  • Bear Independent shows you what you actually need in your Individual First Aid Kit (IFAK). Using the MARCH-E acronym (Massive bleeding / Airway / Respiratory / Circulation / Head injuries - Everything else), he discusses how to deal with massive injuries and severe bleeding.
Barry recommends North American Rescue products as well as other high-quality medical supplies. In this video, he shows you the different IFAK kits he recommends you carry, what to stock them with, and why you need them. In addition, Barry shows you how to use a tourniquet. Watch now to learn everything you need to know about IFAKs!

I am a 64 yo female that is 5 months post ACDF spinal surgery. I live in Santa Rosa CA (think numerous fault lines and apocalyptic urban wildfires). Thank you for your incredibly helpful info as I prepare our GOOD bags, I need all the help I can get. God Bless.

If one is going to carry anything more than a basic owie kit, I am a very strong proponent for at least 1st responder FA training. If one is going to run around in the woods, Wilderness First Aid is a must. Watched your video as I do many others on the subject and found yours to be REALLY refreshing (though I had to wait until 7-1/2 minutes in) for you to suggest the necessity for first aid training. KUDOS for that. Though my training has been both field trauma (EMT and DMAT) and acute care (with lots of wound care) in a hospital, I never had a day go by where I didn't learn something new. Your video today has had numerous tidbits that have added to my store of knowledge. Bravo Zulu on a practical video that appears to have roots in practical experience.
Too damned many yahoos "out there" who want to play make-believe-soldier and gear up without a clue how to use their equipment. Be safe, be well, else the cooties gonna get ya.

Although I have taken stop the bleed courses, I would be interested in watching you run through it. Even if it was a condensed version showing wound packing and answering common questions like do I pack a wound with the bullet still in etc...great job and thanks again!!

    20 quality minutes, @
    Bear Independent. Thanks for this.
One correction--the gray packed HyFin you demo has the triple-channel cuts in them which makes the patch a one-way valve you shouldn't need to burp. If I recall, the white pack version is the solid type that you need to manually release pressure from.

Gotta be one of your best, informative, reliable and easy to follow vids I've seen. I can't thank you enough. I'm med prepared but not even close to much of what you schooled me on. Hey, I'm in upstate NY and wish I could connect with a group up here. Although I'd feel more confident in your presence in Oklahoma. I'd come on down in a heartbeat or faster when tshtf. I've texted you a few times throughout the last 2/3 yrs and miss the utubn. But this works. Which type of med kit would you recommend. I'll need suitures, turnakit, hemostas. Spelling is bad, intentions are good. Tx man. Shalom

My buddy is a former Army Medic... We discussed the various methods of releasing the TQ to save the limb... In my Stop The Bleed Course he instructor stated TQs have bwen left on for 16 hours and still kept the limb.... Also, according to older methods was to release every 15minutes(No reccomended due to disrupting the clot) instead my Army Medic Buddy said that it's 2minute release/ 4hours of TQ time. Which seems ok considering clotting time is beyond 2-3hours by that time.

    • @ronaldrobertson2332
      @ronaldrobertson2332 2 роки тому

He said not to release them! That's usually done by higher trained medical professionals in a hospital setting where they're equipped to handle that.

  • @niwy1838

The newest addition to mine is "WoundClot Soluble"... It doesn't require irrigation or removal of impregnated gauze or granules after the clot has formed. Im trained in Trauma Wound Care and the class was 80minutes of fear mongering with 9/11, Boston Bombing, Pulse Nightclub type propaganda and going over Dr. knowitall's credentials with the last 15-20 minutes of actual demo and instruction. Im glad it was free for the course. Id rather take the TCCC course.

Overall pleasantly surprised by the quality of the video.
Two additions, a way to document and sharpies. A TCCC card is a simple way to document injuries and vitals for higher echelons of care. If your of the preparedness mindset, vital signs get really important to trend as you hold onto your patient. Sharpies… you just need to be able to write on the card or tape.

    Great information!
I highly suggest looking into the use of a natural, and very cheap blood clotting alternative. Cayenne pepper. I know many people, including myself, who have used this and it works VERY quickly to stop blood flow. Most often in less than a minute. Store it in a pill bottle, film canister, whatever. YES ... it stings like crazy ... but it works! It can also be used (though I have not tried this myself) to stop a heart attack!
I have friends who have jobs where they are always cutting themselves and would need to get stitches (in the past). But then they tried my suggestion of the cayenne pepper powder. They now keep a container of it in their toolboxes and on their person and have never needed stitches, and have rarely needed a pressure bandage since.
This is just my suggestion! Do your own research. Next time you cut yourself, try it. Have a better day! Eat and buy!

If so then the Ifaks with molle webbing on them is what I'm after since it would allow me to carry compass pouches which can hold band-aids, drugs, and other minor medical stuff which is used routinely whenever I go into the field.

@@fancypantsstungrenades9221 Hey, I don't want to raise h#ll with this, so I apologize, but when someone calls out another because of how they "appear" that is just BS. He honestly tells anyone who asks, that he was NOT military. He is trying tell help people on many levels while trying to make a living. His character is very transparent. If comes off as "military" to some, that is there opinion. He is what he is, but he doesn't ever pretend to be who he isn't. We (I assume) Patriots need to stick together and not nitpick each other to death. Again, I apologize for any comebacks on my part, and I will drop this topic. I now nothing about you, so I will not assume anything. God bless brother.
