Hey guys sorry for the wrong info this retrofit works directly on all 6 cylinder cars from 1998 and newer cable throttle or electric. In 4 Cylinder cars it works only if it has electric throttle (2001 and newer), cable throttle ones will need additional parts to make it work if anyone knows what those parts are feel free to post that as a separate comment or a response to this one.

Thanks.Yes i have not confirmed it but it might not work on cars before 2000 the ones with cable throttle.Actually if i remember correctly reading in the PDF i found online when i was looking for instructions some diesel engine models had the 58pin ecu plug in that case you need to put your blue cable on pin 37 of that plug if you have the 40pin plug it should go to pin 27 so something else might be off. But as i don't have a diesel car i cant neither confirm nor deny how this works on a diesel. I was planning on doing this on my 1998 e46 sedan and see what do you need to get the Cruise Control working on a pre 2000 car so maybe a solution will come up there. I was planning on doing that on May or June as i don't have garage space ATM.
Hey i did some digging recently and found out that the pinning for a diesel if completely different. The kit comes with a small brown and a black wire those have to be used on a diesel for it to work properly as no-one in my circle of friends or acquaintances does not have a e46 diesel i have not made a video for it but if the opportunity comes across i will make one.

Hi yea good question and sorry for not answering sooner i had a few relatives over for vacation. So the answer to that is very simple there should be 3 plugs inside the steering wheel and the multifunction buttton harness is connected to the only plug that fits. after you instal the retrofit wiring you need to make an update with softwer ? or you instal the retrofit wiring and it's done ? ( i we got an e46 compact n46 2004)
Yes you just need to do the wiring and nothing else! The ECU already knows how to do the stuff. And sorry for not responding UA-cam doesent notify me for some reason of new comments appear
re-check the wires you spliced into. as they are wires in the light control module you are splicing into. That sound you have the wrong wires, one other commenter had connected them the wrong way and had all sorts of warning light and stuff stopped working. As for the CC not working you might want to check if you have connected it to the right plug and pin. And if you bought the BMW retrofit kit the 2 wires you t-off of should be the same color as the wires you are splicing.

Hey i'm not 100% sure but it should work. Because most of e46's have a electric motor on the side of the throttle-body even if the gas pedal is connected via cable to the throttle-body. i recently did this same retrofit to my 1998 e46 323i (it has cable driven throttlebody with a actuator on the side from factory). You can be most certain if you disassemble the intake until you see your throttle body check if there is a electric actuator looking thing on the side. Or you can go to www.realoem.com input your cars vin and check what throttle-body your car has.

@@Bakibaga Nice upgrade! If you changed the ECU and all the parts of the 2.8 it should work no problem. Because every ECU is ready for the Cruise Control if it still does not work you might want to check the throttle body assembly it should look somethin like this (ozsgarage.com/product/bmw-e46-323i-328i-e39-528i-e36-z3-throttle-body-assembly-1-433-414-h-blue-label/) the cable on the other side for the pedal and electric motor on the other side for the Cruise Control. If you have checked all of those and the wiring and pins. There's nothing much i can help across the internet might want to pop in a local BMW shop maybe they can help.

Yea if the radio buttons are not working the issue is with the wires you connect to the light control module. make sure they are connected properly. And they might not work if you have a aftermarket radio. if that is the case you need a can-bus decoder for the brand of radio head-unit you are using.

Yes it should but not necessarily with the same kit depending on the age of your e39 it is either a separate "motor" that controls the cable to the throttle body or e-gas like in the 2001 and later e46 cars. I'm not sure how it is in the diesels but should be possible! After retrofiting an android head unit (looks pretty much the same as in your car I think) in my E46 I've been listening to a lot more music and started to wonder if I could swap out my current 4 spoke steering wheel for one that has the MFC buttons (and cruise control would be a bonus) so that I can easily change the volume, skip tracks etc. You mentioned that you purchased your wiring kit on ebay so I did a quick search and I was hoping you may be able to help me out by confirming that this was the right kit (www.ebay.com/itm/BMW-3-Series-E46-GENUINE-Wiring-Kit-Harness-Cable-Set-Cruise-Control-Retrofit/263561018823?epid=2081373715&hash=item3d5d75fdc7:g:M7kAAOSwC~1bCfP1)? Hi No problem glad you found it usefull. And no this will work either if you have a 3 spoke or 4 spoke steering wheel because the wiring from the steering colum is apsolutely the same it might be different inside the steering wheel. The kit in the link looks like the one i bought. I had the steering wheel lying around so thats why i didn't comment on its price but if you have a 3 spoke already the trim piece with the buttons you can fins as low as 30€ and if you are lucky you can find a full 3 spoke steering wheel at about 100€ or atleast i found that is in decent quality. You usually have to buy the airbag separately and is around 50€ It seems i have to make another video or edit this to include the steering wheel part and not have it as a separate video. The schmiedman link doesn't work for me. But from what i can understand fron ytour description i think it should work too. My indicators stoped workin and high beam indicator on cluster stil sound commands work but cc dont any tips
re-check the wires you spliced into. as they are wires in the light control module you are splicing into. That sound you have the wrong wires, one other commenter had connected them the wrong way and had all sorts of warning light and stuff stopped working. As for the CC not working you might want to check if you have connected it to the right plug and pin. And if you bought the BMW retrofit kit the 2 wires you t-off of should be the same color as the wires you are splicing.

the place to look for the issue is to check if you connected the wire to the engine control unit to the right plug and pin.
Now the cruise contro lights up on the panel but still doesn’t work

This is gasoline e46 ?
Yes this is a gasoline e46 but this wont work in 316i or 318i models only 320i and up.

Oh yea i forgot to say that if you have a android headunit the unit should have a canbus decoder if you want your steering wheel buttons to work as they do with the regular radio.

Does it works for n42b20 engine?
Im not 100% sure but according to the pdf that shows the wiring diagram the pins are exactly the same in the n42 engines.
