Nice work man - Those brake lines look great!
Thanks! Lets hope they don't leak lol
I was thinking the same thing as Michael (below). The smaller tool allows you to make tighter radius bends which comes in handy in tight places and when you have to make two bends in different directions close together. Another great video, Steve
Agreed. I just tried working with what I had on hand. The socket worked out well, not bad for improvisation!
That bender is a little oversized for that size tubing, but the Cunifer tubing is very forgiving. I just bend it by hand.
My 69 used 3/8”-24 fittings with bubble flare. I bought an adapter that allowed me to use a double flare brake line.
Yeah that is the standard OEM route. What I used should work without issue.
It's a bit overkill, but I used to put a piece of rubber hose around the brake pipes where they went through holes in the chassis side rails.
I never used to have a brake pipe bending tool, I used to use a beer bottle to good effect!
Ha! Good tip!!
If it helps for a temp bulkhead to mount the masters to, a brake flex hose fits in the masters threads.
nice idea!
You might want to add a piece of shrink tubing on that folding tab.
Good call! I will do that. Thanks!
Great video Steve. What do you figure the total approximate time to do those brake lines? Of course it's quicker with the body off. I'm just curious what a shop would charge to do that. The going rate pre-pandemic was $100 an hour shop time. I don't know the going hourly rate now, $150 I'm guessing.
I spent maybe 3 hours fumbling around doing it. I took my time, but I’m sure an experienced mechanic could do it in an hour.
Thanks for the video! But I'm curious. I've heard you say many times you haven't ever done this type of work. Where do you find your confidence?! I have done this work many many years ago and I don't have the confidence you do! LOL 🙃
Ha! Confidence…. I ask myself if it’s confidence or just stupidity. I guess having this be a spare car helps, but we also have an incredible support community that has always come through for me to help figure stuff out.
@@StevesProjectCarGarage I agree! The community is great! I feel I've taken my car apart and put it back together a dozen times in my head just by reading everyone's questions and answers, LOL! I re did my seats and cut the foam myself from a 6" thick by 9 feet long piece. It came out so so. I don't recommend it. Get the real seats unless you're really good at that stuff. I clearly am not. Looking forward to more videos!
Lisle pronouced Ly-el, rhymes with crocodile. You can make an acceptable bubbleflare with most flaring tools,
🤞I think there's something off with the angle of the dangle on the right side flex hose.
Already fixed. Thank you!
Those little metal tabs are supposed to have plasti-rubber sleeves on them
Im thinking about using some shrink tubing over them.
NiCo brake line? Never heard that term before, I know it as Cupro-Nickle or Kunifer, but it sounds like the same stuff. I do not believe that brake line should ever be made of mild steel or for that matter, should the brake hoses be made of rubber, because rubber is permeable and allows water into the brake fluid, also they are prone to collapse inside. I am a proponent of Goodridge style stainless steel braided nylon hoses.
Yep! They are nickel and with a copper coating. It’s a new standard apparently.
@StevesProjectCarGarage coating? Kunifer is an alloy, they sell it in autozone
