I’ve got a very clear Top 4 of Portugal, Lithuania, Switzerland and Italy in order.
Followed by Croatia and France which are pretty set in their positions. Then to round out my Top 10 i’ve got Serbia, Azerbaijan, Greece and Netherlands all being very interchangeable at this point…

I feel the same, the quality is generally high, but there are few songs I really like personally. Greece, Latvia, France, Chechia, Portugal are the ones for me.

    Here are my top 10.
    10. Switzerland
    9. Serbia
    8. Estonia
    7. Italy
    6. Spain
    5. Ukraine
    4. Belgium
    3. Portugal
    2. Greece
    1. Norway.
Except number 1-3, most of the rest of the songs can change position any day.
I do agree. This year isn't weak, but it brings hardly any songs that really makes me say
    Play it again!!

Love your Top and personally i love this year's line-up too. So many creative, unique and strong entries, either uptempo or slower songs, diversed genre wise and with a large portion of authenticity and ethnic feel. My Top-7 are all songs in their native language and i can't recall when was the last time i came close to such a number. Also, the fact that we don't have an ultra favorite but instead almost 10 songs with a shot at winning the whole thing, makes it even more exciting. I really wish we get tons of impressive, monumental stagings under SVT production and may the best wins.
My Top-10 (i would love a scenario where any of my Top-8 wins):
    1) Greece
    2) Netherlands
    3) Norway
    4) Serbia
    5) Italy
    6) Portugal
    7) Armenia
    8) Switzerland
    9) UK
    10) Croatia

2024 is definitely one of my fav years (for now), mainly just because it's such an open year with no clear winner, just big favourites, and I always love a competitive year. My top 10 would go:
    10. San Marino - Megara - 11:11 - I love rock, so it had to be there one way or another.
    9. Norway - Gate - Ulveham - It's soo good, Not for everyone as half of it is just yelling, but again rock wins my heart and I'm so looking forward to seeing this live in May.
    8. Belgium - Mustii - Before the Party's Over - I only have one issue with this song, and that's the very repetitive ending. Otherwise, it's completely up my ally - Dark, Great building in the verses, the choruses flow so nicely just an overall good package.
    7. Australia - Electric Fields - One Milkali (One Blood) - I think I'm the only person in the Eurovision Community who likes this song, Why? I couldn't tell you. Something in this just hits within me.
    6. Italy - Angelina Mango - La Noia - Basically everything you said Groot, definitely my fav from the Big 5.
    5. Portugal - Iolanda - Grito - Portugal always hits the mark, and this is no different. The whole song builds to the high note so well, and that final calming chorus actually gives me chills a bit such a nice ending to wrap the song up.
    4. Lithuania - Silvester Belt - Luktelk - Just a great song, Very catchy, Love the chorus, Nothing more can be said Lithuania hit gold with this song.
    3. Croatia - Baby Lasagna - Rim Tim Tagi Dim - It has to be, The big fav of this year and its so addictive would not be upset if this won, however it isn't quite my own winner.
    2. The Netherlands - Joost Klein - Europapa - Fun, Energetic, Televote magnet, And that ending wraps it up so nicely and gives it even more meaning, Hope it's in the Eurovision version in May.
    1. Switzerland - "Lord" Nemo - The Code - You said everything yourself Groot, What can be said about perfection it's the most complete package with the most to offer from this year and I genuinely can't wait to see this in May, All hail Lord Nemo 👑
And a special mention to: Luxembourg - Tali - Fighter
Estonia - 5miinust and Puuluup- Long Title Song
France - Slimane - Mon Amour
Greece - Marina Satti - Zari
Also, big Favs of mine, but I just don't have room in my top 10.

I like this year and got into it faster than last year - Croatia, Estonia, France, Switzerland, Greece, Armenia, Ireland, Slovenia, Lithuania. I like Latvia and Italy too. There's not much I don't like and the ballads are all better than the crushing dullness that was Estonia and Lithuania last year.

