If you're serious about the question 1) do not use company equipment to view these videos. Your IT department probably knows everything that happens on company equipment. If you don't want to run the risk of being found out, don't risk using their network. 2) As long as you're following the first point, be aware of where you view these videos on your own equipment. Many companies have ways to monitor you even in their break rooms. Be aware of this, and act accordingly. I don't say this to scare you, just to inform. Here's my favorite answer that I ever gave to this question. I was currently employed, so they asked why I'd want to leave my current employer to work for them instead. My answer: "Actually, I was kinda hoping you'd give me a reason to do that", with a chuckle. I then followed up with I'd like to grow and learn new things. Yep, I got the job. It had become clear that I had the job by the time they asked that question, though they hadn't actually made an offer. So at that point we were basically setting up for a salary negotiation. They did end up giving me a reason to leave my current job - doubling my take-home pay.

I love the answer you gave for when you are fired. I will take this advice if it ever becomes applicable to me. Thanks for keeping the video short and to the point!
Yeah or alternatively that the place was extremely unsafe, management would sweep things under the rug, lie, place blame on others for issues, and were fired for being a whistleblower basically. What I ended up doing was not including that job on my resume and it never really came up in interviews. But I still listed it on the background check/employment check once I had the job offer so I had CYA in case it ever came up somehow in the future (industry is small). Figured I’d answer to it if they asked why I didn’t include it on my resume or discuss in interviews. They never even asked about it and current job is great.
Not sure if it is a good idea (someone more experienced can comment) but I probably would say something like "The company culture was something I was not ok with. I'm glad to see/have heard/find out that your culture is more in line with mine. I specially like your --- add one of their core values here --- "

I appreciate you sir for posting this I have a job interview later on today I left my previous employment it didn't meet my personal and professional growth in wanting to do more my personality was better suited as a nurse so the opportunity I am interviewing for the company will help me get through medical school to become a nurse
This was really good advice. Wish I had that when I interviewed a couple of years ago from when I left a job because of having to train management that ranked over me, that turned over every few months, the basic customer service skills for the industry they were hired for. Thankfully that was as abhorrent to my hiring managers as I thought it was.
I used the lack of growth and development reasoning actually to explain to my current employer why I quit:) and it was true. I like this one a lot. Very innosent yet very promising.:)
Luckily telling them in my upcoming interview why I left my previous job won't require badmouthing or hiding anything even if I wanted to. There were simply unseen hurdles associated with my position that hadn't been thought through before offering me the job as a remote worker. I want to see the CEO's vision come to fruition whether I am there or not. He's a great dude regardless.
This was the first question I was asked this morning during my first telephone interview with a company recruiter. She asked why I wanted to leave a very well known and established company (this company has over 150,000 employees worldwide and it's a software giant). I told her that I have been working my butt off for the last 4 years and I there is no sign of a promotion or a pay raise. I also added, it was not just me. It's the same case for all the people in my team and department. Not sure I will be asked for a second round interview :).
@@JS-ez2tw , thanks for asking. Actually it went very well. In general, I consider myself a good engineer but I am very bad at jobs interviews; thats why the information Ive found here had a good impact in my overall performance. Now I know it is something you dont have to understand but play. Is like a chess match. You have to study it and get to know the tactics.
This is true even at the low tier entry level jobs. For a time I used to work as a cook at a Chipotle. I got a job at a chain in my state named Bibibop (which is pretty much exactly like Chipotle for people that don't know). I wound up quitting the Bibibop job to take a counter offer from my old manager at Chipotle. I decided to be honest and said some things about my former Chipotle boss that were better left unsaid. Sure enough, I did not get that job haha. It was a great learning experience.

Well, my next interview will be after finishing collage for mechanical engineering. My reason for leaving my previous is simply that I was working at a car wash and isn’t the career path I wanted, just a job to be able to pay for my expenses while in school.

Thank you for your very informative videos. What if the main reason for leaving a job has something to do with work life balance issues such as mandatory long hours of working which causes some of us to get sick or burnt out? Is it ok to tell it to the interviewer?
Truly dangerous question..i fall in some interview coz of this...regardless of my proven skills... It is as if they re focusing on it and disregard other stuff...its upsetting sometimes...
I found out my employer is engaged in willfully negligent and criminal behavior in regards to federal laws and other legal contractual obligations. I was working on a compliance project and getting the runaround on an area of non-compliance which was holding up the project. I basically pushed C-level executives into a corner where they were forced to come out and admit all this to me. 😳 I put in my resignation the next business day. 🤯 I’m nervous about answering this interview question because it has the potential for high drama, but I think I’ll just say “our values were misaligned which created a moral or ethical dilemma for me to continue working there, so I quit.” Thoughts? I’d appreciate your opinion but I also know you’re busy with important things so, trust me, I don’t expect a personal response. That said, while I have your attention, I really appreciate your channel and I think it’s the best interview prep one out there! It’s my favorite by far. So, so helpful. 😊 Thank you!! ❤️
Thanks, Jennifer! Not bad... but, if it were me, I wouldn't mention that - they may see that as a red flag about you (you're a person who finds fault with companies). I'd just leave it at "I'm ready to do more." and then talk about how you're excited to do new things (that coincidentally this new job seems to involve).
@@TheCompaniesExpert Awww, thanks for responding personally! And this is a BRILLIANT answer. I love your videos - I retired from my last job (age 65) but I realise I have skills that are still needed. So how about a video on this ? How to get back to work when spending time at home and feel the need to go out into the work place again ??
Trying to find a polite way of saying "The difference of opinion was that my managers told me to ignore every single safety regulation and blatantly risk both employee and customer safety to the point we made national news as a safety risk and had to shut down"
I am back in the job market and have been binging on your videos. This was a great video with alot of great info. Luckily I loved my last job, is that okay to say?
I had a job interviewer ask me one time, why my previous "job" only lasted for a short time, as if "why couldn't I hang on to those jobs". To my dismay, the interviewer was totally unaware of how "contract jobs" worked, ... and I had spent quite a bit of time on IT contract jobs arounds the country, that generally have a specific amount of time that they need you. And as far as "why did you leave your last job?", ... I had to state, "IT WAS A CONTRACT JOB" (you silly 'uninformed' person). Obviously, this person was totally unaware of "contract jobs", and their contractual time periods.
I think it would help them understand better by describing contract jobs as "project-based" where the nature of employment is to end when the assigned project finishes.
They promoted me, but kept me with the same salary until "the company situation was stable". After 3 months of excuses I got tired and flipped them off. I should have done it earlier

