To be fair, a "ceasefire" does not mean that the war ends. It just denotes a pause in the active fighting. The whole point of a ceasefire is to freeze the situation in place, so that the negotiations are less messy, but until a formal peace agreement is signed, the war is technically still on, and can resume at any time if one or both sides walk out. As an example, North and South Korea are still at war, and regularly shell each other with artillery, though they usually choose some sparsely populated target.
