Are you kidding me!!! This man, in 2010, had just turned 64! He battled leukemia and survived, and then, he still continued to sing beautifully! He is one of the great tenors of our generation, yet I can't get the 52 dislikes!!! At 64 he sang a very difficult aria, in the ordinal key, with a clear voice and a fabulous vibrato! He knows what he is doing. He is a great tenor!!!
Whether it is playback or not, it is his voice, and since his performance earnings go toward his foundation fighting leukemia, I do not feel cheated in the least. His contributions to opera and to philanthropy have my respect, and his voice and stage presence have my heart.
I agree. People need to be more respectful of a person's trajectory in a profession. If he need to do playback, it was obviously for health-related reasons. But it is still his wonderful voice. Pavarotti had to playback, too, at a large event with thousands of people, at the inauguration of some olympic games. He had a cold, I think, but he wanted to continue the show instead of cancelling. Nothing wrong with that.
I agree. I do think it's a playback but since the earnings go towards charity, I don't mind. I cannot tolerate those pop singers earn millions with cheating though.
Beautiful.Touches the soul.Such feeling. From the singer to the composer Puccini.Tosca has the power to bring peace if only everyone would listen to it.Thankyou John.
Brutal.
He is amazing beloved tenor, and his talent does not need our ratings here. Nonetheless, I cannot help but comment that I absolutely adore his singing. Young or old, he is superb.
Uh, Mr. Lee, I am a Korean so I understand what you wrote. And I respect your comment completely, but you seem to forget one thing. This is a man who overcame one tenth of survival, and still sang with a most beautiful voice. That was not nice of you to write as him being the least of the three in taking care of himself. I think the effects of his battle with leukemia are catching up with him very rapidly. Chemotherapy, etc. He is the youngest of the three, but looks older than Placido, IMO. And as for this clip. Whether it is playback or not, my respect for this man is still great. But I think he should rest now. He has done more than enough to let us know what true music is, and what we should appreciate. Yes, to the man who was one of the three, ( oh how I miss Luciano ), I say, bravo, Jose. Your beautiful voice will inspire, along with Luciano and Placido, for generations.
Well, I'm positively suprised! Yes, he sings with a mike, but understandably so for such an exquisite and seasoned tenor. The colour of the voice is almost unchanged, it hasn't even lost its lush texture and warm tones. Well done.
Gracias
I heard Carreras ten years in Gothenburg. He was great as always. There was a bit of a strain on some of the top notes. Never mind, he was still great. I'm staggered today, seeing this video above, made ten years later, to hear such gorgeous fresh volume and not least a perfect top note in this difficult aria. Bravo José . You shouldn't worry about the destructive armchair critics.
@BroadwayG Sorry friend, this is a hoax lip-synch, the whole thing. It is from the 1976 Colin Davis conducted Tosca, Carreras hasn't sounded like this since the 80's. The reason there even is a Baritone is because it is a lip synch, otherwise there would never be a sacristian in a concert. There is no need for him. The orchestra is not playing.
52 dislikes show how little they know about singing Puccini arias. Jose's performance is technically and emotionally brilliant and at 64 99.9 % of tenors would like to be 50% as good enjoy him while we can
@TheYoungTenor100 I grew up with Carreras, love the man, that is 1976 Tosca recording conducted by Colin Davis, Carreras hasn't sounded like that since the 70's. And if you watch him alot you can see, expecially now, the type of strain he shows in his body when he is actually singing.
No seamos tan tikis mikis!
This may well have been him singing.........at a much younger age. .....the quality of the voice has not been evident...even with the 1990 Three Tenors concerts......have a listen
Well I have had the chance to watch him live without any microphones at the Royal Opera House Muscat 6 days ago. He has sung this song. It wasn't the original key most probably. But it sounded PERFECT!!! Music should be more about the emotions than the pitch or high notes... He is still a great singer...

I also love him but 53 dislikes are for the playback.
Unfortunately the disease has greatly weakened him.
You are right about that dreadful disease, but the "love" is there! That is what makes him special!!!
His vibrato was already slower after his illness, which makes this obvious to be a playback...you should know that much..lol..
Because he's making a playback genius.
You are right on target. Jose' is an astonishing talent into his senior years, with still gorgeous range and control. Amazing!!

It can’t be true How he can sing this perfect in harmony. Literally Recondita Armonia!
You say it like you haven't heard Franco Corelli's version.
@@darkerkh2125 haha thank you for recommendation. I will listen that version.

Cool!)
He is the best singer ever about Recondita armonia
It is the first Romania in the opera Tosca (1900) by Giacomo Puccini.
Well, I'm amazed. He is far better here than when he sang together with Domingo and Pavarotti! Great! Or playback? Watch and listen to 0:28 to 0:30.
Bravooooo
Be still, my beating heart!! What can I say, they just don't make them like this anymore...

I think Jose is still in great shape, he has become more handsome with age, and his voice much more beautiful, stronger quality.
We love you
Best spinto tenor in History!

Who says this was lip syncing? I sing this aria myself and thought it sounded great. But if it was syncing, Id'like some proof please...
Buy the 1975 Davis recording of Tosca - that's all the proof you need.
