If there's a pokémon out there, no matter how hated or forgotten, then it will be made into a Rivals character.
This is the law. It must be this way.
I think it's a matter of time before every 'mon is in the game, but I'm not expecting less popular pokemon like jynx or aromatisse anytime soon.

The GBA-like segments just make me want normal versions of the characters to exist with fully fleshed-out movesets
The thing with SSL is that it's much faster to make a character that way, like to an insane degree. it cuts down the average dev time from over a month to just a couple days at worst, so a lot of people make them as a fun side project.
there's a chance we might see some of them make it in the future though, who knows?

I did think that there was a lot of good stuff released this month, but I never thought that the resulting video would be 13 minutes long. We've been spoiled as of late.
Samus and Zeke are my favourite new characters released this month.
Honestly seeing your videos alone and showcasing all the potential that workshop for ROA really has has filled me with absolute inspiration and joy. Also seeing Wart in this highlight reel, my current WS main, made me really happy to see.
I'm really happy to finally join this community and it's server, and I hope I can contribute with something truly special along with all of these amazing projects!
I'd love to see you do a Rival Rundown on the E.M.M.I.. It looks really cool.
Can we talk about the fact that someone manages to make a Xenoblade 2 Driver and Blade pair actually work in platformer game unlike in Smash?
We need Ditto as a character that just copies the other character to 100%

Holy Cow, this was a damn good month
the tetris stage is genuinely the best stage in the game to date IMO for casual play. I think it finds a very nice balance in interfering with the flow of a match but without going overboard like a lot of smash bros stages do.

That feeling when you finally upload your last 2 characters for workshop and they don't even make it into the highlights:
(I mean I get my 2 Fast 4 Gnomz character was a bit gimmicky but the Phineas and Ferb Across the 2nd Dimension fighter is probably my biggest project yet. Was it rejected for the Perry Alt not being finished yet? Or are you trying to make sure the characters on your list are generally competitive-viable?)

Yeah, being snubbed sucks, but keep in mind that “best” is subjective. There’s no set in stone criteria for what does and doesn’t get highlighted, but imo that keeps it interesting. And yeah, there was a lot of strong competition this month; that’s good for the game as a whole. I and many others always do more research when deciding which mods to download, and I’ll be sure to look at yours. I have felt unjustly snubbed in the past too, but why would I blame Zetta for that when I could instead focus that energy into creating more mods? You already seem to know what areas need to be worked on, which is the hardest part when it comes to improving on your work. Don’t get discouraged!!!

First off, to be clear I'm not blaming Zetta, nor do I have anything against them. they by all means have the right to choose what mods go in their collection, it's all subjective. It's not too big a deal to me, but the difference between being in a zetta collection and not being in one is the difference between being able to play your character online and not being able to, since the majority of people online tend to download zetta's collections. But, for that same reason, zetta obviously has the responsibility to vet all the mods in their collections, which i understand.
So yeah, I absolutely respect Zetta's decision, I'm just kind of giving my little two cents worth.. my "comment" on it.

Actually when I say things like "gimmicky" and "not competitively viable", that's just things I like to make. No mod I ever make wouldn't have those things apply, since I just really like making extremely weird characters. For example, Egghead, Egghead is by all means my Magnum Opus, my best work, my work that truly shows what I want most in a fighting game character. And that means Egghead doesn't have like, a single attack that's traditional. Every single attack is gimmicky, just the way I like it. from projectiles that command grab to drawing solid lines to spawning in falling anvils. Playing Egghead is by far the most fun I've ever had in a fighting game in my life, it's just so chaotic and exciting to play for me. Every game. every attack, feels extremely unique, and I just really love that style. It's not remotely good at killing opponents, hell half the attacks will kill yourself, but it's still just my favorite way to play. Egghead is a big part of why I'm retiring, every character I've made since Egghead just hasn't felt remotely as good.

"creating more mods"
Like I said, I'm retiring. I just need to cut off hobbies now that I'm graduated. I mean I don't have time to - run a youtube series all by myself, - compose music for that youtube series all by myself, - program a game for an indie company that wants me to make them a sequel to their old game all by myself, - put together and program and write my undertale fangame all by myself, - work on my fan-made pokemon regions designs all by myself, - work on rivals mods all by myself, etc. So I've cut off a few of those, one of those being Rivals Mods. Also being in the Extended Workshop discord has been far too stressful for me (not saying that that's anyone's fault, it's just a very... critical community.)
I just take not having my stuff included in as a sign that the mod isn't quite at the standards that it should be. The last thing I uploaded was in March and a week later, whoops, I designed the moves badly and didn't put any shading on the character. Unsurprisingly given that knowledge the character was excluded from March's highlights, even though that was only about three minutes long.
People's opinions are always going to come into the picture and people will naturally have their own biases towards certain franchises and creators, but I think mod popularity is always going to play a part and that comes from presentation and polish. That being said, I am all for a variety of mods getting their chance to shine, for every Zeke and Pandoria, Wally, Samus and Naruto there's tons of stuff out there that isn't well known and not very popular. Just know that someone out there likes your stuff, you just might not have had contact with them.
I was gonna comment why Phineas & Ferb Interloper nor their stage wasn’t mentioned in the highlight (but like a gazillion SSL characters were, nothing really against the SSL characters though and I’ve heard they’re easier to create). Glad I’m not the only person noticing that.

So the Game Boy segment- is that the GB Smash fangame also made by the Rivals of Aether creator? If so, I was not aware that was moddable!
a few of us (myself included actually!) got together and recreated Super Smash Land's gameplay in Rivals! It's still part of Rivals itself, but with the one button gameplay of SSL!
