      I've only played the physical boardgame. My favourite thing to do is to buff my mates to get insane damage and curse the enemies, so that thay draw 9 curses in the last game we played ;)

    Love the class. Lots of fun.
    A bit hard to get used to at first and learning HOW to play her. But when you find your groove she really shines.
    Fun, fairly strong and versatile. Definitely recommend for those that want to try something different.

    Played the Voidwarden in Jaws - my first experience with Gloomhaven games. She felt versatile and strong.
    Still, some loss cards are a bit on the weaker side or didn't need to be a loss at all... After playing Gloom on higher difficulties I'm glad I played her first and had fun!

    • @MandatoryQuest

      I like that her losses are situational and offer utility sometimes, but yeah on the weaker side compared to others. It helps that she has a large hand size for sure.

    Honestly, I focus this character as a crowd control and enemy abuser and she shines. Maybe a heal or two here and there, but mostly it is about burning those enemy controls at the right time. I get items that return cards to my hand and allow for extra cards in a turn. Also, controlling your teammates to give extra attacks too. Love this character.

    Grasp of Doom seems like a beautiful card for a mindthief’s ally. You set up for a nice strong Perverse Edge top or Dark Frenzy Top if you don’t feel like burning Perverse Edge

    Great guide as usual! One enchantment I can also recommend is to put a Curse on Crushing Cold (Lv 2) for 100 g. This is especially nice if you play a build that needs the frost element because you get a lot of bonus utility.

    So, I was playing Gloomhaven digital earlier, after waiting a few months to play again, waiting for most of the bugs to be fixed, and I noticed something interesting: If you have the Voidwwarden and the Beast Tyrant on the same team, and you use Master influence, all the attack commands that the Tyrant uses on the Bear gain the bonuses from Master influence... I'm not sure if it's a bug(likely, considering the current state of the game) but it is a VERY interesting synergy between the two XD Have you noticed this interaction before?

    I picked different cards at certain levels. Regardless, i find the character extremely strong. The toolkit is so flexible, you are always able to pull some fancy tricks regardless of the situation. The most potent character in Jaws.
    I play her and hatchet while my pal handle redguard and demo. I think Voidwarden deals the most damage per mission with all the attack she grants. This plus the CC capabilities...

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  2 роки тому +1

      Her only downside I think is a very consistent but not exciting attack modifier deck. This Caps her crazy single turn resigned frenzy potential a bit which would be fun. I don't think she can compete on damage with a high level demo in full swing in most scenarios, but occasionally she will have a more favourable scenario. I totally agree though that she's the most versatile Jaws character though and does a lot of lifting in any party she's in.

    This is the character I played in our JOTL playtrhoug. We were 4 players. But we didn't play on Deathly difficulty
    She was awesome ! At the start I wasnt sure, at the end of the game, when I saw the other 3 classes progress, I was clear to me that she was the best choice for me.
    I still think the Redguard is the best character, but the more fun for me is the Voidwarden
    I rely a lot on Master's influence tricks to get me going and participate to the damage effort
    I kept using Black Boon bottom with Wicked Scratch top, usually to set my Demo into place and make her attack with her miraculous AMD!
    Begining at level 2, when my Ice generation was more easy, I often use the combo Resigned Frenzy bottom and Freeze the Soul top for a really good move 3, attack 2, attack 4+Poison+Muddle and 2 XPs
    I took Commanding Presence on level 3, tough choice with the bottom of Taunting fate and its 13 Initiative as the other choice was very tempting.
    But Master's Influence trigger each time on Commanding Presence, so it's attack 2 with advantage, again with our good friend the Demo, it easily become attack 4, 5 if we have an element lying around
    Stand Fast was a strong addition to my built, giving me a attack action on the same round I played Master's Influence. But I understand why you droped MI
    A thing on Lull into Oblivion top, if you play it very late in the round the downside won't happen as the enemies will be stun the next round but that card won't be in play anymore.
    However it's sad to lose that 11 initiative.
    As for Items, Robes of Command did a lot of damage overall, especially coupled with Master's Influence. The Black Candle is alse very good for JOTL.
    As of all, a very fun character that can be played differently

