The irony of me stumbling across this video. I bought this ink from Wonder Pens in Toronto about 6 years ago. I'm also from VA, Richmond in fact, and I love Poe, mostly because of my name. But I was looking for an ink to put in my new Pilot 823 smoke and this ink is a contender along with Franklin Christoph's Black Magic. Great review.
The first thing I do with new Noodler's inks (after a good shake) is to use a pipette or syringe to transfer some of the ink to a sample vial. Then I fill pens from the vial. I ruined the label on 54th Massachusetts when the ink spilled over during a fill.
That is a really good idea! I have ruined a few labels now by using a syringe a little too close for art journaling! I forget to move the bottles away!😅
When my FPD order came with a Noodler's Ahab Raven fountain pen, had to ink it up with Noodler's Raven Black ink. Best pen and ink combo, especially with the striations across the pen, very sweeping, like a raven's wing. Ink shows up darker on my Rhodia pad than your camera shots.
Thats a lovely black. Suits well with the pen. 😊 The only black ink I want next is the Aurora black. Have heard great things about it, but never tried.
The actual name of the ink is Raven Black although Nathan didn't put that on the bottle label. It's become my goto black ink. The other Canadian exclusive at Wonder Pens is Plains of Abraham, a gorgeous blue ink. Depending on the pen, it will go down as a blue or a Prussian blue. Being Canadian, I had to have both.
OK, I really like the look of this ink in your video. I've said before that I'm also a huge fan of Dark Matter. I just prefer the cooler-toned blacks like DM over the warmer-toned ones like HoD and Bulletproof Black. Thank you for sharing with us!
Finding the one true black ink to rule them all. 😂 I gifted away my one black ink to penable a friend, and now I want to find that perfect "waterproof but easily cleanable" black that I don't have to fuss over. This might be the next step to finding a neat black ink. 🙂 Even if this black leans grey... I'll find a dark one eventually that would work for me. LOL
Have you tried the "Texas Black Bat" from Noodler's? It is quite black and is supposed to be waterproof and anti-feather. I've been using it for a few weeks and like it. I like "Bad Black Moccasin" a lot too. Both are on the blacker side.
@@curatedavalon The only black I have tried so far was Herbin Perle Noir and it isn't waterproof at all, but it was a nice entry ink that I first got when I started out. I transferred it to the friend like I said. So, I have no black inks. It's all about trying them out now once I've given myself some pen and ink allowance. 🙂 I saw your swatches of all the blacks in the video, and those did strike my fancy. Do you have troubles with staining or clogging with any of those? (Staining being converters, feeds, barrels, etc.)
@@jackivaltrades I haven't had any issues with staining or clogging from any of of the Noodler's black inks. I would say that "Texas Black Bat" could have more potential to do so but it is a waterproof ink. "Bad Black Moccasin" is quite dark black and is water resistant. Dark Matter washes away from plastics the easiest but it is also water resistant as opposed to waterproof.
Mam I will give you a small tip use sticks coated with sea ⛵ sponge they give you a better resolution of the inks cotton present in the buds alter the composition of the ink properties and sheening ,drying time differs check it out thanks god bless
Mam don't put the cotton swab directly into the bottle take a small amount in a glass cubicle and do your testing so that you don't contaminate the full bottle thanks god bless

If you haven't tried Black Magic, it's definitely worth a look, dries INSTANTLY and is a super dark black ink.@@curatedavalon
Oh man, I think I have a crush on this ink. Noodler’s never lets me down!
You and me both! I'm using it this moment!

Nice! I'll have to try it on Rhodia paper.

I'll have to check it out! I have such a long list of things I want to try!

I have a sample of the Plains of Abraham, but haven't tried it yet! It does look so pretty.

You're very welcome! I tend to like those cooler tones too. This one surprised me as I expected more of a brown tone!
Hello and thanks a lot for your beautiful videos, I would like to know which noodler's black ink is the most saturated black? Thanks again
The most saturated Noodler's Black ink for me has been the "Borealis Black" "Texas Black Bat" and "Dark Matter" in that order.
@@curatedavalon thanks a lot
Very nice video. RS. Canada
Thank you!

Another ink you may have not known is Rino noodlers ink its a desaturated green similar to a jade
Thanks!
Do you use black for personal correspondence?
Cotton has cellulose fibres in them and that is the reason for the changes thanks god bless
Interesting!
I cant find it anywhere anymore. Does anyone have any information or were I can obtain it.
Same, I just spent the last hour trying to find it anywhere but it seems it’s off the WonderPens site and doesn’t even show up on Noodler’s site…
It has sadly been discontinued! I really miss it!

I use my ink so fast I don't really worry about it, but good tip!
Gee I wonder who recommended this ink?? lol
😆 You got me!
@@curatedavalon It really is an amazing black ink. I'm going to buy it now! Just had to let you do the dirty work for me. 😂😉
