I was there that night, Lesley Gore, Chuck Berry, Mary Wilson Everly Bros, Bo Diddley and Jerry Lee Lewis all did a great job. BUT Col Joye came through with flying colors. Was not expecting much from him, but was very impressed indeed.
RIP Larry Muhoberac (Keyboards) and John Frohlich (Backing Vocals-clean shaven) both featured in this band and both buried, coincidently, on December 16th 2016.
Who wouldn't love Col Joye. I met him in the dressing room of the old Stadium in Sydney when he was opening the show for Ricky (Traveling Man) Nelson in 1960. That's a long time to love somebody, hey? We've met up over the years in Australia and the U.S. and my skin still gets warm when I see him or hear his voice. Yep!!!
I found out about Col from reading the history of guitar player Tommy Emmanuel, whose family used to tour with Col. Col has a really nice voice, and does a good job with the fifties music. Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi!
1959/ maybe 8 Col JOYE & THE JOYBOYS I used to watch on BLACK & WHITE TV in Sydney Australia ...it was an old ADMIRAL TV , with a record player under the tele.. !
Great tribute from Australia's' own Col Joy . He was a very nice guy who also happened yo have a really nice voice . I think he was brave tackling "Only The Lonely " but boy what a good job he did . That is not an easy song to sing .
I've never met him but everyone does say he's a lovely chap, erm, rocker, ;) And yes the great Ricky Nelson, who'll ever forget... thank you for that, :)
Wow , I just love listening to Col , I bet you don't remember me looking after you when you came into ED at Recliffe Hospital after an incident on a boat out on the bay. ( made my day) Love listening to your music , I have all your CDs. xo
Hmmmmmm, one that slipped through the cracks... my apologies. Yes, legend Tommy and his brother Phil. Funnily enough i had the great good fortune of meeting both some years back, and that's interesting they toured with Col. Someone seriously ought to write a book about those memorable days on the road, and "Aussie aussie aussie, oi oi oi!" sounds familiar too, nudge wink. Thank you !! :)

After many, many years of deliberately ignoring Col, I have reached a point where I realise that I was wrong about him. He was the real deal.

Ah.....twas a great night
Why didn't he start with Australia's greatest rock n roll legend, Johnny O'keefe? Strange that.
JOHNNY O'Keefe died in 1978.
Here he is doing J O'K at the same concert. ua-cam.com/video/_WXm5De9kps/v-deo.html

Now did this man write all these songs he's singing ?
No. They are all songs from original American Rockers from the '50s - Elvis, Buddy Holly, Roy Orbison, and Bill Haley.
