    So I'm planning on building quite a large project involving 50 furbies from a concept idea notebook from 2011. it involves each furry being tuned and hooked up to a separate key.
    but it didn't go smoothly to start with so i started to build something else. which was a furby with 2 simple bends, but the major difference between this and other circuit bent furbies is its able to be synced to a synthesiser.
    The schematic is at the end of the video! screenshot it, I've omitted any extra components to make it super simple!
    it uses just 2 5v relays. i used EDR201A500 if you type that in on the electronics shop of your choice, or eBay! you'll find it. also you can find the pinout on the data sheet.
    the relays basically just turn on the circuit bends on the furby when there is enough voltage to do so!
    the 2 bends i used are very common and can be found on this site for more info :- circuit-bent.ne...

    I just lost it at the fact that you've had this ridiculous plan complete with concept drawings since 2011.. and now you're going to do it! Holy shit YES. We need the furby organ.

      yeah its coming, no idea how to do it yet, my fear is i might have to replace the insides of the furbies with a voice circuit, probably on arduino nanos to keep it cheap. still gunna need to put 50 arduinos in 50 furbies!! but its going to happen i can tell you that.

    • @netsight
      @netsight 7 років тому +1

      maybe multiplex or shift reg for the arduinos. channel delays are in the n's so no noticeable delay for human audio perception.

    This is amazing! I'm inspired! I'm gonna hook up some wireless Nano shields to a bunch of furbies I've been collecting and set them up around my house, and control them all from a central control panel! Thanks for showing how easy it is to circuit bend them!

    Unless you can cobble together a somewhat stable oscillator out of discrete parts (some 4000 or 74 series logic, resistors, and varicaps might do the trick for cheap), or getting those oscillator chips in bulk, this might get expensive real fast with 50 of the lil monsters.
    My two cents; Check out en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Cat_organ and use that as the basis for an organ (electronic cat toys might be easier to pitch, and cheaper too), then you're free to do other things with the furbies; I'd go with an insane percussion setup; you could dress 'em up as gremlin's. They may not be pitchable, but I bet the samples can be flashed to contain whatever you want. Might be a cool drumsynth. Sequencer on the front, with each step triggering the eyes or something. Add some AR envelope followers and gate inputs, and you got yourself a frighteningly rythmic army of furbies that still retains much of it's furby nature, but is somewhat better to control. These things can swamp a mix up fast without some volume control :)
    Cheers man, thanks for sharing the 1-voice guy, you'll get max polyphony eventually!

    • @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER
      @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER  7 років тому +3

      thanks for the heads up! funnily enough did jack an oscillator circuit to it in 2011. I'm a bit stumped, as i really want the furbies to do their things, thinking of doing arduino nano with a voice circuit for each furby, its cheating a bit, but also retaining the furby as it is with a switch to switch between. its a work in progress! thanks for the info!

    • @devjock
      @devjock 7 років тому +1

      no worries man, just lending the ol' brain :) You might be right about the arduino route. It'll give you somewhat arbitrary scaling for little to no extra cost (well, reflashing, but that can be streamlined). Can't get that with fixed oscillators per note, so you got a plus right there.
      Anyway, I'm rambling again. Can't wait to see what you'll come up with. Cheers!

    • @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER
      @LOOKMUMNOCOMPUTER  7 років тому +7

      oh you wait till the furby organ is built! 9 times out of 10 anyway, broken furbies arent really broken, usually just a simple fix. UNLESS they have previously been circuit bent! its probably harder to find a properly broken furby than a working one, to be honest i only buy ones that are described as broken, because they always work! (unless they have been owned by someone who has done what ive done to them)
