Hey buddy! What a great loss that would be... Every time you released a video I had Herhaim in my mind apart from memorizing your entire collection in general. You're not the only one, it happened to me this year too, those black spots that are caused by a damn fungus and that has probably resided on the maple for a long time. I have lost a Bi Hoo, a Shishigashira bonsai and two years ago an Osakazuki. Also this year I had the worst infestation of aphids, it must be climate change. I hope the rest of your collection continues well, mine seems to be going ok for now. I’m waiting the next video/s with your collection.
Hey Man! Honestly I have to say that THIS tree I can live without. It would be much harder for me if I would lose one of my older trees. I also have the feeling that Herhaim mutated to a broom after I pruned it the first time but I don't think Herhaim should grow like a broom. Well, you will see soon that my balcony is still completely full with my other trees and a lot of them also got bigger pots this year. I your last video all your trees look very healthy! Can't wait to see the Red Nails in my parents garden. I am excited how my trees will do as I switched to another lighter soil now. I think my old rhododendron soil was too heavy and dense and so the drainage was too bad. Aphids I did not have so many this year but also the birds found and decimated more. Let's hope for a good season for our maples!
@@Acerdorer Hello. That's right, an older tree hurts more but Herhaim had very good seasons and thanks to your advertising we know more about it. I understand that in this season your terrace is going to look very good since you have more developed specimens, I'm waiting for that first video now that you release later this year. On soil I use a mixture of 4 soils designed by me according to the knowledge acquired and it works wonderfully with all the maples since not all of them are so acidic but you always have to consider whatever it is convenient to make your own recipes. I need to see Red Nails in your parents' garden finally! Just know that you would be the second to publish it 😄 but it is very interesting maple in full sun and good luck with it. I'm glad you purchased it. Sure we will have good season this year!
I´m not an expert but I lost 2 maples this spring and talked to the person that I purchase maples from. He recommend to put the trees in a shade and not water it for some time until recovery. I will try that now with mine. I would cut of the infected areas and hope the tree to recover itself with time. I´m not an expert. I wish and hope for this beautiful tree to recover! 🥰
Thanks for the info. Unf. my tree is already dead and gone. The desease spread pretty quickly. There was no chance to save the tree. I also believe that most issues come from the soil resp. from constantly too wet roots and root rot. I reconsidered the drainage in my pots and always cut some additional holes. And I am testing a new lighter soil with more compost now. At Nielsen nursery they also recommended to add clay granulate to the soil.
Hello and thank you very much! Honestly I also know Herhaim only from Hachmann nursery here in Germany. So I am not sure if this is a cultivar that you can find in the UK, sorry. Even Mr.Maple in the US does not list it and they have a huge number of different varieties.
Dear Acerdorer I have the same problem with my maple tree. Even if I cut off the infected branches. The other branches will also infected soon. So I lost a lot of beautiful maple trees.
It's a pity, yes! Do you also prune your maples in early spring before they leaf out? I ask myself if this might be the main reason. My Herhaim I pruned strongly before. Maybe fungus entered afterwards. I also did not see a chance to cut more to save the tree.
@@Acerdorer I didn’t prune in early spring before the leaf out. So it’s probably not infected through pruning. But I'm not sure if there's something wrong with the soil. I used Akadama + Peat. Has not been replaced for several years.
You should try using perlite (20-30%) in your compost for aeration and draining. I find it helps to prevent overly soggy compost.
So sorry for spelling Herhaim wrongly in my first message!!!!😮

Hi Acerdorer, as a japanese maple lover I love your videos on UA-cam and would love to buy a hermain japanese maple.

But living in the UK I'm finding a Herhaim difficult to find.
