden You don't have permission to access /owncloud on this server. Additionally, a 403 Forbidden error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request. " I've restarted the Apache service after I finished configuring the httpd.conf file.

the whole point of owncloud is that you have total control of your files. dropbox is a fantastic tool but do you know where your files are kept? if you have your own server you have total control of your information. Obviously its not for everyone but its great to have the option.
WampServer Version 3.0.6 64bit never went green for me it stayed orange and was not able to proceed after that any step by step instructions ?? and will owncloud work on windows ??
+D SILVA owncloud is no longer supported under windows after version 7 i think it was. best bet is to check the logs to see what's causing it to not go green. unfortunately as every system is different it could be so many different things. maybe try changing the listening port of apache?
Hello Everyone - On the ownCloud website, they have stopped supporting Microsoft Windows as of release 8.2 I am currently using ownCloud release 8.1 with WAMP on Windows 7 with no issues at all. You can definitely use v8.1 on windows.

mate need more information. but go back and check the httpd.conf file and check your ip address, port no etc... also check the firewall on the server and make sure you allow the port through or just turn off the firewall to test.

I only have one more question/doubt, would it be possibile to make owncloud use an external hard drive for storing content? I mean instead of the internal hard drive of the windows PC. The fact is, mini PCs usually use 2.5'' HDD which are not very large and i would like to use an external 3.5'' bigger HDD. Any suggestion about this? Thanks in advance :-)
Giovanni Bianchini hi mate. yep it can be done. when you get to the part where you are logging into owncloud for the first time at 8:35 it will ask you where you want the data to be stored you can point it to an external location.

One more question, any chances to set a kind of "RAID 1" with 2 external USB HDD? I am worried that storing the owncloud data only on 1 external HDD would be risky (in case of hardware failure). Giovanni Bianchini theoretically it would be possible to do raid with usb's but wouldn't recommend it as usb would be too slow and just too many possibilities for overloading the bus and crashing the whole system. a better solution would be to put the data on a NAS of sorts. you could build one yourself. i have a few videos of building your own nas :-)

Hello... First of all thanks for this great video... it really saved my career... I followed the steps exactly as discribed by you.... I am installing owncloud-6.0.3. WAMP set successfully. i open owncloud. enter UN & PWD. In advance setting on the homepage i get 2 options: 1) SQLlite 2) MYSQL I selected mysql but its not accepting "root" as a user. It throws a error showing that : " MySQL username and/or password not valid. You need to enter either an existing account or the administrator. Please help ME !!!! Thanks in advance. Andy

But when I type http:/ipaddress/owncloud I get directed to pink page that says "404 Not found and under that it says File not found" I really appreciate your help here. I literary tried everything. best place to start is to check the logs. something on your pc is not allowing one of the services to start.

yeah windows is no longer supported for owncloud 8. if you want to use windows you need to use version 7.

Giovanni Bianchini hi mate. yep it can be done. when you get to the part where you are logging into owncloud for the first time at 8:35 it will ask you where you want the data to be stored you can point it to an external location.

I can put a fast and small SSD hard disk into the mini PC (to get the best performances) and buy a bigger HDD to connect via usb for storing the data itself. One more question, any chances to set a kind of "RAID 1" with 2 external USB HDD? I am worried that storing the owncloud data only on 1 external HDD would be risky (in case of hardware failure). Thanks in advance ;-)
Giovanni Bianchini theoretically it would be possible to do raid with usb's but wouldn't recommend it as usb would be too slow and just too many possibilities for overloading the bus and crashing the whole system. a better solution would be to put the data on a NAS of sorts. you could build one yourself. i have a few videos of building your own nas :-)

guys, owncloud supports linux and mac os. but not on windows.

I followed the steps exactly as discribed by you....
I am installing owncloud-6.0.3.
WAMP set successfully.
i open owncloud.
enter UN & PWD.
In advance setting on the homepage i get 2 options:
1) SQLlite
2) MYSQL
I selected mysql but its not accepting "root" as a user.
It throws a error showing that : " MySQL username and/or password not valid. You need to enter either an existing account or the administrator.
Please help ME !!!!

Anandteerth Onkar not sure but i'd go back and check the myphpadmin section at about 6:00 mins into the video. check the password that you put in there.
locslikes I hope so the user name should be "owncloud" have not tried but read an article on the same... as i selected SQLLite option.

Microsoft Windows platform is not suported. Bla, bla bla. Pity. I'm running Windows 7
Gijsbert Claas if you use owncloud 7 it should still work. OwnCloud 8 and up won't have windows support anymore.

Rey Y i would always try the newest version first. if that doesn't work then work backwards.

Hi, Thanks for the amazing video.. I really need your help here. I did all the steps you mentioned in the video. I punch in the IP address into apache httpd.conf and hit save and restart the service. But when I type http:/ipaddress/owncloud I get directed to pink page that says "404 Not found and under that it says File not found"

It does...when I type localhost/owncloud it works but as soon as I type ipaddress/owncloud it takes me to a pink page that says 404 Not Found then under that line it says file not found. locslikes
MrHope56 whats the ip you are using on the server and whats the ip of the machine you are trying to access it from?
locslikes I went and opened httpd.conf then when it says "ServerName" I wrote: 70.162.xx.xx:80 and my ip is the same as 70.162.xx.xx
MrHope56 that's your external ip. you need to give it an internal private ip like in the video.
