I got into jazz guitar from my classical guitar teacher. He told me to get the Johnny Smith approach to guitar. I also have many of Johnny Smith's recording, and i have to say he was an amazing player. A frequent visitor to Birdland NYC on nights Johnny Smith played was Charlie Parker.

It is C# minor. I can understand that C minor is easier, however, on the guitar, because of nature of the instrument it does not make too much of a difference technically speaking, so why not respect the original key of the tune?
@@stephenpepper1790 Yes that is true, instead I should have said Coltrane played it in C#min but I'm going to teach it in Cmin because all Real Books and such, are in Cmin. It is rarely played in C#min for that reason. In addition, it is meant to be a guitar chord melody arrangement which is a lot more guitar friendly in Cmin. 🙂

That's a great tune but too difficult for most when it comes to playing the chord melody version, so I didn't include it.

definitley C# minor. Almost every lessonon this song are in C minor, I guess its easier to think about; no sharps or flats and all that......
@@pzarelli75 C minor has three flats. C# minor is indeed the original key. 4 sharps or 5 when playing dorian on the I chord.