Please do a video about how to explain getting fired to a potential employer. I was fired from my job in July 2020 because a comment I made on my personal Facebook account was screenshotted by somebody who disagreed with me and sent to my employer. They also disagreed with me, and they fired me. I was in good standing with the company. I was a lead, I had no write ups, perfect attendance, and was even in the running for a promotion. I had been there for many years. Now, nearly 7 months later I am struggling to find a job because as soon as I explain what happened, I basically get shooed away. I don’t want to be a burden to society anymore. I want to get back to work. Help
Dont seek salary but work for your own business. You need only to master your craft, To master your craft , then you need to be passionate about doing it 10 hours a day.
I give them truthful, and short answers. Lack of funding, Completed qual testing, Completed cert closure, Relocated for opportunity, Program was cancelled, etc. If they wish to know more, they can ask.
So if the company failed to provide any support to you and were in fact telling you and the client different stories, resulting in you having a mental breakdown, and thus resigning from the position. How do you tell the truth on that without saying that your previous employer failed to support you? (That would count as speaking negatively about someone right)

What if the main reason for leaving a job has something to do with work life balance issues such as mandatory long hours of working which causes some of us to get sick or burnt out? Is it ok to tell it to the interviewer?
Fantastic question
Truly dangerous question..i fall in some interview coz of this...regardless of my proven skills... It is as if they re focusing on it and disregard other stuff...its upsetting sometimes...
I found out my employer is engaged in willfully negligent and criminal behavior in regards to federal laws and other legal contractual obligations. I was working on a compliance project and getting the runaround on an area of non-compliance which was holding up the project. I basically pushed C-level executives into a corner where they were forced to come out and admit all this to me. 😳 I put in my resignation the next business day. 🤯
I’m nervous about answering this interview question because it has the potential for high drama, but I think I’ll just say “our values were misaligned which created a moral or ethical dilemma for me to continue working there, so I quit.”
Thoughts?
I love how you totally side-stepped the issue and redirected the conversation in the direction you want it to go! That’s some ninja 🥷 skills right there! And thanks again for reaffirming for me why I love your channel and think you’re the best!! 😎 Much appreciated! Love from KS ❤️
I love your videos - I retired from my last job (age 65) but I realise I have skills that are still needed. So how about a video on this ? How to get back to work when spending time at home and feel the need to go out into the work place again ??
Trying to find a polite way of saying "The difference of opinion was that my managers told me to ignore every single safety regulation and blatantly risk both employee and customer safety to the point we made national news as a safety risk and had to shut down"
thank you for sharing ..
I am back in the job market and have been binging on your videos. This was a great video with alot of great info. Luckily I loved my last job, is that okay to say?
thank you for the info it really helps
Your channel is great
I had a job interviewer ask me one time, why my previous "job" only lasted for a short time, as if "why couldn't I hang on to those jobs".
Ugh YES. So many IT jobs are 3-9 month contracts and that's it. It's not that I can't hold on to a job you dummy!
I think it would help them understand better by describing contract jobs as "project-based" where the nature of employment is to end when the assigned project finishes.
They promoted me, but kept me with the same salary until "the company situation was stable". After 3 months of excuses I got tired and flipped them off.
I should have done it earlier
Good tips👍
What if you are changing career's altogether. Like I was a truck driver and am currently a bus driver. But I recently graduated college with a degree in medical assisting. How do I answer questions and relate experiences
Fed up with having imbecil superiors I simply left the organization without an actual prospect in front of me. Still looking for a next opportunity.
Thank you! 🙏
love the information but the drums in the background are very distracting
Thanks for watching, TKL!
Nooo I like it
I watch these on 2x so its just a mess for me 😂

Help
Solid advice 👍
Dont seek salary but work for your own business.
You need only to master your craft,
To master your craft , then you need to be passionate about doing it 10 hours a day.
I give them truthful, and short answers. Lack of funding, Completed qual testing, Completed cert closure, Relocated for opportunity, Program was cancelled, etc. If they wish to know more, they can ask.
Great advice
I was very very sick with bronchitis or pneumonia why I called off from work I was sick still taken antibiotics now .
Good advice!
No. YOU are awesome
Agreed fully. You, Sir, are well informed!
So if the company failed to provide any support to you and were in fact telling you and the client different stories, resulting in you having a mental breakdown, and thus resigning from the position.
How do you tell the truth on that without saying that your previous employer failed to support you? (That would count as speaking negatively about someone right)
what's the positive spin on "i was fired because i was sick and my performance levels dropped significantly afterwards." ?