We actually have the same top 2 ! Though Greece is actually my winner, it's honestly one of the most addictive esc songs I've ever heard. Switzerland is of course just as great to be honest, when I heard it the first time I was quite perplexed but likewise after a few listens it managed to hook me completely. Then, the rest of my top 10 from 3 to 10 is as follows : Lithuania, Ukraine, Italy, Portugal, Armenia, Slovenia, Estonia and Poland.

This year, my personal Top 10 was a bit easier to get together as in recent years, and for once, at least my Top 5 matches quite well with the official odds, which is normally not the case: 1. Switzerland, 2: Croatia, 3. Ukraine, 4. Greece, 5. Italy, 6. Latvia, 7: Armenia, 8. Belgium, 9. Estonia, 10. Portugal. Btw: France, Lithuania, Norway and Serbia are in my Top 20.
Italy is normally not in my Top 10, I found their songs in recent years mostly overrated and their male performers often a bit too focused on themselves. But „La noia“ is different, this song has such a nice flow, it’s structure is complex, but it seems so joyful and effortless, so creative and inviting, and Angelina has just the right attitude, to put the focus on the song and not on herself. Also Greece is mostly not seen in my Top 10 with the exception of 2018 and 2019. I would not have expected such a rather ambitious and risky entry from them - so kudos to Greece. Nemo’s song „The code“ has a similar creative mixture of music genres and also comes by surprise from a country like Switzerland. But Nemo is also telling a personal story here in a convincing and touching way, and of course I’m proud of my home country to send an entry that would deserve to win the contest.

sharing my top 11 because there's 11 that i feel I could put in my top 10
    1) Estonia
    2) Norway (what i think this needs to be my very favourite is more intensity in the chorus, just add some more instruments to make it go all out)
    3) Greece
    4) Switzerland
    5) Italy
    6) Spain
    7) Netherlands
    8) Lithuania
    9) Armenia
    10) Ireland
    11) Belgium
so just the ballads from Latvia, Serbia and France in your top 10 but not mine - Latvia I appreciate seeing in the top 10, especially as most people put it near the bottom, but I guess it's a bit too standard for me to put it there
Serbia and France are solid songs, but i don't connect personally with the songs or performers, and for a song as minimalistic as Ramonda or Mon Amour there's even more riding on being convincing atmospherically and in terms of the tone you strike melodically to win me over, and for these songs I see why they they do that for other people (Ramonda is reaching that tone in the build up section but not quite in the chorus itself) but they're not quite all the way there for me

This was my first time watching your channel, so it was a ride trying to predict what your next pick would be 😆Loved hearing commentary about the instrumentals of the songs - as much as I appreciate the vocals, when I'm listening, I care about the production and the instrumentation 🤓
    My top 10:
    10. It's really in between Lithuania, Serbia, and Austria right now - my top 12 is like my top 10 with how good this year is 😭
    9. Norway
    8. Armenia
    7. Ukraine
    6. Estonia
    5. Italy 💃
    4. Portugal ❤‍🔥
    3. Croatia 😸
    2. Greece 🎲
    1. Netherlands🕺

Unlike you, I think this is a pretty fun and interesting year all together with a lot of interesting concepts scattered throughout many of the songs. I notice this a lot actually we disagree quite a lot when it comes to the overall quality of certain years. Surprisingly, I have exactly 10 songs that I feel comfortable putting into my top 10 lol. Usually it's not like this but it's nice to have a complete top 10, well at least of songs. Though the songs are consistent, the order of those song are most definitely not. I'll list my 10 favorite songs here in no particular order cause I can't really be bothered to rank them as my list will probably be different tomorrow.

