I'd be interested in how many set plays you feel one should have for an offense. We've always run more motions and 2-man/2-man + 1 but lately I've seen the benefit of having a few set plays. Thoughts on how many? (I've been brought up in the "less is more" philosophy but am willing to reconsider lol)

2 or 3 tops. The motion is what matters, letting player evaluate and play instead of finding specific looks. Bonus points if the set plays can follow the rules of the motion.

do you have a pdf of 1-4-1 motion and rotation?

What's up David? I don't have any true motions put together quite yet, but there are some things that you can modify. The only true 1-4-1 motions that I have are this, the double mumbo play, and the Cuse motion when you have one attackman on the crease. You can use 21-12 rules depending on how you set up the 1-4-1. For instance, if you want both groups to function evenly, you can run 12 sets where one of the players in each group who would have been on the wing, will play inside on the crease (I call these shifted sets because the player on the wing has shifted to the middle. You see this formation a lot with dodge clear through follow motions). Another way that you can make it work is to have two of the players in one group operate inside. For instance, if you want to start the moton with the Attackman playing outside and the midfielders playing inside, you'll have the individual midfielder top center, both other midfielders on the crease, and the attackman in a regular 12 set. Then, as the play develops, you can do mumbos to get the attackman inside and midfielders outside and vice versa. The key would be to create motions out of those positions that would flow. Hope that helps!
