    My favorite monologue of all time. I did this at a high school and then college talent show and it KILLED.

    Truly the funniest and most wonderful monologue I've even heard. Deadpan is the apex of comedy, and Peter Cook was the apex of deadpan.

    You know when this tour was going through your country in Broadway, President Kennedy attended during the Cuban Missile Crisis and he even had to have the red telephone with him just as Peter Cook, Dudley Moore, Jonathan Miller and Alan Bennett were performing.

      several of us knew where he was and, regarding the mines, knew that 9/11 was the date that the americans got rid of freedom and democracy in chile. not a lot of people know about that but the latin american miners knew. 'don't be so bloody boring', said the military, or we'll shoot you as well.

    Highly recommend watching Cook's appearance on Clive Anderson where he plays all the guests in character. If you haven't seen it, you're in for a treat!

    The man had so much Latin it was sticking out his enormous ears. But he had better things to do, one imagines. If you ask you're always given it. The very definition of a man on a mission (plus sex element).

    Personally I love this and "anti-comedy" like Neil Hamburger. I was raised on this stuff, and I think it led to my appreciation of the latter.

    A sad but true reflection of British society. Francis Crick joint winner of the Nobel peace prize for discovering the nature of DNA failed to get into Cambridge as a science undergraduate for failing his latin too.

      At school, I was top of my class in Latin but I never became a judge either. Latin really doesn't help you with anything.

    Alec Guinness only got 74% on the mining exam. I know Peter Cook was only playing a part, but even playing it, he wasn't just playing, he was ahead of it.

    Love him and Dud in the film "Monty Carlo or bust". Terry Thomas is also in this film. There are some boring parts with other actors - we fast forward.

    He added to this.... lacks the elements of sex and violence... three nude ladies wandered around the desert, every day they got more violent, every day they got more nude... they fell downs mineshaft and hurled lumps of coal at each other....violently.... then they fell comatose to the floor. Along came a miner, mistook them for lumps of coal, tossed them on a trolly, down a long dark tunnel, and he never saw them again. Brilliant genius

    What a brain. It is difficult to sit and write a story on random stuff and make a good comedy out of it. Today "comedy" is so uncreative that it get boring. Todays "comedians" collect the laughs when they curse couple time per minute.

    I wanted to be a judge but I was not a sick twisted pedo , so I joined the army and earned £40 a week ...... You can buy thousands and thousands of smarties for £40 a week .