OMG I ALWAYS LOVE WATCHING YOUR REVIEWS YOU HAVE NO IDEA DJDJDKDKR
My top 3 is 1. Switzerland, 2. Norway and 3.Estonia, so seeing Estonia in your top 3 as well is the highlight of my day LMAO and you're so right, there's a total difference of a fun song, and a joke entry. And that song is just total fun! And you just want to join them! And the use of their Estonian instrument is actually great, and it reminds me of a Greek instrument we use here called "Lyra" (the Cretan version being the most known one, and also of the back sea one called Kemence) and it has like the exact same sound, so it really reminds me of a wedding party or something:p and the dance as well is amazing! I really wish they slay the audience votes. Thanks again for the great review!:)

    Hello ^^
Love to watch those reviews. I enjoy how much Groot always has to say about the songs.
This is how my (highly subjective) Top 10 looks: (I wrote this comments in order from down to up)
    1. Croatia, Baby Lasagna- Rim Tim Tagi Dim
The people who know me and my taste will not be surprised by this Placing. This Song instantly grabbed me with my first Time listening to it. And that was expecttable considering how much I love Rock Inspired Songs. This song almost feels like it was perfectly crafted together for my Taste. It doesn´t need its time to get powerful, but instead just instantly gives you the full esperience and goes directly straight into your Face. The guitar Riffs are beyond epic, and even for my usualy love for those they are absolute Top-Tier. They didn´t need to actually even top this entry with including the little Beat Drop Instrumental in the 2nd half of the song, but they still did and here I am praising it. It didn´t take me long to realize this was going to be my Favourite Song of the whole season, and will very likely stay there. So far this whole description might still sound like a Normal random rock Song, but when you then begin to study the full Lyrics and the context of this song and watch the music Video you will realize there is actually a lot of reality and seriousness behind it. Which might be one of the reasons it is one of the big Favourites the whole thing.
    2. Estonia, 5miinust feat. puuluup- Drug Song
Absurdity at its absolute best. Every year there seems to this one song in Eesti Laul that either is completely weird or instead just doesn´t fear to go all out and edgy. This is whats the case here, and I can only say im all in for it. Beginning with the theme and concept of the song. Have we ever got an entry basically singing about a Drug Raid at a Homeless People place, that sounds so absurd, but its freakin Awesome. However they did not left it just on that weirdness. But they actually developed a fully working package here. Including some brilliant Instrumental elements, and not to forget this ridicously awesome Dance- Choreography. In a discussion with a Friend we once came to the joke to call this entry a "Jerk-Rave", which I think might actually really be the perfect description for it. All those 6 guys are also Awesome/cool performers, all bringing in their own characteristics.
And finally, as the cherry of the cake, this song is fully in Estonian and considering my Love for this Language in Eurovision Entries that makes it even better.
A lot People will disagree with me here, but I think this entry actually is a Masterpiece.
    3. Italy, Angelina Mango- La Noia
I have already talked about some strong and charismatic artists here. But so far none of them can reach Angelina on this Point. This song is Fantastic on its own already, but with the charismatic way she performs it the entry gets elevated even more. Sanremo this year was, once again, an absolute Feast of Brilliant songs, and still this one was my winner of it.
Italy just never fails to give us Brilliant entries with a lot of character to them. Which is one of the reasons why they basically almost always place in my Top 10 since 2017, and even before they often where. Another aspect I have to mention here too ofc. is their Language. Italian has just such a magnificent tone to it that always gets me.
    4. Malta, Sarah Bonnici- Loop
Surely this will be the Placing most people will disagree on with me. I can´t exactly describe why, but this song instantly catched my attention when I reviewed the MESC songs in January.
Beside that Banana song it was the only thing that stood out to me. Its probably my Favourite classic Pop-Banger of the year, which has many reasons. First of all I think this song has a lot of Power and Drive to it. Secondly I absolutely love the structure of the song and how it uses elements like drops in it. Also, so far its another of those Songs that we already know something about the Performance, and so far Im hugely impressed by it. Sarah seems to really put this song on another level, she has charisma, can move to this well and most of all she is also vocally very strong, which is not always the case with those Type of Songs.
    5. Netherlands, Joost Klein- Europapa
I did know Joost and his music before, as he had an massive hit here in Germany last summer. And so I was extremely hyped when he suddenly was announced as Netherlands Eurovision Act.
And I can definitely say he did not disappoint here. This mix of Rap and Techno is something can usually catch me with, especially when it is in Dutch, because Im a massive lover of upbeat songs in that Language. My Favourite Part of this Song is the Drop after the 2nd Chorus, that one just absolutely slaps massively.
Many people might consider this song to be a Joke entry, but if you look at the lyrics and the context around the story of his parents then one will see that it absolutely is not. It has a very deep and important message to it, underlined by that wonderful end Part.
    6. Cyprus, Silia Kapsis- Liar
This seems to be my year of enjoying Female-Bops. With this song it only took me one listening and it instantly went up in my Ranking. Just love everything about this song. It has an incredibly catchy hook, an even more enjoyable chorus and gives me a lot of positive Feelings. Could be considered as a bit Flat, but for me this Song just works perfectly
    7. Lithuania, Silvester Belt- Luktelk
Just a perfect execution of a modern Electro-Pop Track. You will always receive my appreciation when Including those type of Bass-Beats in the Background like they are used here.
Its is just such an enjoyable and refreshing track, and its gets even better due to the Fact of being completely in Lithuanian
    8. Switzerland, Nemo- The Code
When hearing this song for the first time I really didn´t know what I was actually listen to there. It took me some time, but after that I began to absolutely love it. Its cool to see how well so much chaos, and so many elements, can work together in one Song so well. In one moment you have Opera Vocals, the next second Rap, and then suddenly a Hectic Pop Part. Nemo also sings it so incredibly well, their handling of the Vocals is Fantastic. I would absolutely not mind seeing this winning.
    9. Sweden, Marcus & Martinus- Unforgettable
Rather a standardized Pop-Banger from Sweden, but it just works for me. The song is beyond catchy, has some very cool electronic instrumentals in the background and always gets me hooked. Also, looking at the Performance, it so far might be one of my Favourites of the year. The first time in many years my winner of Melodifestivalen was choosen
    10. Belgium, Mustii- Before the Party´s over
This song mainly impresses me by how will it manages to create such a perfect Build-Up. Starting very slow and laid back it gets a bit more power over the song, and then the Song really kicks
with the last Part. That last ~1 Minute of the song is just so damn intense and brings over so much of emotion. It could seem weird considering that those are basically only 2 Lines always repeating themselves, but somehow Mustii manages that they stiil sound epic. I also love the Idea of using Fans voices for the Background choir here.

