I was dozing on my bed listening to a classic music radio station and this came on. Very refreshing and enjoyable.
Was fortunate today (6/Oct/24) to see and hear Ms Montero perform this live in Edinburgh, with the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra, conducted by Elim Chan, absolutely magical performance, total keyboard mastery, and great personality, hope she pays us a return visit soon.
Thanks to Fred Child's PT show I heard something in modern composition that was a breathtaking revival of emotional power.
That Concerto is outstanding! Thank you so much for taking the time to arrange this intrepid piece.
I hope you experienced the joy in creating it, for it is utterly brilliant.
It’s really rare that I sit transfixed with my mouth wide open by a video on UA-cam, but this was such an occasion. I was making bread at the time I watched this and I always need something to entertain me whilst kneading the dough, but this piece of music actually made me stop and watch until the end. Wonderful! Jus the sort of music that I love. You know that it’s good when you catch individual members of the orchestra and even the conductor smiling when they’re not playing. I had to think of Shchedrin 2nd piano concerto at times during the first movement. ANy influence there? And that middle movement...just out of this world. Thank you, thank you and thank you again for this gem!!
A fine concerto in the "grand manner", flawlessly played. Brava Gabi!
Gabi's genius is a source of endless wonder and amazement! Thank you for sharing it with us, dear Gabriela! Always your huge fan:) And the Orchestra of the Americas with Maestro Prieto make this performance one for the ages. So lucky we are.
I am in awe.
Montero, Gershwin Prokofiev, Bernstein, Mozart, Bach,
I have listened to this three times now, and need to go to bed, unfortunately I'm going to listen again...and cry myself to sleep I guess! Thank you so, for this bit of unbridled pathos and joy Miss Montero. I can not wait for what comes next!!!
Excellent!! I am so happy this is available... I went to Carnegie Hall when you played this and had the Honor to listen "Live' what a wonderful experience. Your mastery of the Piano is exceptional and Genious!! Thanks for bringing our Loved Venezuela whatever you go..What a great representation!! You are our native Mozart... The Genius of our Generation...
was it with the National Youth Orchestra?
Now _that's_ how you write a modern piano concerto! An instant favorite.
¡Excepcional!
Composer actually playing the piano...... can't get better than this.
Just saw this live in the front row. Amazing
30 minutes well spent. What a stunning performance Gabriela. You even made this feel like an improvisation!
Gabriela Montero, as we admire her, is a bird of paradise. Her genius on the piano is nothing else but a musical nest filled with golden eggs which, as soon as the morning sunshine touches them, unleash graceful images of heaven that can be heard or seen only with a heart predisposed to enjoy Beauty. Two thumbs up, and kisses from my heart, too, for Gabriela Montero's Piano concerto No. 1, the "Latin". Graceful touch from Maestro Carlos Miguel Prieto and the Orchestra of the Americas.
My favorite piece of music! This is incredible- it has every mood, nuance, and emotion you want in a piece of music. Tremendous talent- both as a pianist and composer! Keep making music! ❤
Very very beautiful. Gershwin, Ravel, some Prokoviev and a bit of Bach. A wonderful resume of the last five hundred years of music in latin stile!
I just discovered this last night, WOW. And I agree... I also detected all of those influences of all those composers you mentioned! I am right now studying all of them except Ravel (I play Debussy's "Deux Arabesques" so that's in the ballpark!). And listening to this I couldn't help but wonder how much she has studied Ginastera. I play his "Danzas Argentinas" and when I got to the 2nd Movement of this Piano Concerto I almost cried! This is truly a Masterwork.
You forget about Piazzolla :-)
A little bit Bartok too imho
Immediately engaging & brilliant & also quite moving when thinking of Latin America today, especially your beloved Venezuela.
On CD now and on its way to my door

Ángela James Montero plays Montero, creo. ¡También está en Spotify!
Excelente Gabriela gracias.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Bravo! Bravo! She has contrived to compose a work of quality and enjoyment which I had not heard from a modern composer since Bernstein. The latter's influence plus Rachmanninoff, Gershwin ,Prokofiev are there but Gabriela has put her own special stamp on the finished work. We await P.C.No.2 from this artist who is so enjoyable to watch and listen to.
Hacia años no escuchaba algo tan Bello. No he parado de escucharte! Gracias por hacer vivir a la música!!! Bendiciones y mis mejores deseos siempre!!!!
Latinamerican swing the best it can get! With the composer herself at the piano...
Monumental! Thank you!
Bravo excelente mucho talento
Excelllent piano concerto! Exciting!
Bravo!!
Maravilloso! Me encanta.
👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
Very very nice!
Hermosa pieza gabriela
she kicks ass !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Brava!!!!!!!!!

Also makes me think of the late Keith Emerson.
There’s a lot one could say about this piece, but I think it would be better if I listen to it a few more times first. But for brief impressions, I think Romero’s facility at improvisation contributes to the soaring and free character of her phrases. She’s also is a master of instrumental color.
Thrilling, and at moments elegiac, pero siempre apasionada, energética y dinámica. I don’t know if I can sleep tonight!
👏👏👏👏
I'm feeling the spirit of Bernstein somewhere in there.
@@Sam-qq2em Montero doesn't have to meet composers to know their style. She has the gift already in her to improvise and compose.
True...
I heard that, too!
No sale el audio!
NYO2!
