Thank you for all the kind comments and messages on my first video! It meant a lot and I really appreciated it. Here's some of what I've been up to this past week! Be sure to follow me on social media (all links are in the description box)! Let me know if you're still enjoying them & thumbs up for the next one
Can I ask, did you also do your masters? Or did you go straight into a PhD. If yes what did you study for your masters? I'm thinking whether it would be a good idea to do my masters or just do a PhD after I graduate.
Yes I did do a Masters in Research (MRes) in Neuroscience and Cancer Research. It depends, some PhD programmes require you to have a Master's before applying, and others don't. So check to see if you need it. In the UK you don't NEED a Master's but in most other countries, you do.
I've just found your channel, and it's absolutely fascinating! (especially as a current BSc but aspiring future PhD student - albeit for physics) I'm looking forward to watching more of your vlogs 😊 x
I get that all the time "how can you do science and believe in god * The more i learn about science the more i am astonish by God power And congratulation with finishing with the lab work
I know! It's such a nonsensical argument. The more I learn about human biology, the more it astounds me how intricately we have been created and the depth of the human mind. Thanks!!
I live in Salem MA and I study Biotechnology in Boston. The scientific stuff that you're talking about are things I do in the lab . Thanks Dr. Amina, I think you're very smart and I wish I can be a friend and learn from your experience in science.
I’m only at A-Level but I know the struggle of repeating experiments (obviously not in the same capacity). We had to repeat three quarters of our AS labs because we had issues with the results or the equipment. It’s so frustrating
Yaay! I'm so glad that you're considering it, do it! You won't regret it (well, sometimes you will haha) but it's one of the most challenging experiences in your life.
Dear god, the lab is so cleaaannnn :D And you have so many stuff for yourself. Wish I had such room to do my PhD :D. Awesome to see other people starting to do PhD vlogs as well. Mine are on development of nanotechnology for studying brain diseases!
Amazing! I have subbed. And ha, I share the area with quite a few other people but the others study more BioPhysics related topics and don't do as much work on the bench.
You're such an inspiration. You've motivated and inspired me in so many ways. Just wondering what did you study in KCL? And what is your educational background like? Keep up the amazing work. Wish you the absolute best!
Hey I really like your videos giving an insight into what it's like to do a PhD :) I am considering doing one after my masters but I'm struggling with the applications and selling myself as the best candidate (applied for 3 so far and didn't get them) Do you have any tips on applications particularly for the top universities in London please
Hey! Thank you, means a lot! It's definitely NOT easy to try to sell yourself. I would say the following: 1. Be very specific as to what it is you want to do/are interested in - vague isn't good 2. Give a sentence or two explaining why you have chosen that uni and why that lab 3. At the end, explain why you want to do a PhD, would you like to continue in research, or is it a means to something else 4. Give lots of details about what experience you have in that field, so if you have done a Master's, explain what impact you had in finding the results and why that led you to want to do a PhD 5. Try to find other examples of where you have been independent in working towards something. Remember that a supervisor is looking for someone to be very independent and not someone who requires too much hand holding Hope that helps!
I had hopes to go onto education post-undergraduate, and your channel makes me feel hopeful. Wishing you the best from the states, and cannot wait to watch you progress in your doctorate degree! -M P.S. Unrelated, but: oh my goodness you are so incredibly fashionable. You talked about uniqlo, but can I ask where you get your coats/jackets?
Hey Amina, when did you started university? I have read in comments that you're 25 and finishing PhD :O In Austria we start university at age 19, boys 20 and we usually get master at that age :)
Hey! Yes, I'm 25, and yes I know for the rest of the world it is very young. In the UK we start university at 18 and finish at 21. Then a Master's is 1 year till 22. And then a PhD is three-four years, so when I graduate completely I will be 26!
Haha, that's so cool. My bachelor degree is 3 years but only small percentage of people finish it in 6 semester, usually they take few more + master is 2 years. I'm going to be so old :(
You honestly inspire me SO much. I'm going to look into Arabic classes in NYC. Can you make a video on how to start praying and/or how you began? What life changes you experienced? InshAllah my aim this next two months is to start praying.
I really enjoy watching your channel. I am starting my PhD in Luxembourg also about cancer. I am from Indonesia, my mom is a moslem too but I'm a catholic. So if you are interested in visiting Luxembourg, I would love to meet u and guide u around (:

Aw thank you, wow. Such nice words to hear. I did Biochem at KCL. My educational background is mostly in Biology. Thanks for watching!