Honourable mention to my country's (Finland) entry, our guys are just such a joy and I enjoy 90's music!

It makes me so glad to see that you enjoy Estonia alongside all the more "polished" songs like Greece and Belgium. All 3 of these are diverse songs with real creativity and heart in them and it makes me happy to see them all appreciated. This is the joy of Eurovision in my opinion - being able to enjoy all sorts of different songs in the same place.
I think this year is very open, and its greatest strength is its diversity. That might also be its weakness - there's not a large amount of any genre for fans of a particular genre, but for those like me that like a lot of different genres, it's a great bonus! And then your favourite is the song that combines two genres masterfully... Switzerland is up there for me, too! My favourite is Ireland, though - it appeals to my gothic side. I wish we could have more gothic-style songs in Eurovision.

Love that your picks include Estonia and Latvia! 7 in your top 10 are also in my top 10. I like this year. There are too many female pop entries with dance breaks (the Chanel effect?) but on the other hand, there are lots of non-English entries that authentically represent their country. Examples: Armenia, Norway, Azerbaijan, Greece, France entries feel thoroughly Armenian, Norwegian, Azerbaijani, Greek and French. Looking forward to Semi 1 later today!
    Favorites:
Estonia - ancient folk instruments, the deep voice of the bearded guy, the dance-off in a post-soviet dark alley, love it!
Norway - folk metal with nordic atmosphere, amazing vocals.
Croatia - catchy, high energy, cultural flavor (costumes), poignant lyrics.
Serbia - gorgeous melody, great vocals.
Italy - catchy, lots of attitude, great vocals.
Latvia - moody atmosphere, melancholic, smooth vocals.
    Like it:
Australia - warm "we're all in this together" vibe, bonus points for including 0.618 in a song lyric.
Belgium - dramatic, great final chorus.
France - passionate delivery, amazing vocals.
Finland - this year's guilty pleasure, catchy, 90s retro sound, and the "No Rules (Rules Applied Version)" video is hilarious.
    Like it but....
Greece - the "ta ta ta" is awful, the rest is great.
Switzerland - incredible vocals, interesting song parts individually but don't come together to make a musical whole, feels too cerebral, too manufactured for effect.
Azerbaijan - smooth vocals, ethnic flavor, but a bit bland.
Ukraine - the melody parts are gorgeous, the rap is good on it's own but the two parts clash.
    Just OK:
Lithuania - good club song, great dance beat, but nothing more.
Armenia - half of a good song, starts out well but doesn't go anywhere and gets repetitive.

