The University of Alabama, the team with the most storied and richest tradition in college football history.
Thanks for including Roy Upchurch. He was a hard working back that lost playing time to Mark Ingram and never complained. He had a really good game against Tennessee when beating Tennessee meant something.
@smoothcollected im not saying you don't have a point but tony nathan did well in the NFL ,Musso was bamas work horse and then his number 22 went to his local neighbor tony nathan it was a big deal to the fans, especially the east side of the city
I know there's very little actual game footage to use of him, but Johnny Musso should have been on the list. He should've won the Heisman trophy in 1971 over Pat Sullivan- but Bear Bryant refused to do "Heisman campaigns" for his teams. He considered individual awards insults to the other 21 guys on the field. Back then you needed Heisman campaigns to win the award because voters didn't have film of every game to look at and compare. All they had were 1 or 2 nationally televised games a year, and 10 box score stats from newspapers to use. It was up to the school to fund these campaigns and send out their own game tape to the Downtown Heisman Athletic Club for consideration. But sadly, Coach Bryant didn't believe in it. He thought his personal endorsement of a player during press conferences and interviews should be good enough for those people. Johnny Musso was the real deal back in the day. He was the best player in America in the early '70s. He was the "Italian Stallion" long before Sylvester Stallone ever stole the name for his Rocky Balbo character!
Italian stallion was used way before Stallone or Musso.. but yes Musso was the best running back of that era!!! 🔥🔥 I was more into siran Stacy and Sherman Williams.. but damn seeing the old film roll lets me know just how old I am. 🤪
I love that this video features T.J. Yeldon early. He is one of my favorite CFB players ever. He was so exciting to watch because of how agile he was and how he could cut back and turn on a dime. And it so awesome to see Shaud Williams on here. He provided excellent leadership to the team during a tough stretch. And of course he was an amazing RB for the Tide as well.
Kenyan Drake is still my favorite. He is an inspiration. Broke his leg, came back, would get great runs but, could never finish and then, when it mattered most, he did it.
How can you overlook Wilbur Jackson. The man still holds the yards per rush record for the Tide. He won a national championship, and a Super Bowl. Oh - and he was the first black man to play running back for Alabama.
Someone I'd like to mention: the much maligned Linnie Patrick. But when coach Bryant faced the Auburn Tigers in 1981 with the most wins in College football on the line, Linnie made the greatest two runs in Alabama history IMO.
Uncle Joe Derrick Henry, mark Ingram, Bobby Humphrey. Ain't trash in the NFL. I have no idea what you talking about. Ingram producing in new Orleans. Derrick doing his thing in Tennessee. And humprey did his thing in the NFL
Uncle Joe - That sounds like some hurt feelings. This is about Alabama running backs. What does the NFL have to do with this? The game, coaching and motivations are much, much different. For example, Terrell Davis sucked in college and Trent Richardson was a monster. How does that happen?
I know footage is hard to get maybe, but it would be great to see Tony Nathan and Major Ogilvie in there somewhere. Especially when it is best in history.
You should redo the video and add #22 Musso. I never saw a player give as much as a running back for Bama as he did and I saw him play in person at Legion Field.
great job but......Johnny Mack Brown,Tony Nathan, Johnny Musso, Harry Gilmer the list goes on. I understand limited footage but I have found footage of both Musso and Nathan. Youngsters enjoy but Alabama football started way way way before Nick Saban. There are complete games posted on both Musso and Tony Nathan.
He set a record that stands today, most total offense yardage in a single half of football. Versus Boston College. He got hurt, and Flutie rallied his team to beat us in Legion Field.
I agree, this vid is one of, if not the best you have made. The mixture of the older players, with the ones from the last 10 years or so is terrific. And i was just thinking, having the drake kickoff return would be great, then it came on there LOL. Great job man. Keep them coming.
@@tomwolfe6063 - Mark Ingram STARTED playing more at first because Upchurch received a head injury that led the coaches to stop running him in the middle of the field. He was used as a receiving back from there on. When he caught the pass that beat Auburn, he was 3rd string, but not because of any other reason that the head injury.
Good job mentioning Shaud Williams, Dennis Riddle, and Roy Upchurch. Bad job excluding Johnny Musso, Tony Nathan, Major Ogilvie, Wilbur Jackson, Kerry Goode, and Ricky Moore.
Not a single season in the past, present, or future that Johnny Musso wouldn't be deserving of the respect that he had during his playing days. Oh, and he could block as well as he could run. To this day, my favorite Bama tailback. He would fall, crawl, claw, twist, and no matter how hard he was hit, his head always faced the goal line at the end of the play. If you don't know much about Musso, you owe it to yourself to dig up some old games from 69, 70, and 71.
Really? You couldn't include one damn running back from the 1970s when Alabama lived and died by the wishbone. You have Shaud Williams, you have Roy Upchurch, you have Coffee, you have whatever. No Johnny Musso? No Major Ogilive? no Johnny Davis? No Wilber Jackson? Thanks for the memories but you need to do a little more research.
These are the best RB's in recent history (last 40 years or so). I'd like to see another of the greatest RB's from farther back but I think that footage would be hard to find. Good Job! I had forgotten about Darby and Shaud Williams. Good to see highlights from them.

My top 10. 1. Shaun Alexander 2. Eddie Lacy 3. Derrick Henry 4. Mark Ingram 5. Glenn Coffee 6. Trent Richardson 7. Derrick Lassic 8. Siran Stacy 9. Sherman Williams 10. Roy Upchurch
Roy Upchurch had some fantastic hands for a running back. I also believe that the runs against Arkansas as a freshman and the big "stutter step run" against Ole Miss were THE 2 runs that got Trent drafted. Everyone knows how he flaked out in the NFL, but I hated it for him. He's one of those like Tebow that will go down as one of the all-time greatest college players with little to no pro career.

I dont think people give enough credit to TJ Yeldon and what he meant to the bama offense while he was there, although you can say this about every other one of the guys on this list as well. I just think that when it came down to the critical moments, Yeldon always delivered. Out of these guys I definitely think that Derrick Henry will have the best NFL career so long as he stays healthy. He is already starting out great, and the Titans are a young team. Time will tell I guess...
I swear, you post the BEST content!! Always sharing links of your vids to my family. We're all huge bama fans. Always getting me hype!! Roll Tide bro!! #beattheaggies
Bama has had too many great RBs to count over the last 5 decades - Musso, Ogilvie, Humphrey, Stacy, Alexander, Ingram, Lacey, etc. But if I'm going into OT of a national championship game and had to pick only one RB, I'm picking Derrick Henry 10/10 times. It took him a step to get going, but he could have 40 carries, bludgeon a 4th quarter defense to death, and then run circles around the corpses.
Actually Oklahoma and it's not even close. They had a ton of RBs throughout the '70s and early '80s who would have been stars today too. Here's the amazing Joe Washington, and he's not even their best RB: ua-cam.com/video/-lbuUTz2IUY/v-deo.html

Or so alot of the older players and recruiting wasnt the same in the 70s as today. 1) Bobby Humphrey. Man literally was the entire offense in 1987. 2) Henry 3) Ingram 4) Alexander 5) tie with trent Richardson and the Sherman shake.

Shaun Alexander is the best in Bama history no doubt, also his pro career was solid. Derrick Henry is #2 and Bobby Humphrey, Mark Ingram, and Trent Richardson. That's my top 5 👍
No way I’m taking anyone over Henry. Fast forward 4 years 🥶 Henry is a monster
No Billy Jackson????
