Iirc The civil rights leader named A.H. does a lot of work for getting education and communication services to rural communities. He got his name because his family was so isolated from modern society that his parents' only understanding of the name A.H. was that it was a white-sounding name (the area had historically been a colony of Germany) and therefore would help him with work and trade if he ventured to the cities. Because of this he refuses to change his name until it really is true that no intelligent person would name their child A.H., because every person finally has access to that information.
This was super interesting. A lot of these names are truly atrocious, and I feel awful for the kids. But on the bright side, I love the story of the guy changing his name to Santa Claus and doing charity work, it's super heartwarming. Okay, but the king (or whoever writes documentation and responses on behalf of the king for name change requests) writing a letter to be like “sorry, I can’t let you do that. But if you request when you’re a little older I might reconsider it” really handled it well. Even if I’d imagine that’s probably the general response to anyone under 18 wanting a name change aside from exceptional circumstances, it doesn’t go as harsh as many of the name change rejections often do, and is like “hey, if you really like the name, I’ll consider it properly at 18. Just give it some thought until then.” The kid probably just had a hyper fixation, and grew out of the intent a few years later. Or they may have decided to keep up the bit after they turned 18, but at that point they’re reasonably taking on the consequences of their actions if any come forth.
That teacher named Stacey was 100% right. I don’t think any names should be banned, however, there are certain names that should get you put on some sort of list. Also, I just thought I’d let everyone know that there is one person on the planet named Gay Bowser.

I don't know if this is true or not but I heard once about a mother naming her kid after a concentration camp just because they thought the name sounded pretty.
I knew a man named Aku who was Japanese living in the UK - he said when he was a bit younger, when Samurai Jack was super popular, due to the fact that Akuma called himself "Aku" people made the association with the character and kids would attack him trying to be "Jack" and older folks just made his life hell by referencing it if they knew of the show. He actually told me Akuma WAS his name [his parents had been outside of Japan so he was able to have the name] and when he learned the meaning he went by "Aku" instead. Also idk if it was banned at the time or where he grew up, I just know when I knew him he was in the UK.

Hi there, Zongalito from Chile, in here we have a rule about banned names, while there are some banned names there and there, whats more usual is "banned named combinations" where they forbid two names to be together so they make a pun For example Elsa Podiondo As a bit of slang context, here "Sapo", while is the Spanish for frog or toad, it can also mean "Vagina" Mari Constanza In between has the word "maric*n" which is the Spanish of the hard F word And so on many combinations can be banned to prevent the kid to being bullied because of the parents

aita is also slang for "am i the a hole"
Aita also sounds like eiter, the german word for pus
And it means bench in Finland
Oof