Don't think there were too many surprises in your top ten, Groot!
I agree with you that this year isn't the greatest. I'm probably only really like about 12 of the songs, and in most Eurovision years, that number would be closer to 20. Maybe some more will grow on me? Who knows?
Six of them are also in my top ten, and my entire top three were included here, so I am happy. I think eight of the songs you chose here were in my top fifteen with only Latvia and Belgium not being particular favourites of mine.

What a pleasant surprise that my country (Lithuania) is on your top!!! 🎉🎉🎉When you watched the Lithuanian final, I thought you hated Luktelk because you like it 🙂 it's nice that Lithuanian singers impressed you this year 🙂 I myself try not to listen to Eurovision songs too much, so as not to have too high expectations. Some I've only heard once, others I've watched pre-party as well. For today, I like Switzerland the most. The Armenian song makes me smile - it reminds me of the old Indian movies I used to watch in the cinema with my mother when I was a little girl. This year there are a lot of "summer" songs where girls will compete to see who sings better and who dances better. I love Ukrainians, but unfortunately the song is nothing new, and one girl's voice sometimes hurt the ear during live performance. Here are some of my rambling thoughts.😂

Three of your top 10 match mine - Belgium, Italy and France. More than I'd have expected tbh. 😉 - On a more serious note, I find the Swiss song to be a total case of the emperor's new clothes. It is a ludicrous collage that is as self-indulgent as it is clunking. I am not hearing that flow you hear. For me the overload is almost insultingly crude and I just tune out. - It is not the worst song of the year, that would be NL, but it is in my "avoid" level. However, it will probably win, so you can have the last laugh. 👍