    Few thoughts!
    I took the exact same level up cards as you, except for Crushing Cold over Give and Take (for reasons below). You mention ice generation on Crushing Cold, but it is mostly worthless. The only card you would want it on would be Spirit Hunger bottom, and it's just fine without. Technically Possessed By Fate bottom as well, but we all know we are only playing that for the top anyway. Since I mainly play in GM, I'll probably respec back to Give and Take just for the initiative since Crushing Cold has been so underwhelming :/
    Speaking of which, that card is fairly strong, but I don't love that you have to play Hawk Helm just to make it playable TBH. The level 9 card choices were the first time in Gloomhaven I've actually felt robbed. I agree with you that level 9 cards should be fun and powerful. Look at Long Con and Blind Destruction. These cards are on the OP side, and yet, the Crag and Scoundrel are still just mediocre classes overall- it doesn't break them. Possessed by Fate is a level 4 Plagueherald card disguised as a level 9 card, AND even then requires a head slot to be comparable. Sigh.
    Also agree with you that all the Master Influence shenanigans feel a bit weak. They feel tuned down a few notches from actually being fun/playable/powerful/interesting. What if Master Influence just gave advantage to all mind-controlled attacks? Seems fine to me.
    Surge of Power seems like a bit of a design miss as well. We already have two cards that poison and strengthen ourselves or allies, this loss doesn't really help us do that any better. AND its best synergy is with Spread the Plague on Plagueherald, which is and has always been *bugged* to high hell in digital.
    On the positive side, I do think that Lull into Oblivion is the best designed card in the whole set. A blast to play and strategize around. (or not play realizing that I've already wounded the whole room :/)
    Protective Charm is cute as a head slot, but doesn't work with cards like Give and Take that poison self or allies for a positive effect. Apparently someone has to actually get poisoned for the buffs to go through.
    I use Ring of Restoration AND Scroll of Healing on all mah healing chars. Gotta make heal number go up!
    Secret item tech is Heart of the Betrayer for the Master Influence build :) You're welcome. Finally found a use for it!
    Hope you enjoyed my wall of text, sir.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  2 роки тому

      That would be a bug on protective charm if that's the case as there was a ruling a while back (on a bolt card) where Isaac changed the rules. Obviously only works on self targeting poisons but yeah. I'm not sure if that one made it into the full FAQ.
      Fully agree with the master influence build actually being just so so. It has its moments but it's underwhelming compared to most damage builds.

    house rule suggestion for your voidwarden party: ignore the "may" part on your cards regarding allies, you are playing a mind controlling mage that sits back, makes others to her dirty work, poisons and damages allies ... wouldn't really seem fitting to ask for consent
    so in Harbinger voice from Mass Effect 2 : "ASSUMING DIRECT CONTROL"

    You are not allowed to poison a target who is immune to poison, so "Proetctive charm" is not a great option. Also not 100% sure, but Taunting fate bottom would work only on one of the attacks granted by Resigned frenzy. Also does anyone have a source for "you can poison already posoned targets" cause I've seen it in multiple places but links to like posts by Issac or similar.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  11 місяців тому

      If you are immune to poison it wouldn't prevent the effect from triggering if the effect required applying poison., and yes you can 'reapply' poison to an already poisoned target also. The best example I can remember of this effect is Lightning Bolts card Careless Charge relating to needing to apply wound that was walked back. The original ruling was that if you couldn't apply the condition then you cant activate it, however that was changed later by Isaac in a post on BGG I think. I guess it was a bid to make immunity better but also resolve the double stacking of negative conditions question redundant.

    Playing losses on an 11 card class is absolutely worth it, especially if they increase tempo of the scenario. Level 6 Withering Conviction top is an amazing top loss with a non-loss spammable bottom. Really fantastic card and shouldn't be overlooked imo

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  2 роки тому +1

      I've been playing Withering Conviction on the Sunday streams and have found it to be solid. The top is a fine finisher I've found, but surprisingly hard to line up sometimes with relevant targets. Bottom is great and a good action when you don't need to move. The problem is you burn Master Influence so you are at 10 pretty much immediately and then you have a lot of situationally great top burn attacks. I really wish there was just 1 more reusable grant attack action like Wicked Scratch top or Stand Fast bottom. The initiative if you go hard on the more attacking Master Influence build sucks too.

Because I’m so Excited to build Towards master influence with a Berserker. Hopefully my To help make up for some of the healing she’s not gonna be doing and the berserker can make up for the damage drop off from having two supports.

      The reason why 4P is often considered "best" is that you can pretty much get away with any composition as long as you have a plan of attack. Sounds like you have a good one there, and master influence makes you a pseudo attacker anyway.

    Great guide but one side note, I think VoidWarden is a he actually I think and also a question . for the party of voidwarden, Berserker, and Sunkeeper, which character would be best to fill last spot. Availables are Brute,Craigheart,Mindthief,Demolitionish, SpellWeaver, RedGuard,Scoundrel, Tinkerer,Hatchet and Quartermaster, trying to understand with whom would be best synergy. Party level is around 3-4. That is prosperity is 4 byt characters most here re around level 3 except Craigheart with level 5. Also regarding turn out the lights card, would possible strategy of choosing an enemy to attack other enemy who has retaliate work? It looks like first enemy would get damage both from his own attack hit-back and also get damage from retaliate of his target.

    • @MandatoryQuest
      @MandatoryQuest  Рік тому +3

      I think technically Voidwarden (and every character) is whatever you wish it to be, but If you read the JOTL comics they are referred to as she. It is of course down to you to decide what your Voidwarden is though. I would advise a ranged damaged dealer for your 4th, and out of those, Spellweaver synergies the most by both creating and using elements in common with all 3 of those mercs. Mindthief can be fun though with Voidwarden and Sun for the gifted attacks with The Minds Weakness.
      Yes retaliate or any other passive or round based attack effects will trigger on forced attacks including those on enemies.
