You and me both mate. I'm quite an emotional guy anyway. But me and my son cried the night we found out he'd died. Mark also replied to a private message I sent him on twitter a few months before he died. Great guy. Great singer.
Great story in his autobiography about how that whistling at the beginning of the song came about. It was from a whistling cookie jar shaped like a hobo that was in the studio, and J. Masis dared him to put it on the record. I love all of his solo output and most of the collaborations, but those first two albums are special to me. RIP. Damn.
The whistling hobo with the wind coming thru the alley. I just got done with the book. The darkness was unable to put down, and anyone having similar issues, will be able to feel the pain and torment. I found myself holding my breath thru much of the related pain.
I’ve only just got into Mark Lanegan and Screaming Trees, after reading his absolutely brilliant Autobiography Sing Backwards and Weep.Brilliant book and fantastic records.I especially like Marks solo stuff. This been my favourite album.Better late than never.Thankyou Mark for brilliant music.May God Rest Your Soul 😎🎸😎
I came across Mark this year and proceeded to watch every interview with him I could find. I really like the Seattle bands, I am a big Nirvana buff and had always heard of Screaming Trees but just never got to them. After watching his interviews and listening to his stories I had a real sense of Mark being the the epitome of the essence of this scene - for better or worse. I decided to listen to this album and I am so grateful and happy that I did. This song can make me cry. All of my crying songs sort of lost their power the more I murdered them and I had honestly been searching for one for ages. The catharsis is so relaxing, so human. I love this song - the honesty in his voice is incredible. His assessment of his own ability is also exactly what I am after - born to make music, but still at the whim of music as well. No ego, just honesty in the moment, connected to his consciousness, nothing else. It is as true as true gets. In a world full of fakes the authenticity he conveys through his art possibly the most precious human/personal commodity there is. Thank you so much Mark. You are now one of my most cherished musicians.
Life is strange sometimes... I happened to be listening to Mark for several hours every day for the last week or so.. Go to listen again tonight and see that he has passed. Rest in peace...
That's kinda trippy, you've been spending quite amount of time listening to his music shortly before his death. Like a synchronicity type thing perhaps? 🤔
So sad to hear of his passing one the most passionate voices of the last few decades….. Watch some of his interviews and realize what a awesome human he was. I saw him at some show in Chicago and didn’t realize it was him until I heard his voice, I was really blessed to see some of the best artists in my lifetime, Nirvana Sound garden Pearl Jam Rush Janes Addiction Chili 🌶 Pixies 🧚♂️ and more… Peter Gabriel Genesis Afghan Whigs and many other I have been blessed! RIP Mark!
63 thousand views? Scandalous! This guy is an absolute legend. And if you haven't read his book 'Sing Backwards and Weep', or even better, listened to it. You're really missing out! He does the audio for the book in his own outstanding voice. Such honesty in it.
I only ever saw him with the Gutter Twins at Lollapalooza a long time ago. I'm blessed to at least have that. I can't express the impact he's made on me.
I know this was used in a documentary at the point in which Kurt Cobain died. However, it's such a moving song. It really needs to be put into a good movie. At the emotional climax.
Track 20 of Hype ! The Motion Picture Soundtrack , and the documentary itself Hype registered the Heyday of the Grunge Years, I'm grateful to have experienced it. No other scene othar the punk scene can match the excitement from the 90's music , Not even the Beatles years is as powerful as the 90's Music Scene !

He was like a wine. While many musicians of his generation lost their creative power, he continued to develop artistically. What an incredible loss...
A true original, feel like I've lost a friend.

I like the idea of him seeing Layne again, I really recommend his audio book biography to everyone.
I read the page where he got the call about Layne’s passing online, but realizing it was the final page of his biography makes it hit a bit harder now
This song helps me deal with all of my emotions
This is one of the most mesmerizing moments of inspiration that human beings have translated into sound.

@@waffledoesagacha4971 There was a pretty good movie called Rivers Edge. Kind of a dark, gritty crime drama. It was Keanu Reeve's first starring role.

Oh, the river rise
And it's a mile high
Is this worth tryin'
Is this worth tryin'
'Cause I could fall
Like a tear
Well, there's nothing else I can do
When I'm not alone
Nothing's beside me
What one eye sees
The other's blind in
Well, I could fall
As if I was young
With a lifetime to think of you
Fire one for losing
And two for hiding
Keep river moving
Movin' right by me
I could fall
And there's nothin' else I can do
Ah, the river rise
And it's a mile high
Has this world turned
Has this world tried
'Cause I could fall
Like a tear
Well, there's nothin' else I can do
Up on the river rise
She's a mile high
RIP

Goodbye Sir
Every time you say Kurt murdered you take away from the man's giant suffering art and soul. Stop
Stop talking bollocks. His soul died along with him. His art will remain forever. Regardless of any words spoken or written.