My top 37 of ESC 2024:
37: Israel: I just can’t rank this one highly. With everything going on with them right now I really don’t feel like I can support them competing and thus I can’t support this entry. And the song itself isn’t that great. It is pretty generic and like an X-Factor winner ballad which isn’t what ESC represents to me musically. Eden has a spectacular voice though and I wish her the best of luck and experience in Malmo despite all the terrible stuff her country is doing. 4/10.
36: Albania: the revamp ruined this for me. It reduced the little impact it has before and just made it lose all its sole. Her voice is great though gut I feel the revamp really missed the mark majorly. 5/10.
35: Iceland: solid performance but a bland nothing of a song that is good but doesn’t do anything for me. 5.5/10.
34: Moldova: this song has interesting elements and a good vocal but it just feels very disjointed and flat at the minute. Unfortunate because this song had potential to be amazing with such a sorting vocalist. 6/10.
33: UK: I don’t mind this. It is solid in all categories. Olly is amazing but this song is a bit disappointing tbh, I wish it was more akin to much of what he did in Years and Years and he old have won Eurovision with something like that. 6/10.
32: Poland: I love the mysterious feel to it but I wish it leaned more into it. It feels more like a demo and too radio friendly to really make ani moscato on me. The lyrics are interesting though at least. 6/10.
31: Austria: this song is really dated and trashy and I do love how it leans into that part of itself and she is great but the song is nothing close to my style and it is just too cheesy for me (that video makes it so much worse) even though again it is a fun, solid entry. 6/10.
30: Czechia: the studio cut is amazing but live it doesn’t hit. I love Aiko and how this song doesn’t feel composed for ESC and really unique to her and its attitude. It is also so close to my thing and so catchy. Sad the performance is pretty weak vocally but she has time to work on it so it is probably going to be improved in Malmo. 6.5/10.
29: Denmark: great voice and performance but the song just hasn’t entirely connected with me yet. It will be a grower live though hopefully. 6.5/10.
28: Germany: I like this entry loads. His vocals are incredible especially live but the rest of the performance needs major changes to do anything in Malmo. The song itself has just a very anthemic feel to the chorus that makes it get stuck in your head and the instrumental is also quite punchy but it just doesn’t really stand out a whole lot which is ok. It does everything it needs to do well. 7.5/10.
27: Luxembourg: the performance is incredible and really changed my opinion on this entry. I love it to bit and the mix of French and English is so infectious and the song has a good beat that is just a head bopper. 7.5/10.
26: Netherlands: this is a really fun entry with a deep message to boot. I also love Joost and how his personality and artistry comes through in this entry without anything being restrained. Such a big party anthem that is impossible not to groove ot even if it is not my typical style and the contrast between the sound and lyrics is sometimes too much for me. 7.5/10.
25: Latvia: this is incredible. His voice is so deep, rich and incredible and he really makes the song. I also love the mysterious feel of the entry that really captivates me every time I see it live but it doesn’t necessarily deliver the same impacts in the studio cut. 7.5/10.
24: Azerbaijan: his voice is so amazing and captivating as is the sound. Shoutout to that incredible ethnic singer as well, his vocals really gave me chills and made it feel really Azerbaijani until I realised it was in Azerbaijani in the chorus at least (misheard it as English initially lol). So glad they are starting to show this side of themselves even if this isn’t going to qualify. 7.5/10.
23: Finland: this is really amazing and funny live but in the studio cut it doesn’t have that same impact even though it is still incredibly fun and entertaining to watch. It also feels really genuine to the artist as well which is amazing and the vocals are also amazing in both the studio cut and live. 8/10.
22: San Marino: this is incredible, this song just exudes all the energy, sass and power I look for in a female-led rock tune and it does that amazingly. The song and vocals are just so punchy and amazing even if the performance needs work to really shine. 8/10.
21: Spain: the message of this song is unique and incredible and I love the unashamed 80s feel to it which is so my thing and just makes me dance every time I hear it even if the performance could have been done a lot better. The song is also incredibly catchy. 8/10.
20: Malta: this song blew me away the first time I saw it live. Everything about it just gave me pop star in the making vibes and blew me away. The song itself isn’t as good but it is still really great and the revamp made some really great improvements to the overall package it really needs to shine. 8.5/10.
19: Ireland: this is dark, epic and mysterious in the best way. It is dark and brooding but it still invites you into its soundscape from the first second and never leaves you. Her voice is incredible and it was actually amazing live and it also feels genuine to her experience as well which is a great touch. 8.5/10.
18: Australia: this is incredible. I am so happy with this choice for us as it shows out culture for once and everything within it just works ot highlight that. It sounds incredible and the vocals are the same and I love its minimalist 80s vibe that makes it truly feel captivating and unique for this year. I really hope we stay so we can send more masterpieces like this in the future. 8.5/10.
17: Sweden: this is just polished pop perfection and produced incredibly with a mindblowing and polished performance to boot. Sweden knows how to do Eurovision and I love the, and this for that. 9/10.
16: Greece: I love how chaotic and unique this entry is. It also feels very genuine to Marina and Greece as it shows off their beautiful language and her voice is captivating especially when she sings in that haunting ethnic tone. 9/10.

