    Tip # 6 Stay loose: keep your hands open, your muscles relaxed, your rhythm going and sit comfortably in your stance, tense muscles= slow punches.

      Won´t you break your hands and lose some solidity from the connection if your hands are open? I´ve always been taught to keep everything loose, but when your fist is on it´s way to the target you squeeze your hand shut really hard to lock in your wrist and protect your metacarpal bones and so you won´t lose power from your fist or wrist wobbling. The way it was explained to me was keep everything relaxed, except your arms from the elbow to your fist should turn into a metal beam as the punch is flying.

    • @victorc.9072
      @victorc.9072 5 років тому +35

      The Razah i didn't mean keep your hands open throughout the whole motion, you should keep your hands relaxed in a curled up position but not clenched into a fist that slows you down dramatically and is a waste of energy, you only clench your fists at the last second when you're about to hit the target, I've always punched this way even trained bare knuckle on a heavy bag and no hand injuries.

      Keep your fists curled and when you snap your punch like a whip centrifugal force will form your fist.

  • @bh1422
    @bh1422 3 роки тому +4

    Thank you for mentioning "think speed" because many fighters and coaches never teach that speed is a thought process as much as it is training and developing the fast twitch (type 2) muscle fibres. Technique/form, balance, trajectory of punches are all important to be faster. Most fighters aren't fast not because they don't have the tools but because they don't think speed. It is more demanding on the body because it requires more energy but its what is required.
    Brilliant tutorial, sir.

    One big tip I could lend is relaxing..being tense in your fists and forearms will slow down your punches, and also try to relax your upper back and shoulders. This will not only let you get shots off faster, but prevent you from getting tired in the long run.

    GREAT tips! Thanks coach. A tip from 28 years of karate- Practice in slow motion. Sounds opposite to what you want to achieve but trust me. Its sorta the same as watching a punching technique vid in slow mo...Your brain can process it in more detail than if you go full speed, and you also pay closer attention to your technique because its easier to feel and see if you're off. Give it a shot

      U need to do both.. Muscle memory is very different when doing fast.. Not wrong but fast is very important otherwise u will only throw slow punches.. Think slow push ups and fast push ups, different feeling and is easier than the other.. The balance is different too.

  • @malkindirecttube1731

    another tip is not to clench your fist until just before moment of impact. starting the punch with a hard grip will slow it down, take snap off the end of the punch, and will tire your arms very quickly from lactic acid buildup. Every former Soviet country school of boxing teaches this (russia, ukraine, kazakhstan, etc). Thank you for the channel Anthony, you are doing excellent work! I am originally from Ukraine but am a US citizen and love this country so much and want to see us do well in the Olympics like USA always did a long time ago. The more resources our kids have the better shot they've got and you are part of the solution for this.

      MalkinDirect Tube this' good advice. Is this advice for when it comes to a jab punch, or any other punch?

    • @malkindirecttube1731
      @malkindirecttube1731 5 років тому

      @@topcat365 any punch... to be clear, it's not open hand at beginning of punch. You should wrap your hands in a way that lets you close your hand almost completely or completely without straining hand/forearm muscles, but if you tighten hand just little bit then wrap will be firm/hard. I don't know if i explain this in a way that make sense.

    Tip 7 add weights while shadow boxing . When your using to throwing punches with a 3 pound weight take away that weight and your hands will feel lightning fast
    Then when you work that bag everything Anthony said but stay in your mind move as fast as possible . Recoil as fast as possible. Don’t hit as hard as you can hit as fast as you can ! Good training gents !!

    Underwater punching increases hand speed. Wade in a pool and throw as many punches as fast as you can. Build up to 30 minutes at least twice a week. Water is almost 800 times denser than air. Also the cross feeds the hook and vice versa if you are centered and learn how to fall from foot to foot peripateticaly you will harness effortless power. The difference between being in shape and being in fighting shape....

    Just to help out my fellow subs who don't know this :
    When practicing on heavy bag, "sometimes" punch in a way that only the glove makes contact. (Save your knuckles / tools ) Try to make as loud a pop sound with the glove only, while moving the bag the least amount possible.
    Once your bag work sounds like gunshots while leaving the bag almost completely still, apply it on opponent. For extra power...using same form, punch through target an extra inch or two, or three, etc...mixing with timing and anticipation of where target will be. If possible, punch into the target as opposed to toward the target as it moves away....or adjust accordingly if not possible.
    Snap Punching*

    Do bag drills punching as fast as you can, keep your elbows in don’t stick your elbows out when throwing straight punches you punch than turn wrist 3/4 of the way into the punch. What my coach use to tell me when hitting the bag draw an imaginary rectangle and keep your punches in that rectangle so your punches are as straight as an arrow that’s how I became Sugar Leonard or Meldrick Taylor fast
