- Holiday for Trombones from the album "David Rose in HI-FIddles "
Composer: David Rose
Performer: David Rose And His Orchestra
Label: MGM Records E3481 - Track B1
Recorded: 1957
My Freshman Year in High School 1975, our Symphonic Band also played this beautiful piece...I never forgot it, (or ever will in my lifetime) as I remember it took the Trombone Section awhile (about a day or two tops) to really get a hold of that "Triple Tounging" that made this song a true Masterpiece! I've always loved this song, 2024 to the day.
I had the pleasure/torture of playing this piece with 3 other 'bonists in high school. How we all got from beginning to end without injury from the triple tonguing required will always be miraculous to me.
Thanks to David rose.
Wonderful song
A quartet of trombonists, including myself, played this with the entire band minus strings. We were in front of a large audience in the auditorium. It's a very difficult piece & the first & I hope last time I have to triple tongue. Anything.
WONDERFUL!!!!!!!!!! thanks for the post!!!!.
Tommy Dorsey was a fantastic Melody player on that MONSTER of an instrument “the slide trombone”
i prefer holiday for strings 55 because it reminds me of old czechoslovakian composers and cartoons, however this can too tell a good story.
muy buena melodía, para seguir escuchando todo el día...
Holy Cow!!! The theme to the short-lived syndicated game show "Fast Draw" hosted by Johnny Gilbert.
Pretty piece.....yet it was clearly an answer to Leroy Anderson's "Bugler's Holiday"!
or to "Holiday for Strings",from himself.
Indeed. I can tell someone "I'm listening to David Rose's 'Holiday for Trombones'", and when he tries to correct me, I can reply that I am indeed listening instead to this lesser-known piece of his.
What the hell happened to wonderful music like this ????. Answer. ?. We havent got the composers any more.
He recycled this minus the trombone & with strings for a segment of Little House On The Prairie, as musical director.
👍🏽💯😊