    • @aijamberisabel
      @aijamberisabel 6 місяців тому +16

15: Georgia: this is incredible. Her voice is amazing and just gives me chills. The song is also produced incredibly and really feels like it is genuine to her style and artistry and she looks amazing, almost like a Georgian Jess Glynne lol. 9/10
14: Estonia: this is incredible. I love the message and how deep and relevant it is. The song is also a real party from start to finish that I can’t resist every time while being really feeling Estonian and genuine ot the artists. This is why I love Eurovision. 9/10.
13: Cyprus: this song is incredible. I was expecting nothing short of a bop from Silia and she delivered. The song is produced incredibly and catchy. She also really makes the song with her incredible presence, looks and charisma especially for such a young singer. She has a huge future ahead of her for sure. 9/10.
12: Lithuania: this is such a bop and so deep lyrically. The production is divine and slick as are his voice. This also feels very genuine to his artistry and the performance is incredible. I also love the mix of 80s with modern sounds and the futuristic feel it has which makes it feel truly unique compared to other entries this year. 9.5/10.
11: Armenia: this song is a bop. It is so Armenian and just incredible in every way while being modern at the same time. Armenia never disappoints and this song shows that. 9.5/10.
10: Switzerland: this is so chaotic and different and incredible. I love his fashion and artistry and how he is just so unafraid to express himself and the video shows that as does the song. The songs lyrics really move me ot tears as they relate to me so much and made the song connect with me even more. This entry just epitomises my love for Eurovision and it just whacks you in the face with its intensity and just captivates you from first to last second. 10/10.
9: Serbia: this is just beautiful. The symbolism of the lyrics makes the heartbreaking yet inspirational message of the song clear which is amplified by everything around it really letting them shine. It really moves me to tears every time and is way too short for its own good. It also feels very Serbian which is the cherry on top. 10/10.
8: France: his voice is incredible and really displays the agony and desperation within the song that just moves me to tears every time. This man is way too good live and really sells this entry that is just a perfect fit for him as it is grand and haunting in every way. 10/10.
7: Ukraine: this is just captivating and heartbreaking. Its message is relevant and heartbreaking and the song just has a captivating, almost hymn-like quality to it while bring Ukrainian and modern. The rapping is also amazing and really glues the whole song together. It overall moves me to tears that just feels way too short every time (which all the songs have from now on tbh). 10/10.
6: Portugal: this is just captivating. The lyrics are heartbreaking and captivating as is the song which is simple and does everything it needs to do to be incredible and portray its heartbreaking message that truly brings me to tears. Portugal always brings quality and this is no different. The performance is incredible and so uniquely Portuguese. 10/10,
5: Croatia: the lyrics of this song are so meaningful and the energy is too palpable for me to resist. This is the perfect workout song and a song that blows my mind in terms of production and that it is truly his vision since he performed, arranged and produced this song himself. He is truly an artist and this song is just such a bop and so catchy. Well done Croatia! This is my fave entry from you in a while maybe ever. 10/10.
4: Italy: I love this. She just exudes so much sass and confidence and the song is just so infectious and amazing, enhanced by her amazing and chilling vocals. And with that the lyrics are also unexpectedly deep for this style of song which is an amazing bonus. 10/10.
3: Belgium: everything about this is perfect. His voice is so unique as is the song that makes it so unique and chilling. I love the mystery of the instrumental enhanced by everything around it that sweeps me up every time. 10/10.
2: Slovenia: this is incredible. The lyrics, the vocals, the instrumental, the story, the progression. Everything just sweeps me up in its epicness and it leaves me speechless every time by its brilliance. 10/10.
1: Norway: this song represents everything that ESC is to me. INCREDIBLE AND PERFECT IN EVERY WAY. Gunhild’s voice is out of this world and the song is just epic as is the performance and the lyrics are so dark but deep. This is the epitome of perfection and Eurovision to me. This is my fave Norwegian entry ever honestly. 10/10
This year is incredible. Every song has something everyone likes (even Isr@3l if you are discounting the situation) and is just so unique to one another. I will have watching in May because I know so many of my faves will be so robbed in the end. This year just shows how good Eurovision can be and how pretty much all of the countries have come with their A-game make this one of the strongest years ever, or dare I say, a bloodbath. Live performances will be everything so this top will surely change after all the songs are performed live. Interesting to see what you think of this year as it is so different to me and the fandom. I definitely get where you are coming from as there is so much sonic diversity that don’t really focus too heavily on your niche (production) and that is totally fine. It is very interesting to hear your opinions on the songs this year and I do eventually hope that you have enough motivation at some point to make a top 37 maybe after the show after some songs grow on you from the performances which will 100% happen. We are bound to disagree on everything so feel free to comment down here on your opinions on my overall top (that has also changed since I typed it out around 3 weeks ago).
