'We're being gaslighted by the county': Growing frustrations in Manatee flooding dispute

- There are growing frustrations ahead of Tuesday's Manatee County Commission meeting, three weeks after Hurricane Debby drenched the Tampa Bay area.
That falls back on the county and the developers who created the dam and the retention ponds
People forget that most States up the east coast and even Quebec had flooding issues from Debby. Its just the NY Karen's in the Sarasota area that whine the loudest. I live in Clearwater and a few places flooded here despite getting half the rain Sarasota did. Either suck it up or go back to NY because hurricane season is just getting started.
Those NY trump supporter Karen’s 😂
Umm - they just got 12 or more inches of rain in that county from hurricane Debbie . You all live in a hurricane flood zone ! They’re just pissed off because they didn’t have flood insurance. They want to blame the county. Hurricane season is still ramping up - never underestimate Mother Nature.
No one in Florida can afford flood insurance. They were not told they were in a flood zone. This should not have happened to their homes and when it did no one came to help them.
Those dopes who live on the barrier islands got immediate help last year from desantis to build a bridge. Maybe with hurricanes they shouldn't live on barrier islands anymore. But they have alot of money and donate to the "right" places so help came for them. Middle class guys? Nah, they suck. They have to deal with it.
You are not being gaslighted, you were sold out!!!
The county released about 3' of water before the rains came. Areas got up to 15" of rain. Water at the dam had to be released again to ensure the dam doesn't fail. Debbie was offshore heading north. What Sarasota/Manatee got was outer rains bands that was packing a lot of rain. Be fully covered. What flooding didn't happen 20+ years ago no longer applies. That dam always releases water when needed. 🤷
Look at what happened in Miami before Debbie. That wasn't even a Tropical Storm.
Miami floods during high tide. It's called climate change and the people Floridians voted in literally scrubbed it from State documents. What happens in Miami vs what happened here has no correlation.
They forgot that they live in Florida. Welcome to hurricane season when its your turn to get hit. Starting to sound like the whiners over in Houston.
The whole state of Florida is in a Flood zone.
Not my house!
@@thebubbacontinuum2645 just wait for it bruh
We're being gaslighted WOW why not just say your concerns are being ignored.
Triggered much?
@@Hollybrews3Right back at ya.
@@Hollybrews3 I am not sure what your talking about but thanks for the reply
It's because of the drainpipe the County installed for 5 new subdivisions which caused this one to flood. They could have bilged on Mon after the storm but waited until Thur. which ruined everything. De Santis and the $48 million left over from donations for Ian were nowhere to be found...
The developer is well connected. Sorry for your loss, but people enter local politics to push through land development deals that would otherwise be denied or require massive overhaul to our infrastructure.
All Republicans
Manatee County residents need chest waders to get through the crap of lies. The county & state has failed you so find an yourself an engineering firm to investigate the dam disaster then find a great lawyer because the county will without a doubt try to say they are immune from lawsuits but any decent judge will toss the immunity and hold the county and state accountable for damages when the engineering firm finds Manatee County Council & State are directly responsible & accountable.
maybe blame God who allowed 15 inches of rain in one day to happen
We need to take a stand against this nonsense
Residents pay CDD through their mortgages which pays for continous improvement on the drainage systems as the area grows.
Not all residents pay CDD fees.
That’s not what the CDD fee funds. The CDD fee is to finance the development costs. Tax free bonds are sold by the county and the funds are used to provide the roads and other improvement. The developer then passes the debt, which is owed to the county which puts it on the individual homeowners. The builder then tricks the buyers to purchase the debt along with the house and the mortgage company escrows for the debt which is paid annually with the property taxes. The whole CDD is a scam. It’s sorta like buying the new home and having the builder charge you again for the wood and concrete used to give you the finished product.
If the dam isnt about flood control, what measure has the county taken to orevent flooding when thr dam releases mass amounts of water?
I think it may be time to raise the insurance rates there in florida.
When you see roundabouts going up on every corner, you KNOW that someone is getting PAID KICKBACKS downtown.
Sarasota is on the take and Manatee is just as shady.
@@gasmith7486 or they're trying to help with traffic and grid locks?
Only yankees say "roundabout." It's a traffic circle.
Graft is pervasive in many counties. Heck pinelllas County officials gave each other 250k bonuses for hooking a new baseball field.
The county approved all the development around that neighborhood in Lakewood Ranch. All those neighborhoods built around it caused the flooding.
Has anyone noticed the level of community upkeep has gone to zero? They used to cut the grass on county property every three months, keep the canals cleaned! I haven't had that done in manatee where i live since before hurricane Ian,they do nothing anymore but all the fees and services have gone up!! They dont mind taking our money but do nothing! I think we might need to start voting people out since they can't do their jobs🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬
They live in a flood zone, consider that before you buy. Make sure developers considered that when yhe planned and built.
We life on a flat piece of land jetting out into the water. It’s all flood zone. The maps LIE.
Same county that approved building hundreds of homes right up against two racetracks. Check their financials.
If I'm not mistaken it is written in the deed or somewhere that people who buy or move there have no recourse for noise complaints.
Tough to sympathize with those who didn’t have flood insurance. Going bare without insurance is a risk, and when you take a risk sometimes you lose the bet. They got the benefit of not having to pay flood insurance premiums and this is the trade off. The entire state is a flood zone practically speaking, regardless of what the maps say.
It’s clear newer neighboring developments were built at higher elevations and it turned Laurel Meadows into a retention pond.
This also creates a flood zone areas where Flood insurance will be needed
If you live south of Lake Manatee you should not be having problems from the lake, the problem is all the building of new houses in areas that used to be low lying areas a.k.a. wetland and now the water has nowhere to go. If you want to sue the county you have to sue them about all the over building has nothing to do with that lake, the lake is really high on the southside And all the canals and creeks that will be affected by the lake openings are on the Palmetto side
Where are the state officials. ? Is there a state department that inspects rain water flows? Floods donot stop at county lines.
Desantis fired them he don’t care about you !
Debbie was a Tropical Storm when it flooded Sarasota, later as it went up the coast became a hurricane.
It was the Lakewood ranch developer. I'll never live in a POS neighborhood like that
You built in lowland Florida flood plains….no shit it gets wet and floods.
Typical government
Typical republican government
Ask James Boyd, FL Representative, NOW Senator, while ALSO selling homeowners insurance; Flood Insurance. Did any of his people explain coverage?? 0:07
OK, there was some shitty things going on with developments around the flooded area but at the same time climate change and you are in Florida comes to play. Hurricane Ian last year prove that most of Florida is a flood zone.
It's Lake Wood
You all voted for these people, congrats Manatee county 😂
Those people got 100% of the vote? Weird, I didn't hear about that. Have some empathy douchebag.
Why didn't the government stop the rain?
This reminds me of Katrina. People drowned because they were afraid they wouldn't be home when their welfare checks were delivered.
Bro that’s crazy
They complain because they don’t have the money to deal with this. If they did, they would fix the problem or move. But it just shows you that these people are not in a position to own a home. They shouldn’t be there to begin with.
Water doesn't flow up hill.
Ok follow me on this - where the water from the neighborhood used to drain to could not drain there because water from the damn filled that spot. There for the water from the damn did not flood your home, your water just did not have any place to go. So, their water did not flood your community.
The county didn’t force them to buy those homes
@@kenguterrz3210 some of them have lived there for over 20 years and this has never happened before
@Hollybrews3 Even Fema maps are designed for a 100 year storm. Most people don't live long enough to see that let alone a 300 yr storm.
@@Hollybrews3There are no guarantees in life. If there were, we’d all be millionaires singing kumbaya.
@@whiskeysprings and if they were millionaires help would've arrived 3 weeks ago.
lol, I’m a Republican who lives in a swamp and I demand that the government bail me out…do it now! We are a group of Karen’s without any skill other than cooking…but we know better than the engineers…
Someone inform them that they live in Florida. Where in hell is the water going to go when yer almost at sea level or below.
what doesn't spill you makes you longer
Wah, wah, wah
It flooded the same before the Dam. Sheesh
Keep voting for republican and this will keep happening, it's all about the money
Weak....