Awesome video and great to see Dennis drop by!
Fun fact: my real birth name is “so unique” nobody else has it. Can’t even google it. That’s why I use a fake name online to protect privacy and it’s also easier to type.
My name has *NINE FREAKING LETTERS* nobody at school knows how to spell it💀😑 rip
My name has 11 letters...I'm African
@@Es_gee oh
I feel ya. My first name is 12 letters long and **very** unique
Being a Santa Claus has got to be one of the most wholesome jobs out there honestly
There's a doctor in my area that goes by "Dr. James Bond"
His middle name is James and last name Bond. I don't remember what his first name is.
Pussygalore?
There’s a film from last year called The Other Fellow which is about people called James Bond, it was really interesting.
The fact that we have a real Santa clause that actually deserves the nsmr actually fills joy to my life
This was super interesting. A lot of these names are truly atrocious, and I feel awful for the kids. But on the bright side, I love the story of the guy changing his name to Santa Claus and doing charity work, it's super heartwarming. On a different note, I've been binge watching a ton of Claymation stuff lately, especially Will Vinton, Aardman, and Cosgrove Hall stuff, and I wish the medium had more love.
*The following are the musings of a Salty SEAGULL named EARL who just shows up in my posts whenever he feels like it!*
[EARL the Salty SEAGULL:] 4:45 - "Maybe that's why DBZ Kakarot officially changed Bulma's mother's name from "Panchy" (a pun on the word Panties) to Bikini! Also I'm glad my mother named me EARL as its not only fine name but also a title, hence my nickname DA EARL!"
My name is Orisis, not Osiris, Orisis.
Kids had a heyday with it...😢
@PhantomStrider @8:29 What that Background music playing?
My mother in law works for a rehab clinic. She once came upon someone who was named ABCD pronounced Ab-seh-deey.
I can see why they developed an addiction (seriously all jokes outside I hope they’re doing ok now)
That teacher named Stacey was 100% right. I don’t think any names should be banned, however, there are certain names that should get you put on some sort of list.
Also, I just thought I’d let everyone know that there is one person on the planet named Gay Bowser.
A Strong Bad reference! That totally made my day! Thank you! 😊
Man those parents must have never wanted to have a kid to just have him with no name for FIVE YEARS!
In Denmark, names like Basilika, Ikea, Bais and Bandito. The poor kids could be teased for it. Almost all names in Denmark can be used for teasing. Even my own and i have been bullied my whole life.
I used to work for an Institution that was associated to Civil Registry, I had to capture the names of dead people in a system, and I can assure the most cruel names I witness someone had was: Neófita (Neophyte), Eutanasia (Euthanasia) and Calzón (Underpants).
Neofita I mean it was strictly true when they named her...
@@BATCHARRO True... but she died a 97.
The video clip for "virgin" in the Australia segment was a chef's kiss.
@phantomstrider thank you for mentioning me in the video. I'm glad it was helpful
Amazing video phantomstrider of ridiculous name banned around the world, fantastic job.
I remember when I was younger I wanted to name myself "Power Ranger" lol
15:13 amazing video but a Kitsune is a type of fox, not a type of wolf
Thank you for posting this today, i have a really bad cold at the moment ♥️
I hope you can still visit countries where your name is banned!
But I love that you used music from Spyro: Enter The Dragonfly here (Luau Island)! I love that series and (unpopular opinion) I think that game is actually pretty good, just unfinished.
Hey, I hope you don't mind my asking, but is there any chance you could review the Beatles movies? Not just the ones they themselves made, but the ones related to them (y'know, Yesterday, Nowhere Boy, Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band, Across the Universe, etc)?
Or maybe even the Beatles cartoon?
How much do these parents hate their kids for them to give them such names??
Be glad I don't have kids.
There names would be Goku, Luigi, Mario and Waldo.
Mario and Luigi are very normal names.
If I did I've thought I'd name em all after gemstones...
I knew a coworker who actually named their kid Anakin due to being a huge Star Wars fan.
2:23: Impressive how he managed to say all that with having to take any breathes
The fact that Brfxxccxxmnpcccclllmmnprxvclmnckssqlbb10116's parents waited 5 YEARS without naming their child is even more depressing than the name they give him😔
it was a nice suprise to hear you strider in a sonic paradox short vol nine
Danish stand-up comedian and magician Rune Klan once mentioned "It is illegal to call your child Messiah in Denmark. So I am going to call my son Matthias and hope he has a lisp."
Funny thing, I actually have a co-worker called Adolf. I'm hungarian just to clearify.
"Santa Claus, banned in Ohio" is a heck of a statement out of context.
Stupid names shouldn't be taboo but they should carry an air of scorn towards the parents, since it feels like a form of child abuse. Also, children have the right to legally change their names to something less stupid.
Hi there, Zongalito from Chile, in here we have a rule about banned names, while there are some banned names there and there, whats more usual is "banned named combinations" where they forbid two names to be together so they make a pun
For example Elsa Podiondo
As a bit of slang context, here "Sapo", while is the Spanish for frog or toad, it can also mean "Vagina"
Mari Constanza
In between has the word "maric*n" which is the Spanish of the hard F word
And so on many combinations can be banned to prevent the kid to being bullied because of the parents
always good when one of my fav youtubers upload!
That Santa Claus stuff was the most wholesome thing I've heard of, all month
The fact the kid who wanted to be renamed Sonic X was named Christopher is freaking hilarious.
I love Sonic X myself, have a ton of the season 1 DVDs from the 4kidz dub... but that is just too funny 😂
Tbh those banned names sounded funny to me
...well most of them.
When I was a kid I wanted to rename myself "X" once. I think because of the character "Red X" in Teen Titans (2003). I was a huge fan of Cartoon Network shows as a kid like Teen Titans. I'm almost positive CN was my favorite channel.
"Albin? ALBIN!" "Okay!"
i think peaople keeping names illegal becuase an evil person used the name, is essentualy giving that person power from beyond the grave. if have nuff resources and evil enugh could do insane evil just to get a name banned.
@PhantomStrider Here's a video idea for you Strider =D . Top 10 Fictional Characters That Aren't Villains, But We Hate More Than the Main Villain. Dolores Umbridge from Harry Potter would easily make that list. And I initially had Vedek/Kai Winn from Star Trek Deep Space Nine on the list, but decided that naw, she's a villain, she just doesn't broadcast it to the other characters.
i get more street fighter's akuma considering it happened not too far off from street fighter 2.(with how we have bleach & disgaea especially could see some names similar to it being used.:3)
a kid named chris nearly being named sonic x made me laugh harder than i should.(that santa story was so adorable.)

Me when i accidentally fall asleep on the baby naming machine:
Hey Strider, when you spell my first name, it's spelled JONATHAN not Johnathan. Just a minor nitpick, but anyway very informative video!!!!
I'll fix that up in the end slate credits. Thanks for letting me know!
@@phantomstrider No problem
France banned twins being called Port and Starboard, there is Jihad and a couple others ones, all that would lead to heavy bullying for the kids. It seems a lot of parents wants to be known for having a special unique name without ever considering about bullying. I have a name that is an old french term and I was bullied for it, so having names like those banned would have been just adding fuel to the fire.
Adolph/Adolf: Apparently it means "noble wolf", so it's not a bad meaning.
Also, something similar was apparently said by Indian -- as in literal India -- politician Adolf Lu Hitler Marak, who ran against Frankenstein Momin and Billykid Sangma in 2013. (As this is about names, I didn't chase down the result.)
Here in Finland there's an urban legend that the name Pasianssi (combination of commonly used names Pasi and Anssi) is banned because its also the Finnish name for the Solitaire/Patience card game. However, there are apparently some Pasianssi's here.
