Someone in my zone 🙏🏻😭 I’m so new to gardening, I’m also in zone 3, I’m so glad I can get tips from this channel now 😊 (also yea, it is still zone 3. They just wanna scare people).
Yay, happy you found me :) It can be tricky with our colder climate but still so much we can grow. And sometimes we really have to bend those "rules" to make things work but they do work! And I totally agree with your last statement ;)
That’s still a ways off. We have had some light frosts here in early June but I’m usually safe to plant my tomatoes and peppers by the end of May. Happy you found me too :)
Wow I'm in Southern B.C. by the border and I'm in zone 6. My last frost date is May long weekend. It's still getting cold here. In fact I lost my dahlias last night.
So sorry you lost your dahlias. We are still single digits overnight but slowly creeping higher. I find because we are farther north and the days are longer (right now we are getting 16hrs of daylight) we don't get as long of a night so even as things cool down it's only for a short time. Hopefully things warm up for you soon!
I am in zone 3 west of Edmonton Alberta. You have put in a lot of seeds. Hoping for warmer weather we hit a balmy 3 degrees this morning. Staining nettles are amazing crop.
I'm hoping for warmer weather too. It looks like it's slowly creeping upwards. Although my cool weather crops are loving it, I might actually get a good harvest of spinach before it bolts this year :)
Things are coming along nicely. Are those boyne raspberries or wild - I had some boyne and they are great but needed to be planted in the middle of a 1/4 section ! I am finding that the herbs don't like to overwinter well in my raised beds and last winter I lost all the everbearing strawberries. May have to rethink that for this year when I plant new. I just seen today that my lavender is coming back again - 2nd year - hopefully it gets a bit bigger this year. Don't worry about your tomatillo's - they will be fine as they are very resilient - be sure to put them in a tomato cage though - mine were worse than that last year and produced like crazy.
Thank you, it always amazes me at how quickly the garden starts to fill in :) They are the wild raspberries and they live up to their name too, lol. I have a hard time overwintering anything in a raised bed except for onions. Sorry you lost all your strawberries. Mine in the ground have done really well, the variety is Seascape. I have a hard time with lavender, it's one of my favourites so I won't give up on it. Do you know what variety you have? So far I have only tried Munstead. Thank you for the encouragement with the tomatillos, I'm looking forward to trying them this summer!
@@FiveCanadianAcres Oh that would explain it with the raspberries. It happens - mine were seascape as well. My June berries are coming back in the middle though. The lavander is mustead. I am going to be putting more of it plus rosemary into pots this year to bring in come fall. If you like green tomatoes, you will like - I just finished off a jar of fermented tomatillo salsa I made in the fall - so good. Tomatillo chili sauce is quite yummy! Did that letter get there??
@@dhansonranch That sounds yummy : ) Yes I just got the letter (I am bad for checking mail, lol). Thank you so much, will be planting them hopefully next week!
I am west of Red Deer..the night temps have been cold here too and the wind!!! I have had the heater on in the greenhouse. Do you keep any tomatoes and peppers in your greenhouse all summer?
I haven't before but I may this year. Last year I left my loofah's in the greenhouse and I got one so it was a success. I was thinking putting some of my hot peppers in pots, I should leave some in the greenhouse to see how they grow. I just have to remember to water them more regularly :)
@@FiveCanadianAcres Can you build a raised bed in front of the window that will double as a table in early spring - Your shelves could sit on it rather than the floor...that way you could plant directly into it for some of these crops you wish to grow in there.
Nice 🎉

@@FiveCanadianAcres haha love it. I’m excited to learn with your help 🙏🏻 (also yeah 100% lol )
I’m glad I found you. I’m in Edmonton and trying to learn everything for my small garden.
Hi I'm in Leduc and I'm so excited to have found you
I'm in Leduc . Happy Gardening!
I’m in a zone 3 as well but our “official” last frost date is June 10th. Happy to have stumbled across your channel.

@@FiveCanadianAcres we are getting a good soak of rain in Spruce right now. Good luck this season.
@@lauraheal4107 We got some good rain here too, I am by Alberta Beach. Thank you, good luck to you as well :)

Ever heard of FAVA beans? I came across some and getting exited to grow some
I haven't grown them before but I picked some up at my local seed swap this spring to try this year :)
Love Fava Beans AKA Windsor Broad Beans!!! Grow them every year.
Have you tried borlotti beans? They are super yummy too.
@@terrafirma75 I grow quite a few varieties of dried beans but have not tried them as of yet.
Borlottii beans no🤔 tried a few varieties of typical pole beans and actually was recommended trying Scarlet runner beans for the flowers!

@@dhansonranch That's a great idea, then I can use it all year. It's a great spot for those heat loving plants!