Every area of Florida is a flood zone
Not really
@@richardmesser1091it is
That's what happens when you move to a flood zone.
😂😂😂😂
Lakewood ranch is very republican and rich, im not feeling bad for them at all. 😅 they got lifted F350s that cost $87,000…..they’ll be alright
In these high flood areas why aren’t the homes built up on stilts like in some beach areas. Any home can be built that way. The ground and yard may flood but the house will be okay.
Can spot a liberal, by the lack of definitions
Manatee is blood red
Are they developers??? No? The Manatee County isn’t going to listen.
Ask Trump and De Santis to help you they’re so wonderful 🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️🤷🏽♀️

They didn't force Jill to buy in a flood zone. Play stupid games, win stupid prizes.
Learn how to read a fema FIRM map. The are readily available on line and definitely zone X can flood. A small chance but it is there.
haha is this your first encounter with gaslighting?
Let the finger pointing begin…isn’t it possible that climate change just dumped so much water on your neighborhood that this is the culprit you’ve been looking for?
DeSantis has moved on to more important things, he's taking away your choice to buy cultured meat alternatives. His Subjects in Florida don't get a say DeSantis makes those decisions for them.
Yes good we should be eating real meat by real farmers
dessantis is a piece of crap goner who made Florida worse than ever. I have been here 40 years and never seen flooding this bad, devepeloment is the issues. you can't build on cow pasture lands. that's the problem. the county is allowing that to happen. Florida will be under water to eventually.
